The reason I'm wondering is because I'm debating if I need to switch brands myself, but I'm not sure which is the best one.

Currently I use FUJIFILM CD-R which I was really happy with, until I bought my latest spindle. FUJIFILM was the only brand that I could find that had very high recomendation's from everyone that tried them, so I paid extra ($15 for a 50 pack) to buy them. They have a protective blue coating on the bottom to help prevent scratches and I've never had a burn failure or lost data. But when I opened my new spindle I noticed some big changes. First the protection layer appears to be gone (although it's still advertised on the package), it feels more flimsy (probably from the lack of the extra layer) and it is now made in Taiwan instead of Japan. So now I'm worried about trusting my precious anime to these new cd-r's.

In the past ive tried imation and TDK since they were about $5 for a 50 pack but I had quite a few burning errors and even had a couple of disk that were unreadable after about 6 months, so I don't trust them.

Anyone have any recomendations?

I personally use Memorex....i tend to stay away from fujifilm and imation....i would only use those two brands if it's things i wanna burn but dont care all too much about...

or verbatim....havent' heard too many bad things about that brand...

Im not sure what you mean by CD-r. Do you mean what brand of cd does ever one use when they burn their anime to the cd's?

Stay away from Imation and house brands (unless you don't mind burning the same thing 3 times to get a good burn). Haven't used Fujifilm or sony brand CDR before. HP is so-so (or was last time I used some), but over-priced.

I have had bad experiences with verbatem in the past, but that was back when 2x CDR was a big deal. Almost all of one of my packs was miscoated. I will knock it up to a small factory issue though and not a brand thing. I haven't tried anything of theirs recently.

I use Memorex and PNY typically. I prefer the ones with the black coating myself (helps protect against scratches). I have never had a problem with disks from either of these two brands.

. BTW, i use samsung's DIGITall premium recording disc. It burns at 48x and only cost 3 cd's for $1. I think it pretty damn good especially for the price, beside that i never had a problem burning with it.

I used Memorex and working on get through a pack of cd-rs from office max (At the time I need cd-rs). Out of about 40 cd-r from Memorex, 3 died and I have to reburn the cd. And for the office max ones I think I burned 30 cds and only 1 or 2 were bad and I had to reburn. Overall I haven't had much problems with my cd-rs.

When you say 3 died, do you mean you had burning errors and had to be reburned imediatly, or do you mean over time they died?

I've had some bad things with memorex...I think 13 of them ina pack of 50was screwed up....

I'm using verbatim right now and they don't seem to bad nothing has gone wrong so far, but I'll find out soon enough.

The TDK brand is cruddy, it works well on my PC but badly in my CD player. And Kodak CDs are icky as well. Otherwise, I have had no problems with Memorex, Imation, Sony, no-name (no labels at all... it comes in a 100-pack)

I use Memorex religiously and have not had one single bad burn as far as saving video/mp3/data files. For straight play for music or video (playing in my car or dvd player), I use Sony.

Tried TDK once due to it's low price, had two bad spools (50 each). Never again.

It burned fine....... but after about a few days they stopped letting me watch the anime on them. Something like a format error or something like that. The data was fine so I had to copy it on my hard drive and reburn it. Nothing massively bad. And it wasn't my player either cus I try it in a different player I have.
I like those office max ones. I bought them $13 for 100. So it doesn't matter too much it they screw up.

yeah, it really sucks when the burned anime goes into nothing, i think i've tried a lot of brands as of now, but aside from the CD-R disks, the program you're using also counts. nero tends to give me more trouble than roxio and veritas.
anyhow, just steer clear of Optimum, Imation and Memorex in the most part. I recommand Maxell--i'm surprised no one mentioned this one, Phillips and Verbatim. i've almost never had any problems with these, esp. Maxell, not a single bad burns from this brand. but it's like really expensive compared to the other brands. worst come to worst, just buy a dvd burner, i like dvd-rws, i get to replace the old files if better editions of the show have been done, plus, they almost never 'die'.

Wow most of you buy bundled cd-r's and then find out that you wasted your money and are stuck with the messed up cd's. But as for me, i buy 1 cd of anybrand (thanks to a locol computer store which sells them by the cd's or bunch), and test if its good or not. So far the cd-r that i using now is by far the best i ever seen or used, and you can refer to my last post to see what it was.

for both CD-Rs (700MB "High Speed Recording) and DVD-Rs (4.7G "for Data") I'm using Imation and having no problems. The reason I chose Imation was because they were the cheapest here. The reason I chose DVD-R instead of DVD+R was the same reason (cheaper).

IMO, if you are in the market for a CD Burner, you might as well look at a DVD Burner instead. Last time I bought a CD Burner was when they cost $200, and now DVD Burners are just over $200. So from my point of view, I was paying about the same amount for more capacity.

Thank you.... If I get enough money I'll buy one. Right now I'm going to buy a roughy $200 video card.

Then I have to buy a new hard drive next month.

Hi there,

my friend taught me a little about cd-rs, you have to make sure what cd manufacturer made the cdr you bought.

read this article here to know more about it

there are links to threads about which cd manufacturer is good at the bottom of the article

i personally trust prodisc only (but that doesnt mean that all cdrs made by them is good. I used to have some very cheap prodisc cdrs but because the dye is too thin or somethin, it came off after 1 month!!! i guess its you get what you paid for!!!)

a quick way to find out your cdr manufacturer is
put the blank cdr in
run your nero burning rom
click view
click recorder
click media info, media info window pops out
hold shift key and click refresh, the manufacturer name should pop out
