Developing Romance
I'm looking an anime/manga romance/drama in which you can see the romance develop over time. I'd like to stay away from shoujo as it tends to be too unrealistic (though if you know something that fits the bill I'll definite give it a try anyway). The best example I can think of would be Suzuka, where the couple starts out in school and develops from there. Any recommendations are much appreciated.

The best example, IMO, is Maison Ikkoku. This is a very long show, but if you're looking for gradual development of a relationship from initial attraction right to the very end, that's where it's most evident.

Nodame Cantabile. The romance only really develops by the end of the first season, then it shows slight improvement over the next season, and now we are in the final season of the show...
Saiunkoku Monogatari is another good one...it might be a little too "childish" for you, though. Last edited by james0246; 2010-01-19 at 18:56. |

you might like zegapain. It's a little more than just romance but it's a great anime where the guy actually gets with the girl I want him to get with <.<
Very touching show. The mech fights are nowhere NEAR the show's priority, so if you're not into that stuff don't worry because the story is quite good. |

It seems that theowne wouldn't agree with this one, but the best example I can think of is Cross Game. A show where the couple has to literally start from a negative mark, and where the relationship is very subtly, but firmly and steadly developed.

Sigh... I hate to be a broken record and I'm sure the thread is getting sick of it, but I agree that Cross Game fits. No one could possibly argue that the romance evolves too quickly, that's for sure.

I like series where it shows the couple dating and in a relationship. It's good to show the relationship progress.
Bokura ga Ita Mars Kare First Love The Devil Does Exist Happy Hustle High Kare Kano Paradise Kiss High School Debut Fushigi Yuugi Ayashi no Ceres Marmalade Boy Ultra Cute Wild Act show the couples in relationships as well as the development. |

For something more recent, I recommend Bakemonogatari. I think a lot of romance fans overlooked it because its description didn't imply that it was really focused on the development of one-on-one romance, but it really is. It devotes entire episodes to the male and female lead bantering back and forth developing their relationship.
