- China, Japan, and Korea had child brides as well before modern times. It was called an Arranged marriage--two friends decide their sons and daughters woudl marry each other, irrespective of choice. It's a common plot device in comedy manga and some dramas.

The more modern parts of India would frown on child marriage (I work with a lot of Hindus who moved to Australia, and they migrated to get away from that 'traditional' BS) but other parts of India would accept it as normal.

Many other countries still do not accept women having rights--and this is one of the aspects that IS could have worked in more creatively. Several threads back I posited that the United Arab Emirates would still be a male-dominated society and that women would be used as soldiers but hold no real power. Others would have a semblance of females being in power but not really being any more than figureheads (side point in my <Ren> fics was that she was not selected as leader of her clan BECAUSE she was female--hypocritical since the previous leader fo the clan was a woman).

Science Fiction doesn't just talk about weapons and adventures, it also should discuss how new technologies change the social norms of the world--or how they DON'T.

Yes indeed. The Arab thing also reminded me about the "Male-only" fad in Vietnam here where I live, where if a child isn't a male, she'll be LITERALLY aborted. Yes, no sarcasm. This might be some sort of a cultural development similarity with the Chinese, considering the fact that we Viets today are still part Chinese due to the butt-raping of our people in the early days.
I'd like to think that in the world of IS, Vietnam would do one of two things:
1- reverse the trend to a "Female-only", leaving the nation in a shortage of male populace.
2- The ones that can EFFECTIVELY wield an IS ending up in a position similar to that of a national superweapon due to the fact that Vietnam doesn't have anything else that could stand up to the annoying faggot of a nation that always want to take it ove *cough*China*cough*.

Speaking of Arpeggio/I.S. crossover, it would be amusing if I.S. were the ONLY weaon capable of beating the Fleet of Fog, not because firepower but quantum thingamajing nature of their weapon means they ignore Fog's invulnerability to conventional weapon.

And even then, I.S. only can beat the smaller, dumb ship such as Fog gunboat. From corvette onward, you will have to commit multiple units and accept casualties just to sink one.

Basically, I.S. would share the same role as fighter-bomber in WWII. Very deadly, and yet the same time easily die against shower of fire.

The costs of an IS will make it unreasonable for most nations to just throw them at the Fleet of Fog. Only ridiculously wealthy nations with no concern for the people and money they throw at the Fleet (UAE, China) will take that tactic, and after they lose a few IS cores it'll be a pain.

More likely they'll try to develop new IS tech for this purpose, or try other tactics, like IS 'softening up' a Fog warship enough for more conventional weapons to break through. Or maybe adopt unconventional tactics like sneakign up to a Fog ship and planting quantum-tech explosive devices to the ship. Or just as crazy: Use the IS to quickly drop a bunch of soldiers on the ship itself and hope the soldiers can destroy the ship and mental model before they all ide.

The WK incident were known as the moment where every person in the world shat brick, when Chifuyu sank seven Fog patrol boat and one Fog carrier* on her own without support.

Unfortunately, I.S. first debut against big ship is... unsatisfactory. Plus, with Tabane mysteriously disappearing, no one know jack shit how to replace lost core. The 457 core is what's left after initial casualties against Fog ship. Afterward, humans went into defense again.

She watched him as he slept, unaware and vulnerable. Someone whom her original employers wanted dead. someone a great many powers in the world would want to recruit or at least take possession of. Orimura Ichika knew nothing of this as he slept soundly, blissfully unaware of the threats to his being. The room that held him was secure, yet the cameras all around knew nothing. A repeat play of the same image of Ichika sleeping, the monitors none the wiser. She would not be here long, but could not help but gloat over how much power she held at that moment. A flick of her wrist, and her IS would create a quantum blade. Cleanly slice Ichika in half without him even feeling it. Just a wet mass of meat and blood for the Academy to scream helplessly over the next day. The temptation was strong, but she decided against it. Orimura still had some value while alive.

With an almost exaggerated gentility, she placed her gift on the bedside table. Ichika's only response was an interrupted snore. A set of programs from Tabane Shinonono herself, to help them fight off the Fleet of Fog. In this world that vaguely resembled her own. This was not her world, this was not the reality she had been born in. And she was not concerned with the Fleet at all.

Only in test results. And only Orimura and his gaggle of girls met the criteria for it.

"You should be thankful." The girl only had a slight smile on her face, but there was a sneer within her whisper. "You know, where I come from? Women would kill for the opportunity to get this close to you. If I were Madoka--the Madoka of MY world? You wouldn't even be breathing now."

Orimura stopped snoring a moment.

"Let's play a game, you and I. Or more accurately, let's play a game with your subconscious."

Turning her head, she then dared to whisper in his ear.

"I'll give you a name that will haunt you for years. It'll be in your waking moments and your night terrors. You'll hear it, sense it. You'll wonder where it came from, who she is. Con: It's lasts 5 minutes.. And can be used once before is has to go throughly its 32 hour cooldown period..
2.Thanks to the lack of weapons its 2nd ability allows it when coming in contact with an Hostile I.S. If he can get his hands on a wepon or a part of the I.S. (Touching it) he can replicate the weapons-- Con: having to come very close to enemy and leaves him very open for deadly attacks from enemy's.


History: The Core Incident
As a kid John was a secrect friend of Tabane Who helped produce the first I.S. ..
"The Core Incident" started when Tabane was making the first core she spent hours trying to come up with a chemical formula for it.. Untill one day Tabane asked for help when moving some heavy equipment. So he helped until one particular box was very heavy and tabane lets some parts in the floor... He stumbled over the parts and fell cutting his wrist. In pain he stood up not realizing he was over the recently produced formula and a Drop of His Blood fell into it causing a violent chemical reaction leaving a sticky liquid that's was Black with white particales swerving in it.(Almost like a mini Galaxy). Due to the recent "incident" this chemical formula was like a mini contained sun able to create new partials and create its own gravity feild(resulting in the I.S. Anti-Gravity technology allowing it to fly.
Many people have been trying to reproduce the core but was missing that one ingredient until they figured out what it is... Meanwhile John was on the run escaping from ravaging company's left and right. The a secrect company succeeded in capturing his and got a good amount of blood removed and John escaped but, not realizing that's they we producing there own I.S. Units that weren't human controlled they called them GOLEMS....

The Generation "X" fanatic
When John visited Tabane at the I.S. Acadamy it was a awkward sight for the others seeing Tabane Coming To hug the mysterious man. And of course by the rules of the academy the needed to have the data from John's I.S. For safety reasons. But, when they tryed to scan its generation it always read out :UNKNOWN for some reason. So the decided to classify it as a Gen 3 model but, then the I.S itself changed adapting to try to be more superior that Hoki's Gen 4 I.S. Therefore the Decided to classify it an Gen "X" or Gen "Unknown" thanks to its quik evolving mechanism. Even thought the I.S goes through multiple shifts to adapt to each weapon it replicates(Example: It replicates Larua's Cannon... The I.S. Changes to be able to support the weapon in combat-- It's PIC (Passive Inverta Conrol) gets stronger to absorb the wepond knock back when firing and well as the Thrusters become more powerful to be able to move efficiently to move around with a very heavy wepon...)

The thing with original characters--or characters in general--is that there's a tough call between common but relateable names (John, Sue, Barry) and names that are unique but tougher to pronounce or remember (Jaipur, Seok-Gu, Panagiotis--yes those are actual names). You have to make a call--in fiction a character's name is part of their personality, background, upbringing. There's nothing wrong in using John as a first name for an original character, but ask yourself, what makes him stand out?

Or is he just another John Doe that's either an author self-insert, a mary sue, or a completely personality-lacking player character?

It's kinda easy actually. You just need to get creative with the names and avoid having your head up your ass.

Hair style: A shorter, black and braidless male version of Shigure Kai Ni.
Is moderately tall and usually ends his sentance with "desu" because of learning Japanese through books.
Personality: Reserved, imaginative with slight autistic traces and often stay quite, but acts like a hybrid of hotblooded mecha pilot and a Magical Girl in battle. Fighting style is melee-oriented with a mix of fire magic and some kendo that is taught by Houki (post-Valkyrie Trace event).

IS: an Over Stratos (aka Super Robot) named Grungust Type 2 (Nishiki)
It's a 2nd gen OS that's somehow weaker than the Gen1 Grungust and Valsion
Is Prana conductive and can transform into a flight mode
It has same speed as a Gen1 IS... aka: slower than snail and require voice command to use any of it's weapon aka: no element of surprise.
Built in weapons:
1-Eye Solid Laser: eye beam. Only useful for anti-missile
2-Boosted Knuckle: the OS's arm detaches and fly at the enemy. May leave the pilot's arm exposed to danger.
3-Maxiblaster: fire a beam of energy from the chest armor, but for some reason require the user to be at near point blank range. Maximum 3 usage if not recharged after each battle
4-Keitou Honooken: normally a golden hilt, but becomes a flaming sword wen activated. Runs of Prana and can tire out the user pretty quickly.

-Special-: Allow the user to manipulate Prana like it was Hamon or some shit, thus enabling some creative attacks, such the Flame Arrow (Hoono no Yaa) or Crimson Lightning (Akai Inazuma) attacks.

History: The invention of true Super Robots (pre-A.S.E)
Nakoto was summoned to La Gias when he was 14, making him one of the younger Masouki Pilot, and provided him with a little bit of piloting experience with IS-like machines, due to the fact that Tabane swiped tech from La Gias to make IS (With Masouki now being power armors instead of giant robots). He was a big fan of Chifuyu when she was still in La Gias, but he only know her through her La Gias name of Wynnda Zan Zenozakis. He was kidnapped by Shu and delivered to Bian, so they can test out the new Grungust model that can channel elemental power of fire.

Say, if you can bring a gun into your robot cockpit, which will you choose? Shotgun is very versatile and might be the best choice, however, I worry about the size and available ammunition. Submachine guns are compact, provide ample firepower, but might be under powered. Maybe a bullpup with subsonic ammunition?

The situation was grim. On the faces of every person in the meeting bore various shades of confusion and weariness.

"I suppose that Tabane-san trusts them enough to supply Golems to them, but not enough to give them direct control." Everyone's eyes in the room focused on Houki, who answered with a shrug. "But what is their connection? What benefit she has in this endeavor?"

"Let's us examine the facts. Tabane Shinonono has always been an enigma. No one can decipher what is her real intention. However, we can presume that this is another link in the chain of events that started with the release of Kurazakura."

"But why? If her intentions is to end the Sahara-Nile War, she could had done that years ago?"

The images on the holograms, as they recognized, were of the United Central Africa Front members. They came from all over the regions, of various classes and religions, and had different political orientations. What could had united them under the same banner?

"It's possible that she had been scouting members and preparing capital for the UCAF during that time."

"And field-testing her weapons?"

"Correct. And we should think about who stand in the center of every accidents."

Tension became so thick that it could had been cut by a knife.

"Are you implying that Ichika may have connection to the current situation?" These word were spitted out by a very bitter Houki. Not her, but everyone felt aggravated and ashamed for the thought to even cross their minds.

"What I say that we should not cross out any possibility."

As others were trying to hold their friend back from summoning Akatsubaki, Charlotte, who had been quiet since the beginning of the meeting, spoke:

"There is something I must tell you. I met Ichika four years ago."

The news came as a hammer. Even Houki had lost all of her fury. Rin then asked in hope:

"Really? Why didn't you say anything to us?"

"Because he asked me to." Charlotte slumped further into her seat. "It happened during the time I stayed with the Legionare."

France got it especially hard to protect its territory, which stretched far away from the mainland. The French Foreign Legionare could only spared one unit for their 2nd Armored Platoon, stationed in Guiana.

"He looked horrible." Charlotte continued in hesitation. "He wasn't the Ichika we knew."

"Then what did he do in Guiana?"

"All he said was: 'I'm here for an old blood.'"

Why nothing ever happen in Africa? The only media that came to mind is Front Mission Alternative.
