Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen to air on Japan's YTV this fall
This year's 34th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine will announce next Wednesday that an Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen (Inuyasha Final Chapter) television adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's manga has been green-lit. The anime will broadcast on Japan's YTV this fall and cover the story in volumes 36 to 56 of the manga — the final 21 compiled book volumes. The original staff and cast will reunite for the new anime adaptation.
Nice to get confirmation even before the magazine release. Now the countdown commences.

Wow.

26 eps would seem a bit lean for 20 volumes - I wonder what the length of run will be.

I don't know what it'll be - that's why I wondered how long it would go.

Well there were around 20 some episodes per season with the first Inuyasha series, so 26 doesn't seem like a bad estimate. Although I think it would take more episodes than 26 to cover whats left of the manga.

Except there were 6 or 7 seasons with the majority of episodes coming from 36 volumes of manga. Fillers obviously not included. So, assuming this new version doesn't use any fillers, with 20 volumes to work with, I'd say that's a solid 70 or so episodes. Should be anyway.

yeah im hoping for at least 3-4 episodes per volume so 70 sounds about right, plus the inevitable filler episodes which I will estimate to be around 15-20 for the duration of the revival

There shouldn't be any filler episodes, considering the anime no longer has to worry about catching up to the manga.

There shouldn't be, but my pessimistic side says that there will be.

The reason fillers exist is mostly (perhaps entirely) because of that.

They've been running some excellent one-shots of older series in Sunday and other Shougakukan manga magazines, and this was one of them.
For those who missed, there was an awesome Ushio & Tora one couple weeks back.

All the money made from tankoubon of these "Heroes Come Back" campaign volume will go towards the 2011 Earthquake relief.

It isn't even out yet, but I've already disowned it as non-canon. How can Kagome and Inuyasha's daughter go for years without seeing her parents? Are they dead or what?

It could be that something happened to them and they went missing as a result. Perhaps the same reason that caused everyone to forget Towa.

I wonder if Rin is the mother of Sesshomaru's children.

^black hair and white hair and both half demon twins having golden brown pupils should be enough to know the identity of the mother. So, let's wait for more elaborate visuals. Wait for the colour of the pupils.

He wasn't known for being fond of any human but her. I highly doubt he suddenly decided to start dating random human females.

Interested in seeing how this will go on,

seems like the new theme of mangakas right now is to focus on the kids of previous main chars.
