That has more ridiculous explosions and physics that nearly anything Hollywood does. (anything that isn't classed as a parody anyway). Even 1980s TV shows didn't get that silly (save maybe for people suviving those sorts of things).

Yeah, there are quite a lot of Pokemon that will have that sprite (In the first Pokemon games, anyway), since there's only like five of those sprites. It's not the same Pokemon btw or even the same type.
