The Trapp Family Story (Nippon Animation 1991 / World Masterpiece Theatre)
Hi folks,
Just so you know. I am in the process of "persuading" Live-eviL to pick up The Trapp Family Story. A series from Nippon Animation in 1991. For the uninitiated it's based on the same story that the Sound Of Music was based on and so you'll be able to experience the joy and laughter of seeing Maria and Vonn Trapp children all over again. Of course Maria sings in this version too so expect lot's of nice songs Cheesy So far I have the first DVD(the official Bandai Visual ones not the bootlegs >_>) This will be the first series that I'll be attempting translation on. The Japanese have full Japanese subtitles so it makes it easier for me as my listening skills are still not all that great. Episode 1 is already translated by yours truly and waiting timing/editing/tl check. The OP/ED are well in to typesetting. As I'm writing this I'm about 10 minutes in to translating Episode 2. It's just a bit slow gowing transcribing the subs off the DVD so I can look up words in JWCPE but I'm getting there. Well look forward to it =D -gumbaloom PS I can assure you that this series will not suffer the same fate as 3,000 Leagues as I own the DVD's and I'm doing primary translation =D (big hint to a certain someone to get their ass in gear) |

Thanks, I just watched it, absolutely not knowing what it was, just trusting L-E's people tastes.
And the first thing I have to say is : God, this is hardcore porn. Seriously, I don't know why, there's a very good feeling to it. As I really don't know about the original story either, could you tell us more about it? I guess that would make people want to have a look at it. I mean I could look for info myself but... How and why did you choose it? And congratrulations for your first translation. I think you did good, except on one line I found "weird". (Don't remember where...) Anyways, keep it coming please ^^, because I'll be downloading ep.2. I'm a very influent person in here, so I'll talk people into watching it. of course

Yay for subbing more old anime~ Thanks, L-E.
It's dubbed in my local language, I've watched it several times (coincidently, one of the channels is airing it). Never got bored of it cuz it's sweet and funny. |

I would like to pitch this in too.
This anime was awesome. I watched it in my teen years, and it brought out the child in me, mostly because I grew up with the Sound of Music being my most favorite movie of childhood. Any World Masterpiece Theater animation is worth seeing (and subbing).

For those who want some background, I can't summarise it any better than this post.
http://forum.live-evil.org/index.php....html#msg11675 Be warned you will be reading spoilers. This gives plenty of historical background. However to put it in a nutshell this is based of the same real life story that the Sound of Music was based on. At least from the episodes I've watched the story follows the book very closely. You can order it off Amazon.com (it's called "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Von Trapp. -gumbaloom PS As for the how and why I chose it, I came across it by accident and was like OMG AN ANIME BASED ON THE SAME STORY OF THE SOUND OF MUSIC *_*. So well I bought the first DVD and the rest is history. The fact that it was World Masterpiece Theatre helped immensely. Last edited by gumbaloom; 2006-06-30 at 08:36. |

Thanks, I just watched it. I wouldn't say it's as good as ep.1, but still, it was quite enjoyable.
Then, thanks again for the explanations. I didn't realize "the sound of music" was the english title for "la mélodie du bonheur" in French, which is indeed quite famous, though I never watched it. Plus, by wikiing it, I learnt that this anime was aired in France too, at the time. I should have known better.

Okay here is a fill in the blanks for you folks.
Gum spent several hours ______ Trapp ep.4, and then went all cranky and told us to 'leave him alone' in a slightly different way. He also timed it because the timer _______, didn't want to/have the time to time the script. And the substitute ran away. Then once it was done, he decided it to give to ______ for 1st pass _______ and then to _______ for 2nd-pass ______. Finally, tlynnec will get to _______ the script and then Gum shall encode it and send it to qc. I'm providing you with three of the answers, if you watch Trapp carefully, you should be able to figure out the rest. three of the answers: * edit, guesslating, translation check NOTE: Words can be reused. Good luck! ^^ NOTE: Just to see how much you like our subs. Real name: Tsubasa (Live-eviL staffer)

oooo
Ep 4 is out, sorry for the wait folks but well you should expect that with L-E by now. I've got DVD's 2 and 3 in my possesion so translation should commence presently. I've had a years worth of Japanese classes since last I touched those so hopefully it should be a lot less painful in getting them translation checked -gumbaloom |
