It took a long time for ep4 to appear. The first thing to appear was a Chinese sub. Click the second link here. Enough happened for at least two episodes.

Spoiler for ep4:

Raven fights off the spirit wolf/hound through the OP, breaking his knife on its teeth, but scaring it away when the flames appear in his eye.

Lydia and her father are in prison, held by the bad guy. Raven passes two messages to her through a window: one that Edgar plans to sacrifice her as the blood sacrifice necessary for him to get the sword. Two that if she plays along with the bad guy and goes to the last window, they will be saved.

She and the bad guys find the sword, but Edgar and Raven show up, and leave the bad guys scattered on the ground. Lydia is still worried for her father, who remains in prison, but she, Raven and Edgar end up finding their way to the chamber of the sword.

Edgar rushed to grab the sword, but it is a mirage. The merrow who guards the sword gives it to Lydia. Edgar walks toward her, offering to let her sacrifice him for his evil intent. She, as he knew, cannot kill him. He grabs the sword by the blade, and some of his blood drops into the pool at their feet, constituting the blood sacrifice. He apologizes to Raven and disappears.

The bad guys come up with Lydia's father and demand the sword, but Nico sics the brownies on them and they are defeated. Lydia apologizes to her father and goes off with Nico after Edgar, who has been taken to the merrow realm under the sea. She finds him, and he thinks he is in a dream.

She asks the queen of the merrow for the sword. Even though Edgar is not the earl, she could create a new one. The Queen agrees, but says that since Edgar doesn't have the required star for the sapphire in the handle of the sword, she must take a soul in exchange...Lydia's.

As magic fire washes out toward Lydia, Edgar steps between them and asks that the star brand on his tongue be considered sufficient, and the queen agrees. The star appears in the sapphire of the sword-hilt, and Lydia tells the queen that the earl will guarantee that the merrow can always live at the island.

Edgar embraces Lydia and she asks him what he is doing. He says it's for safety...his. Finally he says: "Thank you, my bride." (I hear this as yome, "bride," but it is translated "my fairy" -- yousei -- in the Chinese sub.) EDIT: I have now heard a better raw, and it is in fact "my fairy," not "my bride."

At the very end, we see the spirit wolf coming to its master, who must be the real earl, and reporting that they got the sword. The earl smiles...smile and blonde hair much like Edgar's.

Wow. Maybe too much, and not all perfectly reasonable, but highly entertaining, and even moving, nonetheless.

He probably didn't know that nutcase is on the front page of a lot of newspapers for wanted murder in America. XD I wonder how he will react then...

the events seem are stuff thgat I expect on episodes near the last one o_o can't believe that's just episode 4 xD Thanks for the summary and the chinese sub link Can't wait to see it xD

They probably are the events that came at the end of novel 1. That's what they sound like to me. But with 11 novels (don't quote me on that exact number) in the series so far, I expect the anime to try and cover more than 1 novel. Judging by other recent novel to anime adaptations, we'll probably get about 4 novels animated. For the anime, I think of these events as being like the end of a story arc.

Edit: I did some checking. It seems like there are 16 novels not 11 as I said before.

Yeah the kiss is really adorable.
This show is one of a few I like most in this season and I hope that they will do a greate job till the end

A Kelpie is "a supernatural water horse from Celtic folklore that is believed to haunt the rivers and lakes of Scotland and Ireland." Here's another page about them.

They lived in the water, but sometimes came on land and tempted people to ride them. Once someone mounted, they became stuck to the kelpie's back and the kelpie dove into the water and finally ate them.

There is "a Scottish tale in which...a water horse...rises above water, seeking a wife. However, after attempting to court a clever girl...he is captured and forced to work in order to be taught compassion. After learning his lesson, he is given the choice of departing...or drinking a magic potion that will make him a real man. The water horse, now full of love decides to drink the potion which erases the memories of his life as a water horse and gives him the chance to live with the clever girl with whom he has fallen in love."

This has no connection with anything, but in searching around, I found two bands called Kelpie. One is (or was) in the US. The other is in Germany.

16 volumes? they have enough material for two 24+ episode long seasons.

Edgar really considers Lydia as his future bride as we hear him tell his butler. "i think i made my future wife hate me". Now it is up all to lydia.

Whoo-hoo! Kelpie appears! In the opening shot, no less. I've been waiting for his arrival ever since I saw him on the web site.

Lydia has a new day dress. It's dark blue. A little severe with its prim high collar, but I like it better than the pink one she wore in the last arc. She also has a new all white party dress. I didn't like it as much as the one she wore for the formal dinner on the ship though.

Kelpie shows up at Edgar's formal ball with the intent of claiming Lydia. Since he wanted to give her a ring, I assume he wanted to propose to her. It looks like they've known each other for a long time. Long enough, that Kelpie feels no shame in lifting up Lydia's dress to look underneath it. (I got the feeling he was concerned that her wide skirt meant she'd gained a lot of weight. But I could be completely wrong about that.) However by accident, he placed the ring on the hand of a gentleman defending Lydia. Now the ring won't come off that man's hand. Does this mean Kelpie is engaged to him instead?

There was a murder attempt on Lydia by her dance instructor. Thwarted by Raven. The dance instructor escaped leaving behind a necklace with a quarter moon pendant. The same symbol shows up in the seal of a threatening letter Edgar receives at the end of the episode. The moon will likely play a role in this arc since the ring Kelpie tries to give Lydia has an opal or a more likely a moonstone as its gem stone.

There are some flashbacks to Lydia's childhood that I didn't understand although I gathered they were unpleasant memories for her.

The Engrish in the letters is amusing. Pause the screen and take a moment to read it.

These impressions are based solely on what I saw because I don't understand Japanese. If the dialogue said something different, I wouldn't know.

I will love you forever if you make me a nice Lydia or Lydia/Edgar avatar because I am a big Lydia and Lydia/Edgar fangirl. I love her the most with her spunky expressions (the ones when she's arguing with Edgar) like these two screenshots...





I have over sixty screen shots of Lydia I swear...

I hate that the subs come out so slow for this anime because I just watch Earl and Fairy Episode 4. I'll watch the raw to catch up with everyone else of course. I loved Episode 4. It was so climatic I thought.

I love Kelpie's character design! He's sooo handsome! I don't know why but he strikes me as the daredevil type! Like cool and with a devil-may-care attitude. XD This is of course coming from someone who doesn't speak Japanese watching the raws. But yeah he is total I want to know more about his personality but I'll have to wait for the weekend sub release as usual.

To be frank, I don't like Lydia's blue dress as much. But I love her white dress. It's pretty, though nothing compares to the one in Episode 1 for the party. However, her hair arrangement is very nice. I swear she can do so much with that caramel-colored hair of hers. I want her hair.

I have a feeling that Kelpie and Lydia know each other a bit too well. Have you seen her physically so fierce towards Edgar as she was toward Kelpie? I remember her slapping Edgar ONCE. In this episode alone, she slaps, screams, elbows, and other types of physically/verbally violent behavior toward Kelpie. I don't see her behavior as that of "I hate you to death" though. I see it more as "since I have known you for so long, I can do these things to you because you're being an ass in front of everyone". I feel sorry for the gentleman who defended her though. I have a feeling he will have feelings for her too. Kelpie has already proven that unless it's another case of misleading raw episode again.

So many Edgar/Lydia moment especially when he touches her hand in the beginning half. I am worried about that letter though. It probably has to do with the owner of the hound.

Once you get to Episode 5, it would be funny to see an avatar of Nico getting his mouth covered by Lydia. I'm not sure what avatar I want yet except that I'll like a Lydia one. I just have to think of a scene.

You are partially correct. HE was not the successor to the previous earl, but NOW he is the EARL. The queen has aknowledged him. The only way that the OLD Earl's successor can get the title back is to kill Edgar and go to the Merrow Queen with the six pointed star.
