Can't say anything on the plot or the story yet. Has this style over substance feel so far.
But the animation quality is certainly great. My favorite so far thus season.

Episode 1

Huh. Great Pretender meets Kakegurui meets... uh... Card Captor Sakura? It was perhaps a bit too frantic, but I'm encouraged by the op and the Episode 2 preview that this may become something of a super powered combat / heist show. I'll definitely watch for now, but yeah, it does seem like it has a risk of being too style over substance.

I guess it's not going to be a series about playing Texas hold'em. Watched a bit of the first episode, but it seemed pretty generic. Not likely to watch much more.

The creators confirmed High Card was inspired by the Kingsman movie (the one with Colin Firth and Taron Egerton) and made to appeal to non-Japanese fans.

Episode 2 goes into the reasons for why these cards are sought after and the politics behind it. The car dealership is a front and the MC kid gets hired as an apprentice. His friend at the orphanage gave him some wise words, which will come into play later on I'm sure.

Other than that, going clothes shopping with his new senpai didn't lead to anything because MC kid is still wearing the same clothes!

I mean clothes do have to be cut and sewn together. He's getting a completely tailor made suit. Not something off the rack.
