From what I understand, they are just complex magic used by magi, a whole lot like Conceptual Weapons except they don't necessarily have to be weapons. So to use it you just need to learn the formula/concept behind it and master it, which means any magus can theoretically use it as long as they have the understanding and talent to do it, while with Magic Crests it something unique that can be passed to only one person at a time.

Makes sense. Though I don't think "exterior weapon" when I hear "code", so I'm blaming it on poor naming. |

A Mystic Code is, more or less, the ultimate technique of a magus.
Also, with the Einzberns, Acht just missed meeting Justica, who fought for the Einzberns and ended up losing in the last battle of the first grail war (her last kill was most likely Makiri Zouken's servant). The Third War was the... most messed up war. Two Sabers, for starters, and an Avenger instead of a Beserker. Einzberns also were either the first or second Master out of that war, and not only was the Master killed, the grail itself was damaged, so Acht couldn't have been from that war.

Yeah, but they were upset that they had to let outsiders in. The Einzberns hated it the most, because not only did they have to share with the 3 Families, but 4 outsiders also had a chance. Also, none of the 3 families ever won until the 4th war, which was a victory for the Einzberns, so there was no way there were only 3 contestants in the First Heaven's Feel.

A Mystic Code is only the name for a magical tool, it's not the ultimate work of a magus. It's just that a magus' ultimate work just happens to also be a magical tool.
Also, you can transfer your Crests to people for more mundane means than teaching the family magic to them, it can also improve a person's resistance to magic, although with non-blood related people, the effect quickly fades and you have to literally purge the Crest of all the information before transfer. Moreover, giving people outside the family the Crest doesn't work very well because the body was suited to whatever traits the original family had, so that has a high probability of messing up their innate talents to acclimate. The Einzberns are special given they use artificially created humans whose only purpose are being essentially clones of Justeaze, and the crest is more just a part of the body from the start, so there is no rejection, given homunculi are just walking magic circuits given human form. Ilya was modified in the womb as well, despite being born regularly. Quote:

Well, that clears that up then. Thanks. Though didn't they say in the VN that they modified her more after Kiritsugu "betrayed" them? I guess to make her magical circuits stronger to support Berserker plus the Grail's strain or something?
Too bad she can't live that long. |

I'm pretty sure she can live that long. That she will not or not is a matter of the Grail War. (Fifth War shouldn't have happened until she was like 60 or 70 years old).
