News of a possible release date for the fourth Rebuild film have been released in the Evangelion official twitter account, June the 27th, 2020. Nevertheless, fans should take the news as a grain of salt, because it's unknown whether the film will meet the scheduled date or not.

It's been so long that I really hope this is true.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Film Delayed Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The official website for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise announced on Friday that Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 (Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :||), Studio Khara's new Evangelion film, is delayed due to concerns over the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and its spread inside and outside of Japan. The film was scheduled to open in Japan on June 27. The staff have not yet revealed a new release date.

The website also revealed a new visual, which features a new tagline and a full English title: Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

The world will end and we will never see this damn movie...

I'd be more surprised at anyone actually being surprised by this piece of news.

Yeah, why would Eva be different than every other theatrical anime? Everything is getting delayed - even if the production is finished - for obvious reasons.

It'll be even worse if it and other films get released and no one got to watch it because they are all confined at home TBH

I have no idea what this movie will be about.
Like, what can you do with Shinji and this point?

Shinji still must learn to love himself (just as in old series) and take responsibility for his actions. Also judging by Animator Expo short and this shot from the trailer above. It is very likely, that once more his relationship with original Rei comes into play. Especially when at this point it's probably the last remaining thing that can still motivate Shinji into doing something.

Pretty sure most people were there just for the piano scene.

Then again, Eva has always been a clown fiesta. But it has its moments.

People tend to complain about the third movie but it's quite the only movie that tried doing something different from the anime by completely changing Shinji's actions. 1.0 was pretty much a rehash while 2.0 tried a different approach to the cast similar to Sadamoto's manga. 3.0 might be a mess to many though.

The only way to save the movies is with Shinji awakening after the second movie and finding all the third one was a nightmare :P

I'm very curious to see what happens in this next movie before I judge too harshly the events of 3.0 My opinion on the previous film is still that it felt like an introduction to something that we haven't seen yet, almost like it was a very drawn out intro to a larger story so I'm withholding judgement until I can watch 3.0+1.0. [God that naming scheme is terrible!]

I don't remember much about the 3rd movie, since I saw it so long ago, but I do remember I enjoyed it. The changes were welcomed compared to what the original series had. I especially liked the new girl who was introduced. All in all, I felt it was great to change the direction of the story-line, so that the movies can be its own story instead of rehashing what was in the past.
