They're classifying it as a sequel not an update, so it'll have a completely separate physical release from the first game which is scheduled for a Japan release in summer next year.

it's a sequel. P4U's story's continuation, New characters, New stages, Character Balances.. etc

Persona announcement from a few days ago confirmed the console release to be at Summer 2014. It also hinted Adachi to be playable. He has a vs portrait (only a silhouette for now) and a sprite (the scene with Yukari before meeting Shadow Chie)

since the arcade version still space left for 1 character (it'll probably Sho with a persona, but as a separate character like S.Labrys. If not, it'll be Adachi and Sho with Persona can be played as his Shadow mode.)

I think the console version would have more characters though (at least I wish it'd have more
still crossing fingers for P3MC and or Margaret)

So Sho is essentially housing a plume of dusk containing another soul inside his body or something? I guess it's perhaps the Malevolent Entity's soul, but there's still some things that need to be elaborated on a bit more, like why it even needs Sho's body as a "host" in the first place.

Interesting that Sho is Sun arcana too. We haven't had a major character with that since Tatsuya from P2. Tsukuyomi is the moon deity in Shintoism though, and likely Moon arcana, so I get the feeling it's not Sho's true Persona but rather one that belongs to the other soul contained in his body.

They've seemingly teased new P4U2 characters in the preview for the next episode of Persona Stalker Club coming out on the 25th, and apparently P4U2 will be in next week's Famitsu; we'll probably get verification of this rumour very soon (as in next week).
