but just like the Sith Academy, there's actually a lot of luck and other factors involved. So the last person standing isn't necessarily the one who has say.. 99 points in every stats.

If he loses to the protagonist it doesn't mean the instructor is weak. It just means that the main character is even more of a special snowflake.

The protagonist isn't even the lead chef but the girl he was trying to flunk. That makes him pathetically weak, and degrades the entire worth of graduating from the school.

Doujima gave Souma a good reality check. Megumi needs to break out of her shell and prove herself, and this is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Shinomiya is bad with women? That might change once he foodgasms on Megumi's dish

Even renown people of religion and politics will throw away everything in order just to taste his food. And this is just my guess but I think that his dad actually an alumni drop out. He drop out maybe because there is nothing to learn anymore or maybe he met his wife their and they elope. maybe that is the reason he sent Souma in that school in order for him to find that special person who will taste his cooking that was in his dad letter.

I'm quite sure Souma's dad is the current final boss of the series. Depending on how well the sales and questionnaires go, the author might be adding another final boss instead of his old man.

Don't forget that 99% of the time the main villain/first antagonist is introduced in the very first few chapters
