Simple. Just because YOU wouldn't follow such a leader doesn't mean medieval knights wouldn't. Remember, chivalry, honor, purity, ect was valued far more than things like glory or material gain. What chivalrous knight wouldn't follow such a person?

She was truly the King of Knights.

Second... I think the confidence change occurred at the very end of her journey when she became a Servant. It wasn't until she looked back on everything and wanted to change it that her confidence changed. And charisma is a little different from confidence anyhow.

I think the biggest problem rider had with saber is that she wants to turn her past into nothing. For rider, who place utmost pride on people who fight alongsde him, saber's wish is an insult to all the loyal knight who share her dream an fight with her up till the end, something that saber can't comprehend because she's too perfectionist

Yep, she doesn't seem to have a great regard for her people's opinions and feelings in his point of view which is really selfish and petty of her (ironically).

Just a view here. Alexander do not look down on Saber's kingship. He is disappointed in her as she wants to undo her history, which at the same time denies the histories of the people that had served her. He finds that bad. other than that, he is okay with her but and agree to her ideals, as a way how a hero should be but not how a kings should act.

For Gil, it is simple. They left out the part that he announced that Rider will be killed by his hands. This is respect as he calls him 'Rider' and not mongrel at all. For Saber, he just enjoys trolling her and look at her as some sort of toy than the real opponent. The only person Gil holds with respect in both grail wars is just Alexander.

You just need to look up his generals. Many of them are famous historic figures. A few of them went on to be kings.
