just watched the sub, its pretty much deculture version with less scenes + interaction between alto and sheryl, still pretty good

next ep preview looks awesome

Yes, Deculture edition had wonderful aspects, but the story line in episode one makes a lot more sense. It would be awesome if it could be combined. So Lanka's brother is Skull Leader... From the way things look.

I kind of missed the excited, giddy Sheryl in Deculture (space plane scene in the beginning). The one in episode one is all work and quite mean. It looks like her character is one dimensional in episode 1.

Overall, an excellent episode.

Are you talking about the Director's Cut version (Decultured) of Episode 01?

The OP is alright but wished it was better, sounded kinda generic. As for the ED didn't think it was good it sounded like a gimped Aquarion ED version.

well, nothing wrong with sayaa sakamoto, but i guess it would be nice for a more GAR opening, that had more of an original Macross flair. perhaps sung by JAM project would be cool.

but yeah, ending is a bit weak, they have never attempted to show up what protoculture language look or sound like befor,e so i dunno why they tried now.

but i also found something about this version, is that while i love the extended concert scenes, im finding myself missing the mixed battle/concert.

I think that bit is certainly "deculture" alright.

Epic. Epic. Truly Epic. Macross is back on the air! This series starts out petty good. I can;'t say I'm in love with any of the characters so far, but I did get to like them a bit more then I though I would - judging by their designs in the opening.

I also want to say, when they started fighting in the Valkyries, I had goose pimples from head to toe. That was what I wanted to see and I got just enough of it to drool over. I am very excited to see that CG is being used to mostly good effect and that the aliens (invid want-to-be?) are interesting and apparently not at all humanoid.

Did anyone else like the fact that the Valkyries are merging human and zentordi technology? The Valkyrie is the same, but the pilot inside is in a power suit much like the old zentrodi battle pods. That was a nice touch, indeed.

I also like the music and am glad to see it is going to be as important to this series as it was to all the others in the past.

Finally, I would love to see an old favorite return - so long as they aren't the Crapcross 7 edition version.

Here is looking forward to several seasons of good Macross loving entertainment!

The OP definitely is below par for Sakamoto IMO. I think there's some OP, even the new Naruto Shippuden OP this season that sounds better overall.

Also, even the background OST seems to have downgraded and it sounds sorta like Darker than Black now. Why the change, I wonder? It was excellent in the director's cut. My guess is that they might be saving the more dramatic tunes for later on.

I seriously hope this is not some sudden downturn in production values for the show, but it still was pretty fun to watch. Then again, the director's cut was vastly superior IMO.

Macross 7 gets some flack, but mainly because it was more of a music-band anime than Macross for most of the way, plus the Vash the Stampede style uber-pacifist in Basara. No doubt that Frontier won't follow the same vein. It just can't out of premise. I don't think M7 was bad at all (as a standalone, it was pretty good actually), but I think they are emphasizing a return to form. The transformed Macross battleship seems to be proof of that, though I wonder why that thing is even returning.

I watched this back in december 24, and now ep 1 isreleased again

can someone kindly point out the differences between the "deculture" edition from the "other" episode 1? Im kinda confused.

on another note

somehow, the VF25 didn't strike me the way the VF-19 and VF22. They looked far more "kickass"

I don't think there was the 'other' episode 1. Director's Cut, Deculture, whatever. To all my knowledge and downloading a bunch of fansubs to RAWs, I haven't ran across alternating versions personally.

I think that's the charm of VF25 really. Its lowkey design reminds me of some modern European fighters. The thing even looks slimmer than the very first VF model. Or maybe even VF-O.

Liking it here too. Even if I'm not terribly acquainted with many fighters, it has already amalgamated a few features from those that I do know about.
A vaguely Su-27 fuselage and tail, Rafale/F-18-ish intakes, the trademark swing wings.

Nice little efficient design IMO. The Plus fighters were far too fancy for my liking, even though their designs were still grounded in real life planes.

And regarding the differences, the differences are only with cosmetic aspects, which only serve to change the viewer experience, so the plot has not been changed, only little things here and there.

thanks for the info guys.

yeah, I can kinda relate, the vf25 is more of a porsche and the plus planes are more lamborghini/ferarri/pagani -esque

Metal Siren from Macross 2 lovers again was good too but too bad, not a single model was released. In the movie, it single handedly defended a whole sector of the earth from an all out attack from the marduk

but for sheer kickass factor.....its the full armor VF-11, I used it in macross VFX-2 and it had everything but the kitchen sink. you can take on a whole armada by yourself with it. It had a BIG gattling gun, a whole truckload of high maneuver missiles, a grenade launcher and NUKES!!!

I personally prefer this version. This is mainly because the flight scene during the concert shows Sheryl's professionalism more than anything else. She was willing to drop her 'hatred' of alto's team and improvised maginficently like any decent star should be able to when disaster strikes. Props to her; she's gained many plus points for me.

So while I love synchronized pew pew with song just like in DYRL, I'd take character development over that this early in the series anyday. It's only episode one after all, and there's still plenty of chances of something that grand near the end of the series, no?

And yeah, Nyan-Nyan CM absolutely rocks. I hope they keep it for the whole series as the animation before/after the real commercial break lol.

Still, I loved Ranka's 'Ai Oboete Imasuka', as her performance there is heads and tails above her performance with the new ED. Oh well, I have a creeping suspicion that would be one of the in-story songs whenever Ranka becomes an idol. (Seriously now, who doesn't see that coming? Her VA was chosen from an audition where singing played a major part after all)

For a person like myself who doesn't like robot involved anime series I have taken a shine to this one. First of all I can definitely say quality was their top priority IMO. The fighting scenes were not dragged on and well done and actually got somewhere, beginning was a bit slow but I'm not complaining overall 9/10

P.S. nice that they don't hide the gore but more would be a nice touch ^^

I have not been watching any Macross series since Macross 7. However, this is looking good and I'm defenitely keeping my eye on this.

The last scene reminds me of the original episode 1 Macross from the 90's.

Is there any difference between 12/23/2007 Macross Frontier than this one?

Only small additions in music presentation, compared with the deculture, but the first one is more solid, better action and music combination, more fear about the enemy incoming etc.

The OP and ED is great.

I can't wait for the next episode. I pray to not drop in quality.
