One day Kanzashi bore witness to her sister's antics of making Ichika blush, hard. It was a very messy affair but luckily they didn't notice her there. Kanzashi locked herself in her room and started analyzing the situation then. Her sister was in her underwear, and apparently about to lose the upper part of it. Ichika was blushing like crazy and seemed to be reaching out to touch(misunderstood from push away) her sister. Kanzashi wonder if Ichika is into bold girls. Kanzashi touches herself and realizes she's not equipped to be bold. (T_T) She goes to read her manga but that little voice in her head keeps annoying her "What was wrong with being a little more bold?"

Kanzashi's mind floats away to a scenario. Kanzashi asks Ichika to help her arrange her manga sicne Honne is away and ti was about time to sweep the shelves. She and Ichika are cleaning normally. Ichika finds an unusual volume and asks Kanzashi where he should put it. Kanzashi turns to him to get a look at the manga but Ichika was trying to face her as well and both slipped on a wiping rug on the floor. They stumble onto her bed, Ichika on top of Kanzashi. The two of them feel their heart thumping and Ichika stammers an apology with a blush on his face. Kanzashi suddenly reaches out to him and grabs him by the collar. She's blushing as well but she pulls him down and tells him to stay. The two are confused, mostly Ichika. Kanzashi follows her instincts and caresses Ichika's face, asking him what he thinks of her. Ichika responds honestly and says she's a friend. Kanzashi is a bit hurt and pulls him closer. One hand is on his collar and another on his lips and makes him promise to stay quiet. The finger on Ichika's lips lazily reaches down to Kanzashi's top and undoes the buttons to reveal a rather racy number. Ichika's brain is frozen now and Kanzashi isn't sure whether she wants to continue or disappear. She opts for the former, telling Ichika that if he wants to she'd be okay with it. She pulls him closer and she can feel his trembling breath on her lips-

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

Kanzashi is brought back to reality as a blubbering puddle of girlish giggles. It's Tatenashi at the door and she's asking her little sister if the girl had any cosplay in stock.

========== Moments later, back at Tsurugi’s residence ==========

Kiyoshi and Reika sits on one side of the dining table, with their respective cups of tea, while Inami, Tsurugi and Cecilia sits across them.

“Ah, a Representative Cadet, you say?” Reika enquires to Cecilia.

“That’s right.”

“You must be an impressive IS pilot then! We do have a few IS Academy students drop by our dojo once in a while as assistant trainers and trainees alike.”

“Really now? I’ve not heard of such attachment programs being held.”

“They’re mainly second-year students, especially those that lean towards melee combat proficiency skills.”

“I see…”

“It’s a special attachment program since the dojo’s short on trainers and they have a minimal age requirement for permanent instructors.”

“So basically… It’s an issue with manpower?”

“More or less. Due to the age restriction, we can’t employ our original assistant trainers.”

Cecilia tilts her head slightly upon hearing the remark, looking at Reika with a confused look.

“Original… assistant trainers…?”

“Yes. They served the dojo years ago. Even at the young age of fourteen, the older trainees still look up to them as worthy instructors.”

“If I may ask, what happened to the trainers?”

“One disappeared, but he came back recently. As for the other, she resigned after the other’s disappearance.”

“That’s rather unfortunate… Then again, those instructors must’ve been really great to be having such positive impact on their students.”

“That they are. Even with the temporary instructor and age restriction system in place, the dojo’s still holding out.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, Reika-san… Who are the instructors?”

Reika stays silent for a moment and looks at Kiyoshi with a smile, gesturing him to answer.

“They’re sitting right next to you at the moment, Cecilia-chan.” He answers Cecilia.

Second scene

========== At the dormitories, in Ichika’s room ==========

Lingyin sits on the bed, trying to keep herself composed as an unknown aura residing in his room causes her heart to beat fast.

‘Uuu… What is this? I can’t keep calm even when I’ve been here a lot of times… and then there’s this… good smell…’

Her mind frantically tries to keep calm as she looks around the room to find something to distract her. Not long after, a photo album on top of a desk catches her attention.

“Ah, you still have commemorative photos kept?”

“Hm? Ah, yes. Ever since the photo of us that was taken during second year in Middle School, there have not been any more pictures taken after that.”

“That photo…?”

“Yeap. The one that was taken shortly before you moved out. Don’t you remember?”

“I think I could recall… somehow.”

“Ah, well okay then.”

‘That was a lie… I remember that moment very clearly.’ Lingyin thinks to herself, looking at Ichika as he hands over a glass of cold barley tea to her.

“Thanks.”

She then drinks the barley tea and set her curious eyes on the album.

“May I…?” She asks while pointing at it.

“Sure.”

She takes the photo album and begins to slowly flip through the pictures, stopping to look at what would seem to be a photo taken when Chifuyu was still in middle school and young Ichika being much smaller than he currently is.

“That’s our first photo… taken during first year in elementary school.” He remarks while pointing at the photo.

“The first? There are no other pictures before this…?”

“Seems like it.” He answers with uncertainty while sitting next to Lingyin, causing her to slightly startle in fright due to sudden close proximity with Ichika.

He then takes the photo album and begins to browse through the pages, showing various photos of him when he was very young.

‘Aah… Erm… Damn, keep cool! There shouldn’t be any scent of sweat, right? I mean, he’s not reacting or whatsoever… yet.’

As she tries to apprehend her stirred mind, Ichika notices a couple of photos in the album, ones that he has not seen before.

“Hm…? Don’t remember these photos being here…”

“Ah? Which one…?”

He then slips out the photos. One of them shows a photo of what would seem to be Chifuyu, Maya, some Academy students and a few other people, seemingly taken in a dojo.

“This photo seems pretty new… Still… When was this taken?” Ichika mumbles to himself as he then looks at the other, much dated photo.

The photo shows a slightly younger Chifuyu along with some familiar faces from the other, recent photo.

As he scans through the said photo, his attention shifts towards two particular individuals who have their arms placed around each other’s back. Seemingly sporting familiar traits, Ichika soon recognizes the individuals.

“T…This is… Could it be… Inami and Tsurugi-san?”

“What?” Lingyin snaps as she looks closely at the photo, also noticing their familiar appearances soon after.

“Yeah… You’re right! They do look like them!” She remarks.

“Chifuyu-nee… has a past connection with them…?”

“Most likely. Shall we go and ask her?”

“I suppose. C’mon!”

“Okay.”

@era-era: Read one too many shoujo manga, know nothing about how women work and assume.

Well I'ma think up of one for Byaku-chi now.

EDIT: I got that last idea for Kanzashi while washing dishes... How that works I don't know o.o

Does it's even hinted that Chifuyu remember or hinted in past chapter that she ACTUALLY meet these two in the past? I don't recall it, really.
EDIT: Well, I knew you reveal it just recently, maybe I'm just a big fan of Checkhov's tropes, so just ignore it.

That's where the slight humor of an honest misunderstanding comes in.

Towards the end of Athena Bouclier, Chifuyu kept saying that there's something 'interesting' about Inami. She senses a hint of familiarity but she has yet to remember that she met Inami and Tsurugi once before.

Inami, on the other hand... Thought Chifuyu remembers and assumed it was the rationale behind her decision to make him an instructor.

Then again, they only met once.
