Wait, you do you have a PS3 fat or slim?
Here's a quote from the PS3 blog from a few hours ago: Quote:
EDIT: And this is supposedly what just about all games suffer on attempting startup: Quote:

There are some fat ones which are unaffected, namely the last few newest models before the slim came along. Seeing as yours is from 2008, it may be one. Although, unless the PSN network is down you should be able to login.
Supposedly, model number CECHL01 and CECHP01 are not affected. You can check your model number on a little sticker on the underside of your PS3. But this info is from people posting on gamefaqs, so it might not be too trustworthy. Also model numbers... CECHA01 CECHE01 CECHG01 CECHH01 CECHK01 ...are all definitely affected. Mine is CHECHG03, a 40GB model.

Yea, yours should be fine. Can you log into PSN?
The error I had when powering my PS3 up was an instant fullscreen error saying "You have been signed out of the Playstation Network. (8001050F0)" before I had even done anything, nevermind trying to load a game. This 8001050F0 error is a clear indication that your system is affected. This should be the case for the vast majority of people who have the auto-sign in option enabled and have their PS3 connected to the internet all the time (I use a WiFi connection). But if you're really unsure, you probably should hold off for 50 more minutes. People are hoping that once this day is over (in GMT time) that all PS3s worldwide should hopefully become operational again. This is the optimistic view at least...

Yes, mine is affected (CECHE01 MG) which is a 80GB model and the last of the backwards compatible models. However, I turned off the network and set the time manually and it kept the time...
So until a update comes, I won't be logging into PSN... if it mattered (also, the firmware is out of date as well).

Yea, yours is 100% fine then.
Also, reports are now coming in (search 'ps3' on google and filter the results by 'latest') that the ApocalyPS3 is over, systems are magically starting to work again even before hitting midnight. It's a miracle? I'm still going to wait the extra 11 minutes before trying.

That was a very strange bug, but it's now back to normal... In contrast, the 30GB Zunes had a leap year bug, but in this case it made the device completely unusable as it frozen compared to the Playstation 3 where most of the functions are functional, except PSN, trophies and restoring data. When it went back to normal, I finally took the opportunity to update the firmware on the Playstation 3.

Meh, lost all my trophy data for Star Ocean: TLH. Normally I'm not a rabid fan of trophies, but they are a fun thing to aim for on the side, and I was in fact close to beating the game at the time the global "crash" occured so I had a good number of trophies accumulated.... :/ I just hope there isn't some error that stops me from getting them again on a second playthrough.

My HDTV is on the opposite side of my house from the computer room and its wireless router, so it has horribly bad connection (25% at best), so I was never able to sync my trophies between when I got SO TLH and the "crash" happened. :/
