Works for me. Now we get something a little different, and a real battle...so far. I found myself feeling the horror, fear and anger of the townsmen. And the princess's confusion and rising despair. As well as the bandits' rapacious joy.

Good as the whole package was, the thing that most reached me was Taneda Risa as Rory Mercury. Really, Taneda-san is one of the best. She delivered that line about the smell of blood so beautifully, and projected a real spirit in her conversation with Itami on the walls. I like Tomatsu Haruka (the princess) too, but her voice here sounds forced and artificial, I must admit.

Uhhh... So Itami can now understand the locals and speak with them without any significant trouble? When a few episodes ago he couldn't do anything without using a translation device? Seriously?

Or maybe he was just hiding his 'power level' because he lacked confidence? But then there's also Lelei, who's currently picking up spoken Japanese in record time...

Anyway I don't actually mind this (the plot can flow easier now that the language barrier is gone), but still... it's just too sudden.

Maybe he's spent so much time with the girls he's picked up more of the language?

Anyway. Pina Co Lada? REALLY??? Does she like getting caught in the rain?
Once I'd stopped laughing I realised I had a horrible earworm on account of that.

dang, what a cliffhanger.

Rory Mercury stealing the show each episode.

The Princess Knight is just okay, not sure what to think of her really.

Well if this is the case then I wish he could have spent that time on-screen. Or at least some of it...

No, no, he said it himself: it must have been the bump on the head. Lol. I don't mind. Realism is the least of my concerns in anime. Maybe it was Lelei's magic. Or something.

They really can't seem to make there mind up on how much they want to censor this show apparently a dragon arm being blown off is to much but now talking about rape and seeing bandits slashed up with a sword is fine also Tuka seem to be acting more like the novel/manga now so that's good this episode is a lot better than the last one.

Rory loves the it is better to be our friend than be our enemies approach of the JSDF.

Rory approves of Nanoha style of befriending.

What Itami implied is gunboat diplomacy though he didn't fully realize it.

Don´t know about the Novels, but in the Manga it was the same. Itami could understand the Locals absolut perfectly.

Since they are spending TWO episodes on the defence of the city, I am of the opinion that they are going to reach the halfway mark of the novel series by the end of this 2 cour show. Basically 2.5 books out of 5.

It is a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing in that it would have been TOO rushed to try and push for the animating of 5 books in 26 episodes. But bad thing in that I wanted to see how it ended.

Well, let's hope there is a 2nd season.

IIRC, aohige poste the DVD/BR dvd preorders figures and it is looking rather good. There may be hope!

I admit I have been skeptical about the series, hype aversion all that jazz, and the first episode have not helped. However, I am considering myself sold from the third episode, which is when Mercury have been introduced iirc.

I haven't read the novels, but after watching through episode 4 I went and read the manga, and this episode was certainly a lot less graphic than what was shown there. The bandits didn't even have to mutilate any of the bodies here for the line to break, while in the manga they were cutting apart the bodies of women and throwing them into the crowd to rile them up, and so on. I suppose that would require a different timeslot.

Even though I watched some of the anime first and then read the manga, I have to say that Rory's voice does not seem fitting to me. It's just too deep. I get that she's old and she speaks in an older fashion and whatnot, but she has the body of a young girl, and that voice is just too deep for that for me. That aside, the performance is great, certainly. I hope the next episode is handled as well.

I'm happy their spending more time in Italica being that this is the 3rd major arc and conflict in the plot. It shouldn't be rushed.

Right, this always bugged me too, especially since he's supposed be a notorious slacker.

Yep, the anime version isn't nearly as effective, but hey it is what it is.

Learning isn't always linear. You can spend a long, long time trying to learn something without much success and then one day suddenly you get it and it all make sense now.

Or you can fall into a coma and wake up speaking fluently. (I kinda wonder how hard Pina opened that door, though...)

It airs at 00:30 you don't really get later than that when Game of Thrones airs at 21:00 and the US has more restrictions on what can be shown and when than Japan.
