Need a good mecha series

So I finally have some free time and was wondering about what's a good mecha series?

I have enjoyed all the Macross series and a few of the Gundams. I enjoy a good plot with a few twists and turns.

Thank you in advance.

Code Geass is a pretty popular Mecha series right now, the second (most likely final) season just finished airing about a month or two ago too, so no waiting for eps to come out like with a currently airing series (of which I think there is one atm, but not sure)

Gun X Sword.
It will be the most epic mecha you will ever see. It is totally different from all other mecha's, including Code Geass. The story is also genius and amazing, one that one would not expect from a mecha anime. I would highly recommend this anime to anyone, even people that dislike mecha series'. Also the animation and music is beautiful.

Gasaraki comes to mind, if you're into more serious fare. Very nice series.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is also very good, IMHO.

Also, the Patlabor series and movies have some very nice moments.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It's unbeleivably amazing. It starts of kinda slow but then just gets INSANELY EPIC near the end.

Code Geass and Gurren-Lagann are the must watch mechas really...
Full Metal Panic! is a good one
Eureka Seven seems ok to, not as good as the three above though ( ive only seen half of it so far though)
FLCL is a short OAV which is bizzare and involves mechas...

If Gundam 00 isn't one of the gundam series you've watched I'd recommend that. I'll second Patlabor and Full Metal Panic!

Eureka Seven - certainly have the twists you're looking for. A bit slow-paced, but great character and plot development.

Zegapain - twists that would have you going "no way!", but it's slow-paced, so you'll have to be patient for the revelations. Must watch till ep 4 to get a fraction of an idea on what the plot's about. Fairly mysterious and can be a little bit mind-warping.

Scryed - same director as code geass, skip the last 2 episodes though
Vandread - fun filled mecha comedy

Code Geass: CLAMP + mechas = win (p.*)
Full Metal Panic!: 2-3 series of the same name
Gin'iro no Olynssis: robotic insects protect the environment by removing humans by force
Gravion Zwei: a nice list of seiyuu
Infinite Ryvius: the opening resembles the opening of Code Geass R2 a lot
Victory Gundam: 8 year old saves the world (^o^)

Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny, Eureka 7, RahXephon, TTGL, Gun X Sword, Code Geass.

But it really depends on what you like. Even in this genre, for instance, there are people who like big-robot series, which also qualify as mecha but they're different in style.

This is a weird bump and even weirder is adding Gundam SEED and especially Destiny to your good list of mecha anime. Remove SEED and Destiny and your recommendations are perfect for most people.

Anyway to add to everything that's already added to this thread:

Gaogaigar and Gaogaigar FINAL
Top wo Nerae! 1 and 2

Not really a weird bump, I haven't browsed this section of the forum in quite some time.

As for SEED and Destiny, we'll agree to disagree on that.

I do agree with you on Gunbuster (Top wo Nerae!); it slipped my mind.

Gundam SEED is worth a watch, not a great series but worth a watch nonetheless. Destiny on the otherhand is totally worthless.

no one mention neon genesis yet the story is basically twisted and loads of mind rapes

The mother of all gundam series - the original gundam series
