Gundam mecha v/s Mecha from other series...
I like the Gundam series...in general...and the mecha too...08Th MS team..Gundam Wing...the orginal series line..etc...in general....but I would like to compare the mecha design and capabilities to my fav mechs from Robotech...to me alll the gundam mecha carry a lot of fire power and armor but the robotech mecha posses greater manuverabilityand other advantages....so ur take fellow gundam and mecha geeks...

Well, we really can't compare both series towards each other.... The difference is just too wide. I am a Gundam fan, but let alone that Macross's Valkyries designs are awesome. I love the idea how a single mech could change into 3 different types of forms to match with the terrain.
Anyways, if your talking about abilities and being agile, Valkyries could be faster due to their size. However... If you get a pilot who is a NT, let's say.. Amuro Ray... Chances of making a big mecha like the RX-78-2 move beyond it's limits is possible. Near the end of the OYW series, there was a EP which showed the RX-78-2 joints overheating easily and couldn't follow up with Amuro's movements anymore... So the pilot can be a crucial factor towards pushing the mechs to it's limits.... (Remember, the RX-78-2 is not a MS specifically made for a NewType) But... the Macross SDF when it becomes the Attack Mode is truly powerful. Always wanted to see the Ra Calium's hyper beam cannon or ZZ's hyper mega Beam cannon vs the SDF's cannons (which I have forgotten it's name..) That would be awesome.... |

Valkyries could definately out manuver all but the most technologically advanced and powerful Mobile Suits.
Firepower, on the other hand, I am unsure off. All Valkyries have are gunpod rifle things, While Mobile Suits have Rifles, Gattling Guns, Vulcans, Beam Sabers/Heat Hawks, ect ect. Of course, Firepower means nothing if you can't hit a Target. Its a toss up, and would come down to the better pilot. |

As for armaments, it's a tough call. Newtype weapons like Funnels would probably frustrate a Valkyrie, even those with Reaction Missles. (Char shot down like 10 nukes in Char's Counterattack...) And I think Super Robot Wars has always rated the mobile suits' weapons with higher damage ratings, on the average, than a Valkyries'. In my opinion though, an Orbital Frame like Jehuty from Zone of Enders would romp on both Valkyries and Gundams. =P |

Some series I remember that involve mechs other than Macross are:
Patlabor Nadesico Front Mission(not an anime series but good mention) Evangelion(probably too advance) Hmmmm...can't remember any other series those above are just some I remember. Patlabors' technology seem a little outdated compared to the other series but should compare great against the Mechs in Front Mission. From what I learnt from Super Robot Wars is that Valyrie's the armor is much weaker than Gundams but make up for their speed. |
