I'm so confused... they have alternate romanizations of the same name, make songs for Key games (particularly Clannad), and they sound (to my ear) essentially the same. But they have different wikipedia.jp entries that list different CD releases and do not point to each other.

Am I alone in making this mistake, or is it not a mistake? Links to pictures of each of them, or some other 'hard' disambiguating information, would be appreciated.

You, alone, are mistaken.

Lia doesn't sound one bit like Riya, so I'm not sure where you're getting this idea. It's like comparing Whitney Houston to Tina Turner.

Lia has a strong voice, Riya has a soft cute voice; Lia live is not off key, Riya is.

I never listen to live stuff as I have never heard any that sounded better than studio recordings, but thanks for the identifying traits.

Nope not the same at all. They don't even sound or look the same. Listen to more of their music and you'll see that your ear is wrong.

Nope....Both of them are the different person.....you can tell by hearing their voice....

I've actually made this mistake when I first heard the theme songs from CLANNAD... the artist was listed as "Ria" in the tags, and while they didn't seem all that similar, for a short while I speculated that they were the same anyway.

we got the same thinking i thought also that lia and riya(or ria) is the same person...
why? because of the song "Chiisana Te no Hira(small tiny hands) was sung by Riya from eufonius and the song "TORCH" was sang by LIA has the same voice....
and when i researched the both song that i've mentioned was sang by Lia and sometimes the spelling of Lia becomes RIA and the spelling of Riya also becomes RIA so idk what was the right thing... but i do know 1 thing RIYA(RIA) & LIA is not the same person...

PS: try to listen the SONG carefully... thanks

Although... Lia did have her version of Chiisana Tenohira in one of her collection albums, but they aren't the same voice as you can tell.

Riya have a softer voice... however. Listen to Love song or -Kage Futatsu-. Definitely not the same.
