Another faction far more worth mentioning for 2010:
Umineko

Imho, sadly, I don't think so...

I want to support the girls in Taishou Yakyuu Musume, I hope that they will do well, but I'm afraid that'll be hard...

That's not just a rumor, it's true. They showed a teaser for it after the last episode of Haruhi Season 2.

Well I really don't know about Umineko anymore... I had the same opinion as you OverFunk, but after the Riza (FMA) x Beatrice (Umi) results on ISML I don't know anymore... FMA popularity should have made that an easy win imo but seems like there is some fanctions for it somewhere as Beato won. So I would think twice before being sure that umineko wouldn't do well in saimoe.

Yeah but cp, remember that according to this chart, Japan, USA, and Korea all voted for Riza.

Hmm how big is China and Korea participation in J-saimoe? Cause in that same chart, most of China voted for Beato.

ISML != Japan Saimoe
See Rei vs Saki.

Japan was nearly 70% in favor of Saki over Rei. I would expect something closer to the exact reverse if they met in Saimoe 2009. Korea and US were 60% in favor of Rei as well.

At least Beatrice still beat Riza. Rei stomped Saki in ISML when it would have been Saki stomping Rei in Japanese Saimoe.

Because a large majority of voters in Jsaimoe are Japanese, I'de imagine Chinese participation is rather small. Same with Korea.

I'll probably put my support into Bakemonogatari next year. Hitagi and Nadeko <3.

I know that very well. My comment isn't like "She did well in ISML so she will do well in J-saimoe!", but rather my point is "She did well in ISML when I really didn't expect her too as Umineko isn't really a moe show, something that don't change wherever you watch it." Does this means I think she will do well in saimoe like that? no. But like I said I not that sure anymore that Umineko charas will do bad just because the show isn't about moe.

We will only know in around 9-10 months anyway.

It is called 'Japan Saimoe' for a reason. I think Hitagi would do well.

For Umineko....well it depends on how people take the story as it comes out. There are some real (or maybe fake...it can't be proven yet) scenes that can cause the need to protect some of the female characters in the story through the Fifth Game. And even up to the Fourth Game there are said moments, which will be touched on in the anime.

It probably won't have the impact that Higurashi did...moe-wise.

Beatrice has a following,
This is an example of a new charcter CD cover:

Maria might have one.
Shannon might have one (Rei voiced with a chest...really?)
Jessica could have one, but that's more for her relationship with Kanon.
The various furniture of the Witch would have their own following, but most of them are fanservice characters types.
Bern could have a following
Lambda might have a following.
A few of the parents might have followings, but not so much for moe.
There shouldn't be anything else...well, maybe one or two more characters that haven't appeared yet in the anime.

Yea, but this Saimoe is "original". That's like calling "manga" as "J-manga".

I was replying to Chaosphophet. What does being "original" have to do with my reply?

Edit: Oh, does it really matters? Adding the J to Saimoe gives more clarity to what I meant. Even this thread adds (Japan) to the title in parenthesis.

Well, I'm also using the argument to make fun of anyone who said the word "original" in the Sub vs Dub "debate" over the years. Quotes such as "I prefer sub because it is in 'original' Japanese."

Well, here's the Saimoe contest that's in "original" Japanese.

Just for a bit of nomenclature:

* Saimoe is Saimoe. The first one ever made.
* ISML is not Saimoe. It's ISML.
* Best Moe. Well, that's either K-Moe, or Best Moe. Whichever sounds cooler.

Another thing to point out -- there's this innate habit to J-everything. J-pop. J-rock. J-music. I hope our use of language do not evolve to J-anime once every other animation studio across the world catches up to produce the same level of quality (both visual and story) as Japanese animators.

To J-Saimoe is about as redundant as J-anime.

Regardless, it is rather irritating to 2ch's banning of other networks.

I see several blogs calling it Saimoe Japan or Anime Saimoe(Before Manga Saimoe, wasn't Anime Saimoe still being used?). Both are equally redundant, if that's what you want to call it, but I still don't see the problem with it. There are so many moe tournament these days, I rather just name them by their location. Which is even more reason to use clarity, because stating "Saimoe" doesn't guarantee which Saimoe you're referring to, as there is a Manga Saimoe and a Anime Saimoe. If I lived in Japan, Saimoe would be the appropriate term, but since I don't, there is nothing wrong with adding J to Saimoe. A example would be how the french call French Fries 'Fried Potatoes" where-as we call them...well, French Fries(Not simply "fries"), because they originated From france.

I'd also like to add that there is a Chinese Saimoe. (Although I think they call it Saimoe in China)

Do they really have one? Now, that's funny. I can understand the Koreans having one of their own. They're right next door, and the Japanese (2ch) likely don't want them involved either.
