When the twitter voting thing was going on for Carnival Phantasm's dating crisis with Shiki and Shirou, two preview/teaser screens were shown for each choice (date all and date main). For dating the main heroine, Shirou took couple photos with Saber.

Carnival Phantasm was not written by Type Moon or Nasu, though. It's was written by a bunch of obviously-biased Saber fans, and Nasu went along with it because it made money....

Type-Moon okay'd the Take-Moon manga and the Carnival Phantasm anime because of the fans. Type-Moon isn't (all) about the money. Kara no Kyoukai was released on the web, free of charge. Tsukihime was made, in part, to spread the word about Kara no Kyoukai.

That doesn't change the fact that it's horribly biased against Sakura. She shows up in two episodes, and she's massively OOC in both. And not in a remotely positive way, either....

It sounds like just a fun random romp (although I wasn't interested since it seemed like... well, I'm still not even sure what it is). But obviously it's not meant to be taken seriously.

A quick question: from my viewing of the fate/zero (so far), it seems to imply no one has won even once yet in the past wars. Why is that?

With the exception of double KOs, wouldn't someone have won already? (please avoid spoiling end of fate/zero if possible)

Play the Fate/stay night visual novel. You might be able to finish it before Fate/Zero starts.

I don't recall if it was mentioned what happened at the end of the first two Grail Wars. There is some stuff on the Third War that effects the Fouth and Fifth Wars.

The other wars are pretty much shrouded in mystery and lost to history.

I think they give vague reasons for the first two, but do they ever give a reason for the third? I figure it'd be in F/HA if they did, but haven't played that.

Tainting the Grail - was that when the Servants were summoned or after the Grail was filled with the Servants? The Grail tainting is the big spoiler here.

I'm waiting for the TL to finish. Can't wait (or can I... hahaha).

That happened as soon as Avenger was defeated. And since he was summoned by Einzbern, and they apparently lose very early in every war prior to the 4th, he was likely the first or second casualty. I don't see why that would've prevented a winner, since we know there were at least 2 surviving Masters.

Then that would have eliminated the chance of winning since Avenger is the reason there can be no winner, anymore. Or did they not see the result of Avenger til the Fourth War?

I thought all it did was taint it, not make it so there couldn't be a winner. All his presence should have done was make it so villains could be summoned (which wouldn't be seen until the 4th war) and make the final Grail overflow with miasma. Since there were at least two survivors, one of which was a Tohsaka, I assume that if it had gotten to that point that he would've passed down the knowledge that it was tained and evil. Judging by Tokiomi and Rin's actions, that was not the case.

Well, yeah, but they still would've realized what it truly was if it got to that point like in the fourth and fifth wars. Since they didn't pass that knowledge down, odds are they didn't reach that point.

Traditionally there was a long time between the wars because it ended properly, right? 60 years or something.

Thus the short 10 year gap between the fourth and fifth wars would indicate that something went wrong only in the Fourth War.

Spoiler for First and Second Wars:

Remember, the Holy Grail War is not actually a war, but a ritual to revive the Third Magic. As such, the first "Holy Grail War" was not a battle at all, but the merely first failed Heaven's Feel ritual. This was ultimately due to the lack of energy to open the gate to Akasha.

The "Holy Grail War" concept was introduced during the second attempt, when the Three Families had to introduce outsiders into the ritual without them knowing about its true purpose. The second attempt failed when the outsiders were able to see through the flaws in the "rules".

Spoiler for Third War:

The third ritual introduced a supervisor that would enforce the rules of the "Holy Grail War", which was bent by the introduction of the Avenger class. While the Servant Avenger tainted the grail for future battles, the third attempt ultimately failed when the catalyst containing the energy left by departed Servants was broken. This is the reason why the catalysts in future battles would be contained within the homunculi.

Spoiler for End of Fate/Zero:

The fourth try was the closest that the ritual had come to actually concluding properly thus far. Since Kiritsugu destroyed the Grail while it was near completion, there was ample leftover mana for the Greater Grail to perform the summoning fifty years ahead of schedule.

Spoiler for Holy Grail:

The Holy Grail does have the power to grant wishes even after being tainted by Angra Mainyu, but the method used to grant it will always involve some form of death or destruction.

I finally saw Carnival Phantasm. They make Sakura look worse than Shinji, somehow. Interesting take on her though.
