a couple of ova is more welcome as long as I see justify in gore but it looks like the gore tag was removed but really...... I prefer Index S3 than this.

I can't remember, but was the Level Upper Arc in the Anime particularly gory?

I think Tatsuyuki Nagai is okay with portraying violent, but I don't recall things being splashy...

Announces usually aren't this soon, unless it's a movie (or first season) and they really need to attract attention and viewers.

If this won't be a full 13 - 26 episodes course, it's possible they will air it whenewer they want.

Mah~ It's hard to say, OreImo was announced a full year ahead.

IF by any chance it's a Spring Anime, that would still leave the big Fall season open...

"TVアニメ『とある科学の超電磁砲(レールガン)』第2期" (Yes) via Dengeki Online.

would prefer to only announce the second season after the current arc of the manga was over, now is the frustration of knowing that there are good chances of having multiple episodes fillers

This could only mean 2 things. Filler arcs or the current arc in the manga is nearing its end and the reason why there are only few pages with the past few release meant that the author is probably busy with this crap or other loads of crap which he always ended up doing.

If it's the same staff, then it stands to reason it'll be the same MO.

However please remember that the so-called filler arcs are still written by Kamachi- The last one even became canon for both Railgun and Index.

Oh, should have read it more carefully.
But I am still concerned about the "S" in name.

01 - 17 was LU arc
18 - 30 was ITEM arc
31 - 39 was sisters arc
40 - 53+ is the Daihasei arc.
so you have: 17, 13, 9 and now 14, which means it really is near it's end.

On top of that Kamachi has NT5, NT6.. , Movie, PSP Game (1 LN long scenario), new Index SS for the BD/DVD releases of this railgun season and other series - Heavy Object, Zashiki Warashi, A Simple Survey and other smaller stuff..

I think Episodes 1-12 for the Consolidated Sisters Arc (ITEM+Sisters) and 13-24 for the Daihaseisai Arc would be a decent prediction. Sisters Arc may be at most two episodes longer.

ITEM and Sisters were part of the same arc, IMO. So 18-39, 22 chapters.

And I don't think we are too close to the end of the Daihasei arc. We still don't know alot of what is going on, and how it all fits together.

Well, depends on Kamachi.
If the next chapter will not involve some twist in story, and Mikoto/Kuroko/Saten/Uiharu really meet up, 90% of everything foreshadowed so far will be explained during their meeting.

I can point you to an entire legion of people on a certain anonymous board, where everyone already has it.

Holy crap I can't believe this Hold on a sec. *pinch* Yep not dreaming. This came out of nowhere, wouldn't it normally be announced a lot later?

I would've preferred Index III but hell I'm going to focus on the positive side. Either way we get to see ITEM animated at least (not sure if that counts as a spoiler but other people have mentioned it so I will).

I think if it wasn't gonna be a full, actual second season, they would have stated they were planning just OVAS.

I think it's safe to assume that, seeing JC Staffs schedule is pretty empty in 2013 so far apart from the Index Movie, that we will get a full 26 episode series, hopefully in April at the earliest.

And how about liberal arts city? I mean, assuming they're going to do a full 2-cour (including Daihaseisai in it), how are they going to introduce you-know-who without it?

js06 posted some more spoilers from the event:

And 2ch started freaking out over the possibility of all four girls defeating Accelerator, but the guy who made the original comment claims overall it seemed more like they will give the other girls their own individual episodes while the Sisters arc happens.

Other details he gave:
Touma and Index's VAs had not been told about the 2nd season.
The Railgun 4's VAs had known about it for a while, but they don't know what the 2nd season will cover.
The key visual image showed Misaka with goggles, so Sisters arc is pretty much confirmed.
Kanzaki's VA (The event wasn't just about Railgun) was relieved to see Saten on the cover of Railgun Volume 8, so she presumably doesn't read it.
Touma's VA on the other hand talked about what he (Touma) does at various points, and otherwise made it clear he reads both the LNs and the Railgun manga.
