Crack theory about the Einherjar: Marian eventually cracks Othinus' control over the undead soldier creation spells using her ability as a Dvergr, turn Kagun into something like a Dead Apostle (from Nasuverse), and the two of them get their happy end. Cause damn, the guy needs more screentime. Not using Kagun anymore might be like leaving Acqua out of the plot after Vol16 in pre-NT LNs.

Mikoto awakening, I'll try and keep out of it but mention 2 things: a) if you want Mikoto to fly, in the one of the Railgun SS Mikoto already had wings (over the ocean anyway), and b) Mikoto can't awaken; her power is electromaster and not 'special'/HAX enough like Kakine and Accelerator's. Volume 15 ch5:

Different from this world, this is 'organic' and 'inorganic' in terms of a different world. The one who wields the power of God and the one who has touched the territory of God. Now the odds of victory are even, only that unlike Accelerator, Kakine has not lost himself.

The very basis of Mikoto's power is of a common/inferior class compared to the heavy hitters (Holy Right, Saint, Valkryie, Archangel, 'unknown' invisible thing', Northern Throne - basically, like 'Divinity' in a sense with many of these powers sharing that theme). Bluntly put, there isn't anything special inside Mikoto to 'awaken'. Mikoto got that far using hard work, but hard work alone ultimately can't match talent in IndexVerse, assuming the more powerful/talented one actually is fighting smart:
1)Spells used by Saints is of a entirely different class to normal magicians (Vol16, Kaori fighting Acqua),
2)The Holy Right crushed the combined power of Roman Catholic Church, power of 2,000 years + home field advantage of Vatican & Rome + faith of two billion followers. (Again, Vol16)
3)Imagine Breaker. Needless to say, there's all the times this trait crushed 'normal', non-'FinalBoss' level spells... (Stiyl + Tatemiya + Agnese + Oriana + Vento... the list goes on)
4) Accelerator effortlessly tanking everything Mikoto had when they first met.

If Mugino was actually as tactic-savvy as say, pros like Tsuchimikado or Etzali, Hamazura would probably have been killed; hence the 'fighting smart' qualifier.

So if Mikoto cannot awaken, she will never get a power upgrade? Does that mean she just has to be more creative in using her Electromaster abilities to stand a chance against increasingly powerful opponents?

Her Electromaster skills so far IIRC:

Megavolt Shock - Mikoto can shock people in the scale of a million volts.
RAILGUN - Fires a projectile in a similar fashion to a real-life railgun, but with rails made of thin air.
Iron Chainsword - She can gather iron from the surrounding area to create an extra-sharp chainsword.
Iron Spider Hands - She can scale through concrete walls Spiderman-style through the iron within these.
Flight - She can apply electrolysis on the water she stands/jumps on to fly out of them. Although, I think it's not just limited to bodies of water.

Can I ask one simple question: Why must Mikoto be the one to fight the increasingly powerful opponents?

Well, because we haven't seen her come on top against a decent opponent nowadays? Probably it's because GREMLIN is too overpowered for her to handle even its weakest member?

Say, who among GREMLIN did she fought and won, anyway?

EDIT: Is it me or those opponents Mikoto defeated in the Railgun manga are just ridiculously easy?

Dunno. It's just too sad she got sidetracked by the plot of the current arc. But I still have faith that she will come back and kick ass Big Damn Heroes style.

Well let's face it in reality the espers in academy city are WEAK LITERALLY compare to the current ubber tier of magicians or trained magicians. Sure some espers are strong but they are still sheltered oujo-sama in a school environment. Some grew strong when they tap into the dark side of the city but that's only pretty few and comparing that to the large number of magicians who trained themselves against the battle of life because using magic is burning out your life. It's literally dangerous then what the students in academy city are doing. The only one in danger are the ones being experimented at and even if the methods of academy city are dangerous in their own with the alteration of brains by drugs and such. Their are people who can heal you back as long as your alive -_-


And okay let's go back to the novel. Its getting "Mikoto why must you be weak" talk again. And to clarify it Mikoto isn't that weak It only happens that some magicians are just plainly dangerous. And in vol 3 of NT I was hoping she can be a fight against Cindrillon but all her lightning bolts rain on her was easily dance/dodge by the dancing princess which got turn into chair

Current arc? does Mikoto even played major role in the main novels? and I say major role not helping taking care of hound dogs or as Touma's help desk asking on how to open an electronic door. Or just fry small fry pmc in the Hawaii invasion arc.

Mikoto got her own spin off and manga and she is currently the most popular or at least among the most popular girls in light novel industry 0_0

touma pointed out that aside from irregulars like Railgun, none of the students would be able to hold their owns against a trained group with guns (volume 13). what more with these crazy level magicians.

if someone like mikoto (who's academy city's 3rd strongest esper already) can't keep up with this guys, you'll be hard pressed to find someone else who can (unless they're kiharas or something).

Come on, this is a series where your normal electric/fire/water powers that would be overpowered in practically any other series would be considered mid-low tier. Superman-like abilities are even mid-tier here (looking at the Saints...). When your Suzumiya Haruhi here would be pretty much mid-tier, you got to wonder what sort of powers it would take to be top-tier...

Kakine
Gunha
Mikoto = Mugino (which is debatable because Mugino is hard headed berserk type even though she has supreme fire power but Mikoto is still so very versatile in her power that she can overcome her)

Rank no 6 is still unknown.

And that's the ranking in power of science side ESPER

Not considering the bad ass normal of the Kihara because they are specialist. Look at Amata and Enshuu for examples. But they are specialist and employ different methods to certainly win so the espers still out class them in power but that's all the students can do.

Some members of skill out like Hamadura and Hanzou are strong just like Kihara. They could fight high level espers despite they are normal. Well first the skill out are part of the dark side of the city and again and again and again..... academy city is an educational establishment.

You guys are forgetting that FACT! they are not war mongers or warriors or trained assassins. They are STUDENT!!!!! darn.

Asking to much of a normal student who enjoys a normal life is too much. Really they are just normal people who happen to have powers which is not normal. But comparing them to magicians which is essentially a part of the dark side of the world.... then you are making a big mistake.

I hate to interrupt but I think that most of you are forgetting that for the most part AC never did much relie on the students for their combat prowess.

Excluding the LVL5's and dark org groups like Item and Group AC's main fighting bulk consists of normals with high tech equipment eg Five Over, HSH, HSF HSB, Alester and his Scripts as well as Fuze=Kazakiri and the I.N. District.

For the most part the students were never a part of the equation.

Look at WW3 for example, excluding the a fore mentioned lvl5's and dark org groups none of the students took part in it.

Actually there's a more important point that needs to be brought up- Why are all of you talking about the normal students of Academy City? Because I cannot for the life of me find the first poster in your current discussion that claims that they should use them

How did Mikoto suddenly become all the students ?
