Based on the light novel/manga of the same name.

Here's the synopsis:

The story begins with Blaze — a weapon that is the manifestation of a human's soul. Tōru Kokonoe happens to be qualified for this, but for some reason his Blaze is not a weapon, but a shield. I think this was just a matter of time tbh. I knew this would get an anime adaptation someday. Studio is also confirmed to be 8-bit.

Macross Frontier was by Satelight. 8-bit did Tokyo Ravens, Walkure Romanze, Yama no Susume. They are also making Grisaia.

[(Rewatches MacFron OP) Okay, so it wasn't by 8-Bit. But who the hell or what the hell series am I remembering that 8-bit did that disappointed me? It also had mecha in it, and no it was somethign other than IS.

I can imagine, though in this case its probably more a matter of attitude from the user, manifestation of the soul and all.

I really thought asterisk would be animated first than AD, but still glad to see another MF's title, hoping it won't be butchered (Sensou).

Me too. Don't worry. Compared to Sensou, the plot is relatively simple and straightforward, but even if they stay faithful this is gonna be painful to watch.

It seems pretty faithful to the art style of the source material... But maybe that's just me? Then again, capturing the style accurately and looking "cheap" aren't synonymous. I'm not really sure what a "quality" design for a series with a plot this utterly generic should look like, tbh.

Now, who would be the ideal voice for Yurie? I nominate Sumire Uesaka seeing as she knows Russian, or the voice of Shiori from 11eyes would work for me.

Unfortunately it seems like according to 8-bit's official website, it's still confirmed to air this year.
