Summary: A girl asks her mother a tough question.

The little girl ran to her teacher and tugged on her hand. "Mummy's here! Mummy's here!"

"I'm sorry for being late, Mrs. Aston," the woman said, bowing slightly as she took the girl's bag.

"Let's gooooooo!" The girl said, grabbing hold of her mother's arm.

The woman smiled and led the girl out as the latter waved goodbye to her teacher. “How was school today?"

"We, erm," she looked skyward, lips pursed in thought, "we learned about animals! Big ones!" She spread her hands wide. "Like the, the," she wrung her hands around her head, "lion and the," she lowered her head to her right arm and crossed the other over it, "array-fund-"

"Elephant, dear."

"-And the, and the..." The girl trailed off. "Mummy, where's daddy?"

The woman stopped abruptly and squeezed her hands tight.

"Mummy? Mummy? What- ow! Ow!" Tears started to well up in the girl's eyes.

The woman jumped in surprise, having forgotten that she was holding the girl's hand, and let go, twiddling her fingers nervously. "I... I'm very sorry, dear! I... didn't mean to..."

The girl squatted and leaned against a nearby wall, rubbing the affected hand as she bit back tears. When the woman tried to hold her close, the girl pushed back feebly. After a while, she managed to look the woman in the eyes and say, ""My friends talked about our daddies and mummies and," she gestured at herself, "when it was my turn, I, I didn't know what to say."

The woman looked pained. She had been told that the time would come when she would need to speak of the issue with her child, but she had not expected it to be so sudden and soon.

"Your father..." The woman started hesitantly, rubbing her hands together, "was a great man. He helped save the multiverse twice."

"Mao-tie-verse? What's that?"

The woman paused to consider this. "You know how we're on one world? Out in the multiverse, there are many, many worlds. More than you can count."

"Er..." The girl blinked rapidly, trying to take in what she had just been told. "Many, many more?"

The woman smiled in approval of her child's understanding. She would go far. "Yes, dear, many more. I'll be able to tell you more when you're older, okay?"

"Okay!" The girl nodded rapidly, grinning widely.

"Anyway, about your father..."

"Yes, mummy?"

"Your… your aunt was in big trouble."

"Big...?"

"Your aunts and uncles, along with mummy, helped to save her. However, the problem would come back."

"... Oh."

"The only way we knew to solve it for good was-"

The girl's eyes filled with horrified comprehension. "For daddy to go away?!" She asked, half-shouting, causing a few curious passers-by to glance at them.

The woman looked back at the girl, sparkling tears slowly streaming down her face.

"Mummy? Why, why are you crying? You keep saying that, that good big girls don't cry."

The woman sniffled. "No, sweetie. Mummy was supposed to be the one to go away."

"What?!" The girl clutched her mother's arm to herself a little too tightly. "Why?"

"But your daddy... He decided to go away himself rather than let me." She sniffled again and reached up with her free hand to wipe the tears away. After a while, she managed to say, "Now, let's go." She helped the girl to her feet.

The girl was silent for much of the rest of the walk, but when they were almost home, she suddenly said, "Mummy, do you have any pictures of yourself and daddy?"

The woman considered this for a moment, then reached for her phone and called up an image.

It was of Reinforce and Yuuno.

The refusal to use names was a deliberate ploy to leave you readers wondering who I was referring to until the last. I wrote this with a Yuuforce Bad End in mind, where instead of going in to save Rein years after the end of the Incident, Yuuno chooses to take Rein’s place (however that works) but leaves a… memoir behind.

Anyway, a while back I had the idea of what would happen if the Nakajima Numbers took on Mythbusting. I finally got around to doing something with it, and here's a snippet.

Of course, it wasn't quite that simple. While we waited to get Bureau approval for restricted materials use, it was time to do a little digging. We sent Cinque to visit our favorite research librarian, her having a reputation as the 'sane' one meant that she got away without a lifetime ban after our last trip.

But that's not important. Wendi and I, as always, took a more direct approach.

"Ok, what we have here is half a dozen JR-17 Mk III Mid-childian style focus staffs," Wendi announced, dropping a box nearly as long as she was on the heavy steel workbench. “Standard issue until about 15 years ago when the intelligent devices first started becoming common again. Not quite as smart as the -23, but just as good on the power handling side. Plus, they're already cartridge compatible, so they can handle the load spikes we're going to generate if this works at all. This is about the best we're going to do without doubling our budget, I think."

"Sweet deal. But why six, was there a volume discount?"

"Nope," the other cyborg shook her head, turning one of the weapons over in her hands. "But if you think we aren't going to break a few of these over the next few days, you're dreaming."

And going thru 700 pages of backlog.

I was just wondering how Hayate got the reputation of being a perv and into cosplay and how Nanoha got the reputation of being a bit dense when it comes to emotions.

I know Fate got something stuck on her as well, but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

I was just wondering how Hayate got the reputation of being a perv and into cosplay and how Nanoha got the reputation of being a bit dense when it comes to emotions.

Hayate dressed up her Knights when they were introduced to her. What they use as Barrier Jackets is what Hayate designed for them. Her pervertedness stems from a incident in which she felt up / groped Signum and Shamal. Plus she sleeps with Vita.

Nanoha is dense because she has all these people gunning for her (Yuuno, Fate, Subaru, Vita), yet she seems completely ignorant of it all.

I know Fate got something stuck on her as well, but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

Lesbian completely obsessed with Nanoha, despite the latter's utter lack of interest (or notice, for that matter) beyond friendship. Fate wants/believes Nanoha to be her wife. Nanoha is a lead brick to this amorous attentions.

Well, the 4komas started during A's. It mainly stemed from Fate being psycho lesbian and Nanoha having no idea what Fate's strange actions meant.

Otherwise Nanoha's only dense if you avoid eye contact

Anyways, I wrote something starring Lutecia and Erio.

“Aaaah, that was a great bath!” Lutecia declared as she entered the kitchen.

“Welcome back, dear.” Her mother greeted. “Where are the others?”

“Probably still there.” Lutecia said. “I just got out early. I wanted to see if I could help with anything.”

“No, we’re fine here.” Megane smiled. “Erio-kun has been a great help.”

“Really?” Lutecia turned to the boy who was stirring a pot on the stove. “Thanks, Erio.”

“It was nothing.” He replied dismissively.

“Well then I guess your reward will be seeing me in all my just-got-out-of-the-bath glory!” Lutecia teased while striking a pose.

“Er… Thanks, I guess.” Erio chuckled sheepishly.

“What kind of reaction is that?” The summoner puffed.

“Now, now!” Megane laughed. “Why don’t you two kids go and get the others from the baths? Dinner will be ready shortly.”

“Ok!” Lutecia nodded. “Let’s go, Erio.”

“Me too? But…”

“Oh I’ll be fine on my own for the rest of it.” Megane assured him. “Go on now.”

Being attacked from both ends, Erio didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. He complied and followed his friend out into the night air.

“So how do you like things so far?” Lutecia asked as they made their way towards the bath.

“It’s been great.” He smiled. “As expected of Lu, you really went all out.”

“Hehe,” Lutecia puffed out her chest as if to say ‘praise me more’ before continuing. “I’m really glad you could come. I know how busy it can get on the preserve.”

“We just had to file the proper paper work and our leave was approved pretty much straight away.” He shrugged. “The rest of our department is more than capable of handling things without us.”

“It’s always a lot of fun when you get to come.” She smiled. “Garyuu and the others just love hanging out with you.”

“Garyuu has always been a great sparring partner.” He grinned. “I love hanging out with him, your mom, and you too of course.”

“I’ll bet.” Lutecia smirked. “Especially at times like these when you’re the only human male amongst a huge groups of cute girls.”

Erio laughed awkwardly at that. “I guess I am the only guy here, aren’t I?”

“So? Which one are you after?”

“Huh?” Erio balked. “What are you… I’m not…”

“Come on Erio, you’re a teenaged boy surrounded by girls!” She jabbed his chest with her finger. “One has to strike your fancy.”

“Er… well…” His face darkened and he looked away.

“I bet you imagined what it would be like to have joined us in the bath, didn’t you?” She continued prodding with a smirk. “So, who did you want to ogle the most?”

“Lu…” He almost pleaded her to stop. If anymore blood rushed to his face it might cause him to faint.

“You know I won’t stop bugging until you tell me.” She stuck out her tongue. “Hm, you always act so friendly with Subaru, and I know how much you admire Fate-san, or is it the obvious choice, Caro the midget?”

“Lu…”

“Or…” Lutecia reeled back in mock shock. “You’re not into Vivio and her friends, are you?!”

“No!” He gawked at the implication. “Of course not!” He then sighed in defeat. “Fine I’ll tell you… The kind of girl I like is one who’s always full of energy and is cheerful no matter what. She’s the kind of girl who looks after others and you always have fun around her…”

“Hmm…” Lutecia hummed thoughtfully as she hopped onto a nearby rock. She turned to meet his eyes. “So it is Caro after all.”

“No, Caro is like a sister to me, I…”

“I know that.” She smirked. “If I didn’t, then I would never do this!” Lutecia surprised the boy by grabbing his shoulders and pulling him towards her. Their heights were equalized by the rock, so she had no trouble pressing her lips against his.

Erio’s eyes bulged while Lutecia closed hers until she broke away from the kiss.

“How was that?” She asked.

“Wha… wha…” He stammered.

“You’re so cute when you’re flustered.” She smiled before moving her gaze beyond his shoulder. Erio slowly turned to see where she was looking. Behind him stood the crowd of girls that were walking back from the bath, all of them with either stars in their eyes or blushes on their faces.

“WHA!” Erio jumped away. “How long have you all been there?”

“Right around when it was mentioned how friendly you are with me.” Subaru grinned.

“Way to go, m’lady!” Sein whooped.

“Wow, Lu-chan is so bold!” Vivio beamed.

“You better treat her right, Erio.” Nove warned.

“Who’s a midget?!” Caro huffed, putting her hands on her hips. “Just you wait! In a few years I’ll have such a dynamic body…”

Erio groaned. He wanted to be happier about this outcome, but did she really have to do that in front of everyone? He glanced at her and she gave him a look that reeked of angelic innocence.

“… That’s my Lu.” He smiled despite himself.

From the beginning I'd say Erio was the only viable partner for Lutecia, considering how StrikerS turned out (I guess Caro/Lutecia is also a possibility). Sure I did do some ViCia, but that was for some one else, and considering what happened with that, I'll probably never write ViCia again. If I ever pair anyone with Lutecia again, it'll be Erio.

I never followed the 4komas, so I mostly just assumed that Nanoha was potrayed as romantically dense in fanworks because she was such a workaholic in canon. And that's also part of where my characterization of her comes from when I write about her, more from the show than the 4komas.

“It’s always a lot of fun when you get to come.” She smiled. “Garyuu and the others just love hanging out with you.”

“Garyuu has always been a great sparring partner.” He grinned. “I love hanging out with him, your mom, and you too of course.”

“I’ll bet.” Lutecia smirked. “Especially at times like these when you’re the only human male amongst a huge groups of cute girls.”

Erio laughed awkwardly at that. “I guess I am the only guy here, aren’t I?”

“So? Which one are you after?”

“Huh?” Erio balked. “What are you… I’m not…”

“Come on Erio, you’re a teenaged boy surrounded by girls!” She jabbed his chest with her finger. “One has to strike your fancy.”

“Er… well…” His face darkened and he looked away.

“I bet you imagined what it would be like to have joined us in the bath, didn’t you?” She continued prodding with a smirk. “So, who did you want to ogle the most?”

“Lu…” He almost pleaded her to stop. If anymore blood rushed to his face it might cause him to faint.

“You know I won’t stop bugging until you tell me.” She stuck out her tongue. “Hm, you always act so friendly with Subaru, and I know how much you admire Fate-san, or is it the obvious choice, Caro the midget?”

“Lu…”

“Or…” Lutecia reeled back in mock shock. “You’re not into Vivio and her friends, are you?!”

“No!” He gawked at the implication. “Of course not!” He then sighed in defeat. “Fine I’ll tell you… The kind of girl I like is one who’s always full of energy and is cheerful no matter what. She’s the kind of girl who looks after others and you always have fun around her…”

“Hmm…” Lutecia hummed thoughtfully as she hopped onto a nearby rock. She turned to meet his eyes. “So it is Caro after all.”

“No, Caro is like a sister to me, I…”

“I know that.” She smirked. “If I didn’t, then I would never do this!” Lutecia surprised the boy by grabbing his shoulders and pulling him towards her. Their heights were equalized by the rock, so she had no trouble pressing her lips against his.

Erio’s eyes bulged while Lutecia closed hers until she broke away from the kiss.

“How was that?” She asked.

“Wha… wha…” He stammered.

“You’re so cute when you’re flustered.” She smiled before moving her gaze beyond his shoulder. Erio slowly turned to see where she was looking. Behind him stood the crowd of girls that were walking back from the bath, all of them with either stars in their eyes or blushes on their faces.

“WHA!” Erio jumped away. “How long have you all been there?”

“Right around when it was mentioned how friendly you are with me.” Subaru grinned.

“Way to go, m’lady!” Sein whooped.

“Wow, Lu-chan is so bold!” Vivio beamed.

“You better treat her right, Erio.” Nove warned.

“Who’s a midget?!” Caro huffed, putting her hands on her hips. “Just you wait! In a few years I’ll have such a dynamic body…”

Erio groaned. He wanted to be happier about this outcome, but did she really have to do that in front of everyone? He glanced at her and she gave him a look that reeked of angelic innocence.

“… That’s my Lu.” He smiled despite himself.

From the beginning I'd say Erio was the only viable partner for Lutecia, considering how StrikerS turned out (I guess Caro/Lutecia is also a possibility). Sure I did do some ViCia, but that was for some one else, and considering what happened with that, I'll probably never write ViCia again. If I ever pair anyone with Lutecia again, it'll be Erio.

I spend so much time reading (and writing) Shadows!Lutecia that it's kind of refreshing seeing her in her actual canon-per-ViVid personality. She's cute in "flirty" mode.

(But what about Garyuu/Lutecia, continuing the Erio/Caro parallel? Where's the giant bug love? )

Eh, they stopped being funny after awhile since it's all the same gags over and over again. Each character is given an over exaggerated trait (like Fate's stalkerness or Ginga's clumbsiness or Vice's voyeurism) and that trait is about the only thing that gets any focus. Gets old really fast.

Ah, don't get me wrong, I read a couple of the StrikerS based ones. I just never got all that interested in them from what I was reading because reusing the same old gag again and again can only stay funny for so long, IMO.
