K-On characters were, at least for me, memorable and semi-original with a unique chemistry to them. Not gonna write the show off on first impressions, but first impressions aren't good. Characters look generic and bland. Music didn't catch me. It also looks like they'll start already being a band, which is always a bad sign.

Wow, this looks and sounds great. It looks very nicely polished and well-made.
It looks and sounds like a fantastically fun fusion of K-On! and Love Live! I'm honestly surprised this thread isn't more active here, given how the K-On and Love Live fandoms are two big anime fandoms. I'm very strongly encouraged and enthused by this PV. I'm definitely looking forward to BanG Dream! (granted, I can't help but laugh some at the name given its sexual suggestiveness )

1. The costumes in the 2nd half of the PV. Those look like idol costumes to me. I don't recall the K-On girls ever wearing something like that (well, except in an ED, maybe). 2. This PV gives me the impression that the music side will be treated more seriously here than it was in K-On. Not saying that's necessarily bad or good, as it's a matter of personal preference, really. However, taking the music side seriously would make it more like Love Live (and its fairly serious approach to idol performances) than K-On, in this particular area. I suppose you could say this is K-On + White Album 2, but then a major element of WA2 is its het romance drama, and this PV gives every impression of being an all-girls show, so... So yeah, BanG Dream! = K-On + Love Live, sounds about right to me.

I never said BanG Dream! is an idol anime. But there's certainly some elements in that PV that are similar to what's commonly seen in idol anime. And those elements are likely to appeal to idol anime fans.
For a point of comparison, I wouldn't call Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha a mecha anime franchise. However, there's elements in it that can appeal to mecha anime fans, and I think there's some recommendation value in pointing this sort of thing out.

We've come at an age where genres exist in certain aspects of anime that belong to other aspects.
There's no need to fight over what kind of anime this is. That said, (due to problems with audio in my CPU) I'm unable to properly gauge the skill level of the seiyuus. It could be fun, but idols and similar concepts aren't my cup of tea.
