Holy shit, that was amazing. Having Yu be his new game + self was a brilliant idea. It makes all the content that was already covered really fresh. I'm loving his more confident and charismatic personality. I wonder if there's going to be a in-universe explanation for this. Like, maybe he was thrown into the past during the final fight.

It looks like the Golden is going to skip through the material that was already covered to get to the new content. I'm totally fine with that. In fact, I wasn't keen on watching a remake in the first place, so I'm glad it didn't turn out to be one.

I haven't played the game, although I do own the original, or watched the original anime so I came into this completely blind. I'm now wondering if I should at least go watch the first anime. I liked the first episode, even though it did feel like it was rushed a bit, but from people's comments things might make more sense if I do.

Also "new game+" is that what happens/what you get when you beat the game once and then play through again?

it's better to see Persona 4 The Animation's first
since it was 26 episodes while this one only 12+-

Yes, at least watch the original show first. This really works better as an extension to the first season and not really as a standalone title. I would also say to play the game, it's rather accessible and the story is better explained there (the first season in particular rushed over the side-characters social links).

Thanks, for the replies. I'll try to watch it between now and the next episode for this one.

I think...either way, you have to watch this because added new chara is HanaKana's tsundere girl.

I'm anime-only too, but I've seen The Animation so I'm not bothered by the hop-skip-jumping through the covered material. And yeah, it's great fun to see Yuu so cool and outgoing.

Dang, that was an awesome first episode. Yu kicked so much more ass compared to the first series! But I do think the the way he says 'Persona!'for the first time in the original was more forceful.

And I love the way the music was all smooth when Marie was reciting her poem and then it cuts off all of a sudden when she looks at Yu! XD

I was planning on watching this, but wasn't really sure what to expect since I knew this was going to be based on the Persona 4 Golden game. I was pretty curious to see how different Golden was going to be from the original and after watching the first episode, that difference is Marie.

I knew she was a new character introduced in the game and had a very important role, but I didn't quite expect the anime to throw her right into our faces. The first episode really didn't work for me because it was trying to introduce all the characters and plot elements, while also set up Marie as a very important character. The result was a very rushed, disjointed episode that felt like it was showing two different shows. If I hadn't watched the original and game, I would have been very confused on what's going on.

That being said, I generally enjoyed Marie as a character. I was surprised and delighted to find Kana Hanazawa voicing her. Plus, Marie is tsundere, so hearing Kana play her was great.

The Izanagi scene was also pretty great too. Probably the highlight of the episode for me, the action scene was pretty well animated and the music was awesome as well. My only concern is that they may have made him look a little too powerful, which sets the bar pretty high for any future battle scenes. But if they keep up the quality, then kudos to the studio.

Will probably give this a couple more episodes.

You never watch a sequel before watching the first season, so why should you watch P4GA without having watched P4A in the first place?

The Vita hasn't been hacked yet so there's no way to touch the files. Short answer: no.

P4GA is technically not a sequel, and more of a different retelling of the first anime. Also, I did watch the first anime when it came out.

I'd say it's a pseudo-sequel, since we're in new game +. Anyway, watching the first anime is a requirement.

Yeah, I would have watched it either way, but I would have probably just skipped to the new scenes. Not interested in watching the same thing twice.

You don't get into NG+ without complete the game once before, so yes this is a sequel.

Well essentially yes, but also you get to keep certain progressions from your previous run in the beginning, like your levels, items, power-ups etc. hence the "+"

I think our definition of a sequel is very different. A sequel to me is a continuation of story, which is why Arena is more of a sequel to me at least. P4G is the same basic story with new elements, which does make it more of a new game+. Anyways, yeah I agree with everyone, you definitely needed to watch the first anime first.

So Yu is now on his how many play through now? 3rd? 4th? That Izanagi is Lv99 with all the OP spell learnt. I love that Yu is more outgoing and chose all the joke/high requirement answers .

Marie is such a cute tsundere
