I don't know about u guys but do you find Hayate's character seems to be very similar to Keitaro from Love Hina?
1. Both are 'Invincible' 2. Both study hard but tend to fail or just manage to scrape through 3. Both have that same 'poor face' 4. Both get physically abused by the main female lead in some way or another 5. Both are dedicated to their 'call of duty' and often causes point 2 6. Both have the same kind of resolve when faced with difficult tasks I can think of more but cbb typing them in. I guess that's why i'm drawn into Hayate No Gotoku in the first place. Love Hina was one of my first anime's to follow and it's similarities of the main male protagonists just work with me. Actually, is there a name for this 'type' of character? ^^ |

Big difference from Keitaro and Hayate is that Hayate is almost always optimistic despite growing up from such a shitty childhood, while Keitaro was indecisive and whiny for all of the show except for the very end when he 'grew up'.
Don't shoot me if I remembered it wrong though, since it's what, half a decade since I last touched anything resembling Love Hina? But that's the impression I got from my hazy memory.

i wonder where hayate gets his "always look on the bright side of life" attitude from...couldnt have been from his parents and with that im even going as far as to say that he was adopted

Yea I dont think you'd ever see anyone swooning over keitaro cosplaying in full nekomimi...In fact I dont even want to imagine such a thing...
The big difference I can see between hayate and most other harem leads is you can actually understand in your head why so many girls would be interested in him...Hell he even wins over guys with his forced cosplay and trap status. God knows I watch enough anime and when I try to think on mind a good character to compare hayate too I come up with about...zero. I won't go so far as to say he's entirely unique, but he has at the very least always been enjoyable to watch and never once irritated me with his behavior.

But Hayate is actually the main character of his show.
... and he's not a pervert either. HnG is a reverse-harem, where the female characters all draw attention to the heroic attributes of the male lead. Compared to LH (or any harem show) where the male is an anti-hero whose actions draw attention to the females and their attributes. So, when Keitaro got the snot beat out of him, we cheered for Naru (or whoever was doing the beating). But we feel sorry for Hayate when he's abused, and cheer when he wins a fight. (Something Keitaro rarely did, and almost always by accident.) |

well this is where i have something wrong with my brain beacuse in ZnT if Louise and Saito en together i would ok and yeah that is the correct pair but here i just would not feel the same way id see something wrong with it, maybe because Nagi is much younger than Hayate and i don't see him falling for her as I do see Hayate falling for Maria or Hina which are around is age. And he already has a thing for Maria so some big drastic event has to unfold for that to happpen, if you ask me Hayate and MAria are more suited for each other in many different ways but the biggest thing is they both sorta come from the same background of being abanded by their parents. And if Nagia keeps acting that she is right know Hayate will only look at her as a little sister and from what i've read in the manga nothing really changes with her

if only.....if only
I wasn't a big fan of Nagi to begin with, but shes really growing on me. Would i mind a Hayate X Nagi ending? not sure yet still rooting for a Hayate X Hina.....altho that said Maria is my fav character.

Yeah, I'm with Siesta in ZnT. Going further back, I'm with Yoshida in Shana. And here, I'm 'anyone but Nagi' in this show. Lol, see a connection? Harmony all the way!
(And yes, my last sentence means more than one thing. XD)
