This is terrible news. I am often out of the loop due to not having a TV. I am really sad that this has happened again so soon after the first one. I shall be donating again to help the country that has brought me joy, entertainment, and games for all of my life.

No damages yet, everyone better start praying for them.

My fingers are crossed that there won't be any further damages. The country's already suffered enough after March 11. It's a good sign if the Tsunami warning was lifted shortly after it was triggered, but it also shows they're on high alert in case something does happen.

That is good, I am really glad for that. I can imagine the fear and distress they're feeling though. So soon after the initial earthquake.

Um, there have been several HUNDRED quakes in Japan since the tsunami, many in the 6-7 range... just saying.

Quote:
Japan experienced over 900 aftershocks since the earthquake, with about 60 registering over magnitude 6.0 Mw and at least three over 7.0 Mw. A magnitude 7.7 Mw and a 7.9 Mw quake occurred on March 11[66] and the third one struck offshore on 7 April with a disputed magnitude. Its epicenter was underwater, 66 km (41 mi) off the coast of Sendai. The Japan Meteorological Agency assigned a magnitude of 7.4 MJMA, while the U.S. Geological Survey lowered it to 7.1 Mw.[67]

This is being covered in the existing thread for the tsunami and after effects.

This is what happens when news coverage is sporadic or the news is noticed sporadically.

Oh I hope Japan will be okay. It's still tragic even though it's only been 6 months.

Reposting this from the Japanese Culture thread :-

Honest Japanese return $2.3 Billion Yen in cash found in earthquake rubble

At least the Japanese had something unique to be proud of here. Unlike the Americans after Katrina or the British recently....

Its one of the examples of how people are NOT the same the world over. There are fundamental differences in cultural underpinnings.

Like I said earlier, I don't want to know what kind of $#!+ will go down in LA if (or when) a quake of this size goes off in SoCal. There hasn't been a truly large one down south for over 150 years, which is why local geologists are a bit worried. The one saving grace is that the most dangerous faults around here are on land, so no major tsunamis.

Hey, people also refused to leave Centralia, Pennsylvania (a ghost town whose fate was sealed by a coal mine fire; said to be the inspiration for Silent Hill); it's only fitting that someone would stay in one of Fukushima Prefecture's doomed towns.

I noticed that too, what gives? What are they going to do with that large boat in the middle of the street?

I'm wondering if that is the photographer's van and he's using it to line up the shots. or if the first two were before and the third was after and the van is slightly moved (meaning it runs) but put back to help identify the exact spot.

That could be. In the first shot it's on a road and not covered with junk.
