Nishio Ishin (or sometimes NisiOisiN) is the author of several light novel series-- Zaregoto, Bakemonogatari (his most famous, mostly due to the anime, I think), Katanagatari and a few others in the Bakemonogatari universe.

He's also the person who writes Medaka Box (it's drawn by Akatsuki Akira). He's tried a few one shots in the past, but they weren't successful until the MB one was done, which got him the series.

BTW, chapters 62 and 63 are scanlated now. Almost caught up.

The battle will be held after the summer holidays (5 weeks), and will be set up as a series of 5 matches where each member of the student council will take on their opposite number in a one on one duel. Best 3 out of 5 wins the right to be the legitimate student council.

The strategy Hinokage and Maguro originally set up was to:

1. Spend the entire time training Medaka and co. (both physically & psychologically)

2. Promote Zenikichi to the position of Vice-President while sacrificing the General Affairs Manager match to increase their chances of victory.

However, Zenikichi brings out the Medaka Box which is now filled to the brim with letters of support from the student body. He argues that unlike the minus student council, they are carrying the hopes and dreams of the student body....so they should not use underhanded/crafty tactics like promoting him to VP/bringing in someone to fill the missing position in the council. They eventually agree with him, so he remains as the General Affairs Manager.

Note that they are assuming that Emukae will be the one the minus group will elect as their General Affairs Manager. However, they will be in for a nasty surprise....as on the minus group's side, their leader Kumagawa has just elected himself as their council's new GENERAL AFFAIRS MANAGER.

So it'll be Kumagawa vs Zenikichi!

If anything, this'll give a chance to see jusy what Misogi the healer is capable of in battle(other than his giant-ass screws and bolts). And hopefully we'll get a full report on just where Zenkichi ranks on the Abnormal Plus/Minus chart.

And, I hate to say it but, I'd also like to see Medaka's fight. It'll probably be against Shiranui because Nishio has said the due to the full extent of Medaka's Abnormality she can't fight a Minus and win. "The End" used against a Minus' Abnormality will end up hurting her. It hasn't been explicitly stated whether Shiranui is Normal/Special/Abnormal. So it's probably the only way to keep the "Medaka always wins line" going strong.

That's actually kind of a letdown.

I was sort of looking forward to seeing the training. And what's with Nisio going to the fight so fast. If he's trying to hurry and get it over with, then he may have plans for the members of Class -13 that haven't arrived yet.

And who knows, maybe we'll see Zenkichi join them.

The "Snake pit" is exactly what you can expected: A fight above a deep hole with a floor covered by poison snakes. Both duelists fight on a metal fence, which´ll slowly sink deeper and deeper until the snakes can bites them into their heels!

Looks like the fights not over yet, so it could still go either way given Kumagawa's masochism. He could just be toying with Zenkichi. Plus, Kumagawa doesn't really seem to strike me so much as the fighting type, but the kind of guy who wins with his presence and his power instead of his straight-up fighting skills.

And wtf was with Naze's tongue at the end of the chapter?

Oh, and a boatload of dialogue again. I can at least understand why some people dropped the series because of it. I know some who really enjoyed the series at first but have dropped it because they feel it's a light novel in manga form. I've learned to deal with it myself, but it can be tough.

It's obvious that Kumagawa is going to make a comeback next chapter, it's been shown many time he's got some kind of instant heal. We still don't know of an attack that can really touch him.

Medaka's been in the bottom five again the past two weeks, but it does have plenty of cushion. SWOT will probably be the next to go (not surprised). It's been dead last for a few weeks now. Figured it would crash after reading just one chapter. Psyren hasn't been doing much better, which IS a bit surprising. Oumagadoki seems to be doing a bit better and Hoshigami is sort of like Medaka with the way it yo-yos a bit.

Quite the contrary! Jump has one of the longest running manga series in the world, Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen Mae Hashutsujo, short Kochikame, with more than 1700 chapters!!

Point is, once your has made the 200 chapter mark you are pretty secure...

Well, back on the topic, I think I just realized something about Hitomi´s and Kumagawa´s powers:

We see the battle field which Hitomi left, but we can´t see Kumagawa at first. We look on the ground and suddenly his shadow appears.

My thought is now, that this shall foreshadow the extension of his recovery ability AND Hitomi´s strength: I suspect that Hitomi is strong enough to desintegrate a person, but Kumagawa can even recover from this kind of absolute destruction!

Nah, maybe I am just thinking too much...
