Because you would be at a disadvantage of connecting strategies.

I see. But speaking of which, what's exactly the gimmick of Aiichi's deck? Attack, Attack, Attack?

Usually the protagonist is always like that. Yugi was pretty much the same thing, he just had an ace that was recognizable. Aichi has two aces, both of which aren't so awe inspiring.

That's the only way Aichi knows how to play right now. But I expect that'll change as he becomes exposed to other gamers' strategies. He seems very astute at picking up and adapting other gamers' methods for his own use.

I don't recognize the new grade 3 dude, but wasn't the card Blaster Blade present in the other series?

Aichi is a beginner, so it'll take some time for him to utilize better or more complex tactics.

I didn't pay much attention to Duel Masters rules but the restriction there was that you can't summon a creature if you don't have a card of the same color (fire, dark, etc) in your mana pool. This was done so you wouldn't have all the colors without some sort of restriction. It was somewhat similar in Magic where lands offer a specific color (exceptions exist) or WOW ctg where you can't have both Horde and alliance in the same deck. I see no restriction in Vanguard so far

In magic you had cards that require a certain number of lands of two types and so forth, or say 2 light and 3 of any type, I think (haven't touched it for a while). What's confusing me the most in this game is the numbers. Adding all those numbers seem like a real ordeal. Having a hard time following who's at a advantage because of it...

I assume this grade 3 will become an ace of his. As for another series, this is the first CardFight series.

No I mean Yu Gi Oh, or one of the others.

So far nothing too much, but there have been a number of hints.
Many creatures' effects only work when the vanguard is of the same type. pairs of Wyverns that gain attack power when assisting each other, etc...
So it looks like it's possible to play with a heterogeneous deck, but the downsides are pretty high.

^ Yeah, I guess that can be a fine restriction on its own. I mean, Goblin King in Magic was a fine card if you had lots of reds in your deck

So wait, if Aichi had gotten a different clan grade 3, would he have not been able to activate its effect?

Also, don't you play a grade 0 from your deck? I think in the first episode it was explained that way.

I've just re-watched the first episode, and I noticed that both of them had placed down their Grade 0's before Kai drew 5 cards though.

Ah, you know you're right. The actual dialog in the scene was ambiguous...

Lol the anime did a blunder on the pilot episode?

Also, was the booster pack he bought of the same clan as his deck or was it a mix of all the current clans?

Misaki said he was lucky that the grade 3 in the pack was a Royal Paladin, so it sounds like the booster packs are random mixes of all the different types.

Whether that's actually what will be sold, I don't know, but that seems to be how it is in the anime.

I suppose that encourages trading and having people play diverse types.

I would think they would have the same boosters in the show than as in the actual game. Even Yugioh did that in an episode where they used booster packs. In Yugioh however, there was no indication of it involving money.
