It did not show that Tsubaki receive any physical injury, but that he only felt it. I'm not sure if feeling is closer than physical, but I'll leave that debate for some other time.

I'm kind of confuse with the direction of this episode. I was not sure if they were trying to make real friends or trying to spice up the yuri action.

Also, why does Urabe also have connections with other people through her drool, if it is so special to one person? As for why Urabe thinks Oka's saliva is sweet, and Oka's response that Urabe has not kissed, none of that made sense at all. How does Oka know that from her test? Is Oka another one of Urabe's kind (besides the obvious fact that they are both female)?

Really? I didn't get any yuri vibes at all. Rather, I am left wondering if Oka has some kind of alterior motive for becoming Urabe's friend, particularly because of what she witnessed. On the other hand, she could simply want to be her friend because she finds Urabe interesting.

Good point, though perhaps, and only perhaps, she learned this through the drool test with Ogata. Otherwise, if she already knew this, then she must have had alterior motives for testing Ogata.

I don't get the impression that there's anything special about Oka in that sense, other than her drool has an affect on Urabe. We don't know if her drool has an affect on anyone else in the same way. Urabe seems to be the conduit through which emotions and experiences pass back and forth with her and certain, select individuals. It's something akin to the premise widely used in anime that only certain individuals, if any, can see the ghost that the MC can see. Sidekick A can see the ghost, but sidekick B cannot. Sidekick A can make a connection with Urabe through drool, but sidekick B cannot.

The episode title trolled me in, which led me to put on those yuri goggles, but it was really limited to some droll exchanges. Will not be surprised if Tsubaki finds himself in a menage-a-trois in his dreams...

But still this episode left me open-mouthed.

I'm not sure that Urabe herself knows the entire breadth of what her saliva can do. She seems to have a lot of assumptions that she's taken for granted as fact (for example, that one and ONLY one person -- Tsubaki -- will have a connection with her), which is why she was so blindsided by Oka's compatibility.

I've read all of the existing 65 chapters of the manga over the weekend since it's more than unlikely that a 12 episode adaption will cover all of the source material anyway. Unfortunately after about chapter 30 the reader starts to suffer the same fate as its young male protagonist: Being trapped in an eternal, almost unchanging cycle with constant feeling of déjà-vu. The story and character development slows down to a snail's pace which is somewhat disappointing given that the early chapters (and anime episodes) had a refreshing tendency to have characters that do not devolve into hand-waving and stuttering but express their feelings openly if a bit shy which is appropriate given their age and experience level. But now the source material is back to the carrot dangling before the reader's eyes type of storytelling which plagues so many other romance series.

I doubt this adaptation's gonna follow the manga closely.

No wonder my eyes rolled reading that seemingly never-ending arc.

If there's a manga thread, we better take it there guys. That's already verging on spoilers. ^^;

By the way, I've read the manga too. That arc got on my nerves because it dragged on for far too long... And showed that, yeah, Tsubaki is an idiot.

You're right, it would be unfair to the anime viewers to expose them to spoilers, both concrete and indicated ones. So I've used my powers of necromancy and revived the respective thread in the manga forum.

Just watched eps 4, and I'm still loving the show. I am really happy with how well they have been able to capture the weirdness of Tsubaki's dreams in the anime; that was one point I was really worried about. They're also doing a good job of pacing things so far. I look forward to seeing how they handle 5.

I think the drool is merely symbolic of the "connection" between Urabe and other people. Certain people click with her, and this is symbolized by the sharing of drool.

If her drool tastes that good, imagine what the other one would taste like?

Two Words: Psycho Serum; Qu'est-ce que c'est.

Would rival Sanae Furukawa Bread with a topping of Akiko Minase trademark jam in terms of potency.

Sanae Furukawa Bread + Akiko Minase Jam = Weapon of Mass Destruction!

I'm ready to die now.

@topic Urabe's drool: The most interesting substance known to mankind. The catch: Only 2 people are affected by it. Three if you include Urabe herself.

It sure does! And, apparently if you're a girl, after only a couple of months panty scissor swordmanship can increase your bust size, as well, as you can see from a comparison of images from episodes 2 and 5:

To be fair, she is in puberty, and these things tend to happen.

Also, requesting a GIF of the scene were Urabe "flashes" Tsubaki, avatar size.

No doubt some growth occurs, but the only thing I know of that would increase a woman's breast size by that much in so little time is mid- to late-term pregnancy. I'm admittedly no expert (being a man), but it looks to me like she's gone from a cup size B to a cup size E or F in no more than three months (if my memory serves me right they met in April and it's now either, I'm guessing, June or July).

Here's another view from episode 1:

It's an animation discrepancy. It's kind of like how Tomonori/Yuki from Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka seems positively flat-chested while in school uniform, yet is SECOND to Seraphim in cup size in civvies.
