It's hard to balance between things. More so when there are so many distractions and the backlog threatens to drown you.

Too many people underestimate staffs, and think it's a lousy weapon. Used right, she can turn bladed weapons away. Or she can use a barrier if someone closes in, Barrier Burst, and get back to a distance where she can start nuking again. There are lots of strategies for her. Though sometimes you might feel that melee is essential, you can always work around it with what you have. That said, making her at least not such in melee and to at least know how to use it to deflect attacks is not a bad idea. (whoa that came out longer than I thought....)

Reminds me of what I have planned for the fight with Katrina wielding her staff, Mastema, in the works. Sad to say it's even further along than others.

At any rate, here's the final two scenes of and the ED for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Alpha. This is Episode 1: My Magical Incantation...

In the Takamachi household, the front door opened. Inside stepped a tall figure, draped with long blonde hair and wearing a tight black uniform. Closing the door quietly, she took off her shoes and walked up to the couch, where Nanoha slept with the Sankt Kaiser report tucked between her head and arm. Sighing, the blonde walked past her and up the stairs, heading for Vivio's room. Knocking gently, the woman slowly opened the door. "Vivio? Are you awake?"

There was no answer. Peering in, the woman couldn't help but smile. Vivio was asleep, using an arm as a pillow with the other stretched across the desk. Amidst the chaos of her room, Vivio was the pinnacle of peace, a whirlwind that was abated. Walking slowly up to the girl, the woman pushed gently on Vivio's shoulder. "Vivio, wake up... mama's home."

Vivio stirred, slowly. Opening her eyes, she looked up to the soft and gentle face of her mother, Fate T. Harlown. A small smile came to Vivio's face as she sat up and stretched. "Uwah~ ...hi, Fate-mama..."

"Just a 'hi'?" Fate asked, acting hurt and standing up straight, looking away. "After not seeing me for all this time? Mou..."

"Oh, please, it was only for two weeks," Vivio said, standing up and nearly tackling Fate, giving her a tight hug. "...but it's still good to see you, Fate-mama." Fate's heart warmed at the gesture as she returned the hug. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you, too," Fate told the girl. "You and Nanoha-chan." Vivio stiffened a bit in Fate's embrace, but said nothing. "Are you two still not getting along well?"

"Well it's only been a month," Vivio said as the two let go. The younger girl grabbed one arm with the other as she stared down a bit. "I mean, I am trying, Fate-mama, I really am... but some days, I just get so frustrated..." I want to be a good girl to my mothers... but there's something...

"I understand," Fate nodded. "When... some things happened, a long time ago, I latched on to Nanoha, but at the same time I found it difficult to really trust her, though I'd never admit it. Enforcer Training actually helped me solidify my feelings for Nanoha, and I definitely trusted her after I got out of that hell." She smiled and put an embarrassed palm to her face. "Oh, my, I'm saying those things that embarrass you again."

Vivio smiled back. "It's okay when no one else is around, Fate-mama, you know that." Putting a finger to her lips, she thought for a bit. "Hm... when do you leave again?"

Fate's expression darkened a bit. "...Three days," She sighed. "I'm to help Kha's unit on another world... something about hunting a violent criminal and fighting off monsters of all things." she chuckled. "Sounds like something out of a bad thriller, ne?" Vivio snorted a laugh at that. "I'm sorry I can't stay longer, Vivio."

"It's okay, I understand," Vivio replied almost too quickly. "I'm just glad I can see you while I can."
"That's good," Fate nodded. "I know things have been difficult these past several years, but together, we can all build something better. I can see myself and Kha, Nanoha and-" Fate blushed and stopped herself. "Oh, nevermind." When Vivio tilted her head and gave her a questioning look, Fate rapidly changed the subject. "Eto... how about you get started on dinner, and I'll wake up Nanoha?"

"Uh... sure," Vivio said, seeing through the weak effort. She nodded nontheless. "I'll get to it."

Together, the two walked back downstairs, Vivio slightly trailed behind. Fate and Vivio got along far better than Nanoha and Vivio; the two kept some form of contact over the years, as sometimes Fate's missions would send her off for months at a time. As Vivio's home life spiraled downward and out of control, taking her with it, Fate was one of the things keeping her from jumping over the edge.

But there was a wall; Vivio knew it, and she wasn't sure Fate did - but the two would never really be as close as they would like. Years of nothing but letters and phone conversations would do that. They could laugh, talk, and love each other dearly... but Vivio would never tell Fate of her days at school, or how she was feeling, or anything like that... well, not willingly.

Vivio, lost in thought, made her way to the kitchen and grabbed some veggies to make dinner with. Without any clear indication on what to make, she instead focused on a particular vegetable and listened in on the conversation behind her as she cut it.

Fate knelt at the side of the couch, gently pushing Nanoha's shoulder. "Hey, Nanoha-chan... time to wake up..." The body stirred, slowly, much like a tired adolescent, as Nanoha slowly rolled over, her uniform wrinkled as she moved about on it. Slowly, Nanoha opened her eyes and stared dully at Fate. "Ah, hello, Nanoha-chan."

"...hello, Fate-chan," Nanoha said quietly. "It's nice to see you again." Nanoha smiled in such a way that Fate couldn't tell if she was forcing it or not. "How... are things?"

"Same as usual," Fate told her, grabbing one of the Takamachi woman's hands and squeezing it gently. "How are you? Feeling any better?" Nanoha shook her head. "Worse?"

"..." Nanoha didn't answer, instead staring at the report in her hand. "Eleven years..." she whispered. Fate sighed. "What?"

"Why do you have to stare at that, every night?" Fate asked her. "Why do you have to remind yourself of that?"
"..." Nanoha looked away. "I... I don't know... because when I do... it lets me know that..." she shrugged. "There's nothing I can do..."

"I just... don't get it, Nanoha-chan." Fate stood up. "Because of one thing, you let yourself go... do you even care about her, anymore?"

"I do!" Nanoha blurted. "Really! I... But I..."
"Ow!"

Fate's head snapped up. "Shit..." she cursed under her breath, nearly toppling over herself to check on her daughter. Nanoha simply continued to lay there, her mind shutting down by reflex.

"It hurts!" Vivio whined. The knife she was using to cut with lay on the kitchen floor, spattered with blood, as Vivio's own right index finger bled rapidly, a clean cut along the top from just below her fingernail to just above the middle knuckle. Fate opened the cabinet and tossed stuff around, searching quickly for a bandage while simultaneously handing Vivio a clean dish towel.

"Apply pressure," she said. "It'll stem the bleeding till I find- ah!" Finding a set of large bandages, she pulled them out and ripped one open rapidly. Taking Vivio's hand, Fate wrapped up the finger with the bandage, applying pressure on it as she did. "We might need to take you to a doctor, Vivio; that's a large cut." she told the girl. "Are you feeling alright?"

"I... I think so..." Vivio stared at her finger as Fate let go, sighing with relief. Staring at the bandage, she couldn't help but feel amazed that Fate had literally dropped the conversation to help Vivio, despite being such a small part of her life. "Fate-mama, you didn't-"

"Oh, bother," Fate chided, patting her daughter on the head. "Look, I'll make dinner, you relax, okay?" Vivio nodded, looking ashamed of herself. "Look, Vivio-chan, it's nothing to be upset about, okay?"

"I... I guess..." Vivio sighed. "Hey, I'm gonna call one of my friends before dinner."
"Okay. I'll shout for you when its ready."

Vivio turned and walked out of the kitchen, cradling her injured finger and wondering why had she done what she did. When she had heard Nanoha's cry that she did care about Vivio, it was like... like something snapped, the young mage decided. Like she needed to see if Nanoha was telling Fate the truth. So she raised the knife into the air and-

Vivio's eyes met Nanoha's.

Nanoha's were full of fear and regret.
Vivio's... were simply disappointed. Huffing, Vivio stalked back up to her room. Nanoha watched the girl go before burying her head under her hands, disappointed in herself. In the kitchen, Fate sighed, feeling the tension behind her swell. I'll help them fix things. she vowed as she began dinner preparations. Even if it's the death of me, those two will reconcile, and we can close this chapter of their lives. They're my family, too!

TSAB Headquarters, Unknown Room

"It appears that things are nearly set."
"Indeed."

A room of the HQ cloaked in shadows. Only the lights of monitors and a faint blue glow emanating from a shard of glass hanging from the ceiling illuminated the room. Within the room, six figures draped in Barrier Jackets shaped like cloaks sat on a hexagonal table, each one a different color.

The green one spoke first. "The outbreaks are getting to the point where we can't contain it."
The blue one was next. "So what? Let the Spawn spill out. The chaos may serve our purpose in the long run. If we can bring it out sooner, then all the better."

"There's still a problem," The violet one interjected, bringing an image of three familiar girls. "These two, Takamachi and Yagami, may pose a threat if they find out."

"You can forget about Takamachi," One in white said. "But Yagami is powerful, and Georashi is also a threat..."
"Indeed, as is Testarossa's daughter," An image of Fate was brought up. "I will compile a list of other threats to our Project."

"Very good," Their leader said: a mage cloaked in yellow. "Project OMEGA must go off without a hitch if we are to acheive total control," Looking at one of the others, he said, "Do you have it?"

"Yes, sir," The one in brown answered, pulling out a cage. Inside, with gnashing teeth and bound arms, an Infection Form hissed at the group. "We are in the process of studying it. If we can control the Abomination..."

"Then we will be one step closer to acheiving our goals... and it will be ours!" The one in yellow said. "The Belkan Prophecies spoke of the mythical City on the Hill, and soon, with the help of the monsters and Project OMEGA, we will be crowned its kings!"

"...or better than kings... Gods."

The tone does get darker with chapter but I'm liking it all. Vivio cutting herself to get Nanoha's attention, who is still unable to overcome the events of the past. Still, makes for better conflicts and drama later on. And traitor elements within the TSAB? Not good.

It's interesting to look at the under-used characters sometimes. My attempt at un-shafting, in this case Lutecia. It's nice to see my portrayals of Lutecia felt natural at least.

EDI was already over three kilometers away and bleeding off speed by the time Fate turned to his departure angle.
"I have buzzed the targets," he informed. "Begining engagement procedure."

"Roger that," Crash snapped, dropping into a dive and configuring a little more attack power with his MAD system. "They got barriers up, so your run didn't knock them out of the sky like we wanted."

"Their temporary Tinnitus should last perhaps a minute," EDI toned. "I advise we hit as hard as we can now, since we won't have a second oppertunity."

"Already in a dive," Crash informed the AI. "I'm going to engage unit LIGHTNING, she's specialized more for close combat, so I should stand a better chance in my heavy armor than your airframe. You take STARS unit."

"Affirmative," EDI responded.


Crash was almost on them, the switching to full auto, he quickly took aim, EDI bled off the last of his speed in a high G turn no organic lifeform could have managed and came around hard.

"Here they come!" Fate shouted.
"WHAT?!" Nanoha shouted back. Hearing loss was a pain...
'Here they come!' Fate responded again, this time psychicly.
'Oh,' was Nanoha's mental reply.

EDI and Crashed opened up at once, unleashing streams of moderately effective magical bolts.

[SONIC MOVE!]
[FLASH MOVE!]

Nanoha and Fate bolted in opposite directions just before the stream of attacks hit. EDI immediately calculated trajectory and chased after the pink contrail. Crash managed to keep his eyes on the yellow contrail left by Fate's departure and tracked his weapon along her trajectory, but she quickly outpaced his ability to lead her movement.

"You're not getting away," Crash muttered to himself. Battery redirected energy to speed and he accellerated, thundering up close to supersonic as he chased after his target Ace.

Nanoha came through a cloud in a dive, bolting through several thousand feet as she evaided fire from behind. EDI had locked on, and engaged in twin rotary cannon fire, sending quick bursts of orange magic at her, with a snap turn, she evaided, but the super-fast calculations of the AI controled aircraft weren't as predictably easy to fool compared to the drones Jail had used.
Going fully evaisive, she dove straight down towards the water, EDI following in her high speed dive.
They broke the sound barrier as she dove. Inertia meant she would be able to stop sooner in a little game of ocean chicken than the drone chasing her.

EDI calculated that among many possible end results of the dive, and decided not to let her get that position. His underside internal bay snapped open and the rotary rack spun into position, and deployed a weapon mechanism. In two seconds it formed an orb of orange magic on the forward end.
"HORNETS NEST," he droned.

'BAM!'

Nanoha barely heard Raging Heart over the ringing in her ears, but the shout of warning was enough. With a fast glance over her shoulder, she spotted eight fast moving orange streaks diving at her in a corkscrew as EDI pulled out of his dive.
Nanoha, in her surprise, almost forgot the water below her, but instantly came up with a counter move. Pulling out of her dive to skirt the water close enough to send a jet of spray into the air, she shot paralelle to the waves at high speed, throwing up a barrier behind her as the orange shots arced to follow her path. Three of them arced too shallow and exploded against the water in towers of spray, the remaining five slammed into her barrier with a little more force than she expected from an unmanned magic vehicle. Above, and still slightly behind, EDI prepared a second volley, intending to knock her into the drink.

Thinking fast, Nanoha deployed a barrier directly into the water, creating drag, and slowing her down rapidly enough to cause EDI to overshoot. Nanoha brought Raging Heart to bear and launched her counter attack.

[AXCEL SHOOTER]

In her oppinion, THIS was how you did multi-shot attacks

"SHOOOOOOT!"

'BAM!'

Sixteen pink streaks blasted from Raging heart into the sky.

Calculating the trajectory of the shots, Edi immediately pulled back, and began to roll, corkscrewing through the air in a loose, high speed, barrel roll. She shots missed and began to twirl in an attempt to hit the MADCAP. Nanoha's excelent control of them meant that even this evaision would fail eventually, but EDI accounted for that. As the first one managed score home, it smacked against a barrier that flickered up just long enough to deflect it. EDI broke his corkscrew and came around hard, losing most of Nanoha's shots again while a second one scored. Gunning the engine power, he accellerated directly at the stationary mage, unleashing another firestorm of magical energy from the twin cerberus IIs at the stationary mage.

'SNAP!'

[BUSTER MODE, DRIVE IGNITION]

Raging Heart discharged a cartridge as Nanoha took aim at her target, her barrier shimmering from the hundreds of weak magical bolts that pelted it.

"DIVIIIINE..."

But then she noticed EDI's internal bay was open again and the rotary rack deployed. There was a brief glow and suddenly an orange beam lashed out at her. Perhaps a low powered buster of his own.

[FLASH MOVE!]

Raging Heart got her out of the way as it tore past her, and she quickly retrained her staff to attack...
Then EDI broke off, and she realized there were still a good fourteen bolts from her Divine Shooter attack chasing him, and now they were coming right at her... Clever decoy tactics, but Nanoha had absolute control of them, and they broke their chase and traveled right around her before she willed them away.
Coming about as the Drone Hunter thundered past her, she brought Raging Heart to bear again, getting a reassuring pink glow as she began to prepare her specialty once more. Bands of magical markings appeared at the end as she steadied her aim to take down her target.

"Deploying Iron Curtain," EDI droned in acknowledgement of the magical energy spike he detected. He needed immediate defense from this attack.

'CRACK!'

Nanoha paused from her shot to assess this new threat. A single red orb had just launched from EDI's upper midsection. Why was it so familliar?

'CRACK!'

One became two.

'CRACK!'

Two became four.

Then she remembered. It looked just like-

'BOOM!!!'

With a roar and a blinding flash of light, Nanoha's chance of tagging EDI with her Divine Buster evaporated instantly.

(Song Fade and Pause at + 2:15)

"Wait, that's MY technique!" Vita shouted. She practically would have pounced on the MSM display showing EDI rocketing for the upper atmosphere with Graf Eisen, if Signum hadn't managed to clamp a hand down on her fellow knight.
"It may have been your technique," Cooper stated from his own chair. "But I IMPROVED IT!"
"As if..." Key sniped, but Cooper kept going.
"The new version there is called the Iron Curtain, producing an order of magnitude more light and turbulance for the same amount of magic, making it more effective at blinding the opponent for a longer period of time over a wider field of view."
"And what's with that corny name?" Vita glowered at the chubby engineer.
"Because in Soviet Russia," Roland interjected, balling his fist. "Spells name YOU!"
Everyone in the room, including the Maidens virtual resprisentations, simply glanced dumbfounded at the Major General. Tough audience tonight. He glanced at Fox, who silently rolled her eyes before he waved it away.
"Earth Joke."

(Instrument track solo mode, song drum beat only.)

Nanoha blinked away the tears that had formed in her eyes in response to the temporary flash blindness. The ringing in her ears had redoubled in intensity from the roar, and she could feel the magic boost from her cartridge already dropping away, completely wasted. This battle may just turn out to be quite fun.

'Fate,' she broadcasted telepathicly. 'Keep your eye out for EDI, he can launch Vita's Iron Howl, and it splits up.'

'Where is he now?' Fate broadcasted back.
'I lost him for the moment,' Nanoha responded. 'I think he was heading up. How are you doing?'
'Crash isn't half bad actually,' came the response. 'Sloppy, but fast reflexes.'

She leaned in and shot forward as a orange beam twice as wide around as she was tall slammed into the waves from above her, blasting a collumn of water a hundred meters into the air.
'Nanoha?'
Putting on as much speed as she could, she managed to clear the attack as it was followed up with another cluster of eight orange streaks.
'Nanoha?!' Fate's telepathic broadcast was slightly more urgent.
'I'm still in the game,' she responded. 'EDI just tried to snipe me with a full power buster.'
'At what range?'
'Beyond Visual.'
'BVR? NICE!' Fate seemed pleased. Nanoha looked off to her left as the telltale thump of a sonic boom gave away EDI's position. She could see a glint of sunlight off something moving through the cirrus clouds at ten thousand feet, and immediately took off after it.
'I'm reengaging the MADCAP,' Nanoha broadcasted.
'Roger,' Fate returned.

So I've encountered another problem with writing my story, which is that I need to refer to some things which have, shall we say, inconvenient names.

Specifically, the Turing Test. (I might include the Drake Equation or the Kardashev scale later.) Basically, concepts and ideas which have a specific name set to them, but which should technically only make sense on Earth, as opposed to Midchilda.

This goes into rather basic things, sometimes: Newton's Laws of Motion. Murphy's Law, and the technically "correct" Finagle's Law. Hanlon's Razor. Occam's Razor.

I can think of four ways to deal with this:

• Use the name anyway. This completely ignores the problem of how a random person on Midchilda can use a term from the 97th Non-Administered World and have it understood by the other random person he or she is talking to.
• Use a made-up name. This makes more consistent sense, but is jarring and requires me to describe the concept at least the first time, so the reader knows what I'm talking about. This is also rather smeerp-like.
• Explain the concept every time I bring it up. Unwieldy and exasperating.
• "You know, there's a term for this on the 97th Non-Administered World..." How the heck did so many things on Midchilda develop in parallel to ours and not have an equivalent or close basic principle? Also, to avoid playing favourites, I have to come up with more terms for the other worlds; otherwise it would seem that Earth is the only planet with any sort of codified scientific knowledge.

I'm not happy with any of the choices. Currently I'm using choice one (using the names anyway, and pretending that it's a "translation"), but it just makes no sense.

And I think I'm dropping those that need control. I'll be using aim=>shoot attacks.

I'm sure some spells casts inherently faster than most, and don't require extra channeling or catridges. So I guess its alright to say she can cast say, Divine Buster, at the same speed Nanoha can.

Maybe...

Too many people underestimate staffs, and think it's a lousy weapon. Used right, she can turn bladed weapons away. Or she can use a barrier if someone closes in, Barrier Burst, and get back to a distance where she can start nuking again. There are lots of strategies for her. Though sometimes you might feel that melee is essential, you can always work around it with what you have. That said, making her at least not such in melee and to at least know how to use it to deflect attacks is not a bad idea. (whoa that came out longer than I thought....)

Caro, Princess of Voltaire

Caro Ru Lushe (キャロ・ル・ルシエ, Kyaro Ru Rushie) is a character in Kha the Cleric's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: Rebuilt of StrikerS. After much encouragement from Kha and some steeling on nerves from herself, Fate T. Harlaown became her guardian after sad circumstances left Caro with no place to live. Wherever she goes, Caro is usually accompanied by her pet dragon, Friedrich (or Fried, for short).

She is a kind and somewhat timid girl and, just like Erio, has little sense for matters of life that most people would see as ordinary. Caro hopes to become a magical doctor like Kha or run a health food shop, which no one encourages overtly. She and Erio in Fate and Kha’s absences look after the young and powerful Allison Ford, who was formerly the priestess nominate of the Tome of Life Necro’omnicron.

Caro is known for taking long baths (up to 3 hours), collecting shopping catalogs and, ever since meeting Liana of the ATX team, experimenting with health drinks.

Her health drinks, like Liana, have earned some degree of infamy, in that while very healthy and capable of curing most ailments (as well as restoring energy), their taste leaves much to be desired, and they often cause the drinker to faint. Even manly men, like Kaempfer, Smith & Wesson, Ingram Prisken Aurion Dauer, and Master Wodan, have been laid low by her concoctions.

Her health drinks can restore energy even when it is not drunk: When one of Caro's health drinks were offered to Vice during a battle he vows he would rather die than drink it and began fighting harder.

There are only four people known to withstand this dreaded beverage: Kha (who’s taste buds are non-existent), Friediche, Yui Hiro, and Mai Enna.

She is named for either the Mazda Carol or the FSO Polonez Caro.

Caro in StrikerS

Native of the TSAB-administrated world No. 6, Alzas, Caro was born under the nomad-like "Minority Tribe" known as Lu-Lushe. Since very little, she was taught the tribe's traditional summoning arts: the "Dragon Summon". Caro exhibited a rare talent to the craft, to the point that she could already summon two powerful dragons by the age of six. This frightened the elders of her tribe however, who believed that her power would attract misfortune, and lead them to banish the girl.

This has had tremendous effect on Caro, who is has developed a fear of her own powers, right to the point of sometimes hallucinating that there was an irremovable blood stain on her right hand, the hand that she empowers to call upon Voltaire the Black Dragon Lord.

Sent to stay at a TSAB's HQ-attached special protection facility, Caro had a life of many restrictions and few liberties imposed upon her. This would have gone on forever, had she not met with Fate T. Harlaown one day by pure chance. After hearing about Caro's past, Fate decided to take her in and become the girl's guardian. Similarly on how it was with Erio Mondial, the circumstances prevented Fate and Caro from living together from the beginning. Instead, the girl started to live and work at a wildlife preservation area in the TSAB-administrated world No. 61, Supools, where she discovered that her talent as a summoner also helped her to deal with all sorts of animals. Caro remained there until the day that she was invited to be part of the Mobile Division 6.

She met Wang Liu Mei who was “holidaying” (she was actually looking for a secondary forward base for Celestial Being in the Core Worlds) in the area just prior to the beginning of Operation StrikerS. For the first time in her life, Caro discovered what luxury was, but Chao observed that the more Caro found herself to like it, the more she tried to withdraw from it.

Although talented, Caro is held back by her inner demons and still has much to mature as a mage. At the beginning of StrikerS, she was "C+" ranked, ground-based summoner that had little to no control over the dragons that she invoked. Caro eventually overcame this flaw after her ingression in the Division 6 and, after being assigned to the Lightning Squad under the sign-name of "Lightning 4", soon became a reliable member of the Forward Team. She seems to harbor romantic feelings towards Erio.

As Voltaire has a companion spirit, Ampere the White Tiger Queen, Caro would eventually choose Erio to be Ampere’s master.

At the end of the series, Caro goes back to TSAB-administrated world No. 61 and continue to work at a wildlife reserve.

Powers

A user of the Mid-Childa magic system, Caro's area of expertise is known as Summon Magic. Specifically, she is skillful at summoning and controlling dragons (hence the name Dragon Summon). Furthermore, she is quite proficient at Increase-type Support spells. Taking that, plus her blatant handicap for direct combat (she is highly dependent of her summoned dragons in order to be functional) into consideration, Caro was assigned to the position of Fullback of the Forward Team. Like most users of Summoning Magic seen so far, Caro possess a Boost Device named Kerykeion.

Defensive Abilities

Active Protection - Caro's variation of the basic Protection magic. It seems to be more tuned to defend against attacks from a single direction.

Barrier Jacket - The primary defensive measure of most mages. Caro's Barrier Jacket possesses a white cape that is very similar to Fate's and she wears a white hat, giving her a very stereotypical “mahou shoujo” look.

Wheel Protection - Similar in principle to Nanoha's Active Guard, a pair of wings appear on Kerykeion's jewel and conjures a magic typhoon that repels a target that is far away.

Booster Protection – A defensive shield that reduces the effects of AMF on a target.

Offensive Abilities

Blast Flare - Not a real spell, but actually Fried's inherent fire-breathing ability boosted by Caro's magic. Its power is nothing remarkable, but it would be expected of a auto-shot type attack.

Blast Rain - A variation of the Blast Flare used while Fried is in his true form. Unlike the original, Blast Rain is very strong, with a destructive power in par with an AA magic attack.

Shooting Ray - One of the few offensive spells in which Caro herself attack the enemy, two wings of light appear over Kerykeion's jewels and turn into one magic beam each.

Wing Shooter - Another of Caro's personal attack magics, multiple magic bullets are conjured and shot at the enemy. Akin to Fate's Plasma Lancer, the bullets can only be directed towards the target but not controlled during flight.

Summons

Dragon Soul Summon (竜魂召喚, Ryūkon Shōkan) - In order to keep Fried always by her side and, at the same, time have his true powers available when necessary, Caro makes use of the Dragon Soul Summon spell. With this magic, she can seal away Fried's real form and strength and then temporally summon them back when they are needed. On a side note, Soul Summoning is very advanced summoning spell known only by a few experts.

Dragon Mount Summon (竜騎召喚, Ryūki Shōkan, Dragon Mount Summon) - The magic that summons Alzas' guardian dragon: the Dragontiger Lord, Voltaire. It is important to be aware that Voltaire is an ancient creature of great power that only allows himself to be summoned when there is real need to.

Wrought Iron Summon (錬鉄召喚, Rentetsu Shōkan, Wrought Iron Summon) - This spell allows Caro to summon, transmute and control any inorganic matter on the nature. Although not restricted to it, the form of a chain is Caro's favorite and she dubbed this variation Alchemic Chain. She was once praised as being very skillful and imaginative in the usage of this magic. And when Caro is attempting Wrought Iron summons, the magic circle she calls upon, the chants and hand-claps involved are a heavy nod to the Alchemists from Full Metal Alchemist.

Rockbell Arm – Caro creates an arm’s gauntlet of magical steel for Erio to wear over his left arm, allow him to block attacks with it and strike with his other arm. Caro can further transmute parts of the Arm to add a massive blade to its cuff, or summon other parts and gizmos that can be mounted onto the arm.

Support Abilities

Boost up, Ready - Caro's and Kerykeion's exclusive Increase-type Support magic. Each variation raises only one single and specific attribute.

Enchant Word: Acceleration - The target's speed is increased.

Enchant Word: Barret - Increase the destructive power of a target's ranged magic. It does not help the attack penetrate certain defenses like an AMF.

Enchant Word: Strike - As the name suggests, the target's striking power for melee attacks is increased.

Enchant Word: Fortitude – Increases one's physical defence.

Enchant Word: Shield – Strengthens one’s barrier defence.

Enchant Up: Field Invade - This spell is similar to Kha’s Blessing of Sauctuary, but instead of a solid defense, this spell grants the target the capacity to penetrate a Field-type magic defense (such as AMF) and negate its effects.

Enchant Up: Energy Boost – Like Kha’s Blessing of Energy, this magic allows Caro to assist another mage in her spellcasting.

Physical Heal - Basic healing magic, it is meant to treat minor injuries only.

Spell Program Advance – As each spell is a magical program, using Kerykeion’s built-in mechanic, Caro can cast two “Boost Up” spells simultaneously, which then stack and meld into a totally new spell of power greater than the sum of the lesser spells. This only works from stacking the correct spells in a proper sequence. However, as this stacking is governed by the spirits of the runes in magic, it is usually due to trial and error, and the experience of other mages to learn a new program advance.

Caro knows of 1 Program Advance, and later found out 2 more. She is experimenting to discover more. Erio encourages Caro to try finding more Spells and Program Advances, both to increase her capabilities in battle, and to keep her busy from making health drinks.

Slash & Strike – Made by stacking Energy Boost with Enchant Word: Strike. It increases striking strength and cutting capacity.

Total Defence – Made by stacking Enchant Word: Shield and Enchant Word: Fortitude. This allows Erio to use Lightning Shield and tank a hard blow without being forced backwards, and then return the favor with Lightning Shield’s strengthened orbs.

Gun X Sword – Made by stacking Enchant Word: Barret and Enchant Word: Strike. Caro used on Erio, allowing him to shoot and hit much harder at the same time. Erio uses this spell for daring swings, like rappling down on an armored target, using the shots to severely weaken the target’s defense before finishing with a slash.

LIMITER BREAK: Princess of Voltaire

A mark of a great summoner is the closeness he/she is to her chosen guardian, and the best summoner and summons fight side-by-side as one unit.

After summoning Voltaire, Caro gattai’s with Voltaire, entering via his back and into a plug-like cockpit, while changing her battle costume to a more skin tight version, as seen being worn by this person. This gives Caro the ability to share knowledge and boosts with Voltaire and at the same time allow Voltaire to protect Caro, allowing him to focus fully on the prey. And he needed to, as Lutecia did the same.

As the pilot of Voltaire, Caro can help Voltaire with whatever tricks she picked up from watching Kha and Erio practice, allowing her to wrestle Lutecia’s summons to the ground twice. They also gain access to several new skills:


Rastaban Beam - Energy beams are launched from the eyes, after Caro stammers the spell “Ra-ra-ra RASTABAN BEAMUU!!!”

Laevanteinn– Voltaire summons his blade from his tail by yelling, “Howl, Laevanteinn!”, then charges to attack.

Fire Breath – Voltaire blasts the enemy with fire.


Caro knows that Voltaire has a companion spirit, Ampere the White Tiger Queen, and after growing to trust Erio, she and Voltaire agree to choose Erio as Ampere’s bearer. However, the boy has to win the capricious spirit’s favor before she agrees to be in contract to Erio.

Voltaire noted that, at the end of his battle as he was returning to his astral plane, he commented that Caro had grown much stronger than when she first called him to make a contract, and someday, he hopes that she can use Dragon Soul Summon on bigger things. This makes her recall that Voltaire had another form, which the Elder called Shin-Voltaire, and she promised to the vanishing creature that she’ll strive to attain that, so he could once again “Voltaire can dance his dance in the sky.”

Later, when Erio proved his worth to Ampere, Erio, Caro, Ampere and Voltaire can gattai into a powerful, summon creature that no living person has seen, and that the Lu-Lushe villagers call by only one word out of sheer reverence:

Jin.

Whiffy.

It's official; Lightning Squad is my favorite, with Kha's waifu Fate (), Lamia Signum Loveless, Kha's little boy Erio and the non-Tomino talented female mecha pilot summoner Caro!

They have trained in tatics and combat but reading about them fight is more like a experienced earth soldier who learnt the ropes of magic combat later. Even with their backgrounds of having lived on earth and being combat personnel at one point or another, I don't see the TSAB implementing routines and practices that would mirror earth so closely, even with some of the examples shown.

BTW, all modern sentai females have skirts. The Power Rangers series just turned the male yellows into females so the ported-over footage had most yellows look like guys because the original japanese suit actors were guys...>_>

Here's Aurion's relationship data with the Stars Forwards from the revamped profile... This is filled with a little crack and my own little take at the latest chapter of the manga, except that this happens after the final battle...

Subaru, despite herself, was sent to the floor laughing over the ‘Large Ferret!’ tactic that Aurion used to defeat the then younger Nanoha, much to the Ace of Aces’ chagrin.

Teana – One of the first two forwards he met during his visit. Out of the four prospective Strikers, she was the only one who knew who Aurion was prior to the visit. Interestingly, Aurion showed more interest in Teana than in any other forwards. This is mainly due to their similarity in styles, illusion magic coupled with range attacks. He actually took her aside for a few minutes and told her that if there is time, he is willing to teach her more about illusion magic and tactics, citing her as one of the more unique young mages he knows since he only knows few other mages who uses illusion magic. Teana was delighted by the offer. She was skeptical about Aurion’s rumored victory over the four Aces, particularly over Keroko, her idol; which Subaru exploited to drag her along the ‘Aurion Dauer Combat Capability Investigation’ plan despite Teana’s reservations. In the end, she actually felt quite proud that Keroko was defeated thru ‘sane’ means, accepting the gap in experience of several years ago. She tried hard not to laugh on how Nanoha and Fate were defeated, but was encouraged by Keroko to not hold back, much to Nanoha's further indignation. Several months after StrikerS, Teana had already learned a few tricks from Aurion, as well as several tactics of applying her illusions properly in her attack plans.

Actually, none of Ala Altra even know they are Ala Altra. >_<

In a sense, it's kinda Aurion and Zerstro had a short stint together by chance of Aurion being a temporary technician and Zerstro going undercover TSAB somewhere where it wouldn't stand out which was unknowingly caught up in something and they helped each other out for a while.

And since they're never actually seen together in the TSAB camp TOGETHER all of them at most 2 at a time... since all of them are in different departments, so all sightings are out in the field. Though some people involved know which is supposed to be Ala Altra, no one ever found out who all the members are.

And all that myths and rumors bloated up their 'supposed' existence into a small legend in that particular world, which is later made even more popular there by a supposed 'true story' with input by people in that conflict (( and some not )) which dramatizes the whole story in the novel "Tales of Black Wing" aka "Ala Altra Fabella."

If/when Aurion found out...

Hayate is almost an all-out range attacker. As opposed to her usual nukes in most engagements, she uses Bloody Dagger and at times, Tesla's Blitzschlag in attacking one-to-one. I've been thinking about it a lot. And I've theorized that she is actually good, if only to be compared to normal people who don't fight in battles instead of Knights who are specialists. So she should already have knowledge to begin with, plus a year of improving upon it with Tesla's help. Is it fine if she actually does better than higher-ranked grunts at staff-fighting?

Physical Defense/Stamina:
She's rather fragile physically, since that's to be expected from her role. Not to mention completely lazing out of her physical training ([sarcasm]Um, hello? Do you even so much as STRETCH in the morning?! Push-ups?![/sarcasm] I know she's the Butaichou there, as well as being limite to A; [which, for all it's worth, held no value other than to write her out effectively off all save two battles {the last one being a lovely chock of vidclips showing Hayate floating around and nothing more}], but c'mon!) in StrikerS while everyone else sans Shamal (nurse/doctor) and Zafira (butler dog) were into so much training every single day for an entire year! But she's still in better shape than most normal people. (You just don't jump down from the top of a vehicle like it was nothing, like shown in StrikerS ep. 2) I'd give her some stamina as well; hopefully within reasonable bounds. I do hope it's fine if I said she's physically tougher than Shamal.

Magical Defense:
Here's the clincher in my story. No matter how much you say you lack in skill and dificulty in processing magic, having a crapload of mana while having weak magical defenses = DOES NOT COMPUTE! Does she really have a hard time tapping into her power so much that she would need an incantation for casting a simple shield?! I sure as hell don't think so and I'm totally not buying it until canon states otherwise. So in my story, her natural magical defenses are very good and hard to crack; at least requiring A-ranked (think Thunder Smasher of loli-Fate without cartridges) or above attack power to so much as properly hurt her minimally. Is it fine?

Tactical Ability:
Okay... She should be at least smart enough to last against even someone like Tesla for a while. I do hope nobody finds any problems with this. She actually sees thru a number of Aurion's battle plans in the fly.

Mana Capacity:
Need I say more?

Speed and Agility:
I'll give her good speed, but not good agility. So flying in a linear path should be no problem while high-speed maneuvering is not good enough so she should compensate with her defenses.

Spellcasting:
I gave her Tiara, so she now has an access to some spells by voice command ala-Reinforce. It's fine, right? Tiara's AI is passive, not unlike the original YnS so there should be no RH or Bardiche-like auto-saves for Hayate. Her spellcasting should be marginally better now as well, but she won't compare too well against Aurion since he can cast spells FAST.

Reminds me of this RPG I used to play when I was still a newbie.

"Lightning Two to Long Arch. Requesting status report on the other squads.”

Lucino was quick to sound her reply.

“Long Arch to Lightning Two. Captain Testarossa has secured Jail Scaglietti’s hideout. Lightning Three and Four are there as well.”

“Stars One and Two are still inside the Cradle. Commander Yagami entered shortly awhile ago but communications have been cut off for some time now. Stars Three and Four are en route to the Cradle to conduct a evacuation and rescue operation if necessary.”

“I see." A slight pause before Signum took her next inquiry. "What about the summoner? Lutecia Alpino?”

“She’s been taken into custody by a squad from the 108th battalion after being secured by Lightning Three and Lightning Four.”

“I shall proceed towards the Cradle then. They might still need my help there.”

“Roger. Long Arch out.”

“Let’s go Agito. We are needed elsewhere.”

Stirrings in the dead of the night. A pair of bleary red eyes slowly came to life as an unfamiliar sight greeted her.

The ceiling. Why though?

Realization slowly crept in. Lying on a bed certainly afforded her such a view though she was none the wiser why she was in a bed. A wrecking ache to came to her as she tried to recall events before. It was almost as if her body was protesting for her effort to remember, her head screaming the loudest in particular.

Grimacing, Lutecia blanked her mind. For now, she had to be content about her totally unknown position and the events as to how it happened.

Though the weight resting on her right side did erase enough of that contentment to let her take notice of her surroundings again.

Shifting her half-closed eyes to the side, she made a silent correction to herself. Weights, as there were a pair of figures on her bedside. A boy with flaming red hair and a girl with pink, both to be around her age and clothed in brown had shared her arm as a pillow and were fast asleep at her bedside.

Erio and Caro. Was that their names? She had fought them earlier on..but how early had that been? A day? Two maybe? She couldn't tell amidst her hazy mind though memories were slowly trickling in.

Slightly annoyed, she left her arm as it was. She had no intention of waking up the two, even if they might be able to answer her questions.

Moving her eyes in a slow arc from the sleeping pair, she noticed enough to note that the room had been arranged to instill a feeling of peace and tranquility, suiting for rest and comfort as she was enjoying now.

Lutecia would have pondered more but she was suddenly taken by how very worn out she was feeling.

Her body was wailing at her for rest even as her mind worked. It was a losing battle of course. Mentally sighing, Lutecia pushed her thoughts into a corner, that some of them would be addressed the next time she awakes. Without the accompanying headache.

Two flutter of eyelashes before Lutecia joined the two by her bedside in blissful sleep.

Morning came and the Saint Church was wrapped up in sunlight again, chasing away the cold lingers of the night. A steady stream of activity marked the arrival of visitors to the hospital, many who were here to visit a relative or friend who had gotten injured due to the incident, bringing some needed comfort and relief to their loved ones.

For one visitor, that was not the case.She had neither brought gifts nor cards of well-wishes with her. In fact, neither of that was on her mind as she pulled up her car. Although it seem her companion was more enthusiastic about the trip.

"I'll go on ahead Signum. Leave your dour face at the front door before going in though."

Signum offered no reply to the jab but her sight was directed over the horizon instead, seemingly distracted. An illusion that was quickly dispelled as Signum shut the door of her car and entered the hospital.

Caro Ru Lushe (キャロ・ル・ルシエ, Kyaro Ru Rushie) is a character in Kha the Cleric's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: Rebuilt of StrikerS. She is a kind and somewhat timid girl and, just like Erio, has little sense for matters of life that most people would see as ordinary. Caro hopes to become a magical doctor like Kha or run a health food shop, which no one encourages overtly. She and Erio in Fate and Kha’s absences look after the young and powerful Allison Ford, who was formerly the priestess nominate of the Tome of Life Necro’omnicron.

Caro is known for taking long baths (up to 3 hours), collecting shopping catalogs and, ever since meeting Liana of the ATX team, experimenting with health drinks.

Her health drinks, like Liana, have earned some degree of infamy, in that while very healthy and capable of curing most ailments (as well as restoring energy), their taste leaves much to be desired, and they often cause the drinker to faint. Even manly men, like Kaempfer, Smith & Wesson, Ingram Prisken Aurion Dauer, and Master Wodan, have been laid low by her concoctions.

Her health drinks can restore energy even when it is not drunk: When one of Caro's health drinks were offered to Vice during a battle he vows he would rather die than drink it and began fighting harder.

There are only four people known to withstand this dreaded beverage: Kha (who’s taste buds are non-existent), Friediche, Yui Hiro, and Mai Enna.

She is named for either the Mazda Carol or the FSO Polonez Caro.

Caro in StrikerS

Native of the TSAB-administrated world No. 6, Alzas, Caro was born under the nomad-like "Minority Tribe" known as Lu-Lushe. Since very little, she was taught the tribe's traditional summoning arts: the "Dragon Summon". Caro exhibited a rare talent to the craft, to the point that she could already summon two powerful dragons by the age of six. This frightened the elders of her tribe however, who believed that her power would attract misfortune, and lead them to banish the girl.

This has had tremendous effect on Caro, who is has developed a fear of her own powers, right to the point of sometimes hallucinating that there was an irremovable blood stain on her right hand, the hand that she empowers to call upon Voltaire the Black Dragon Lord.

Sent to stay at a TSAB's HQ-attached special protection facility, Caro had a life of many restrictions and few liberties imposed upon her. This would have gone on forever, had she not met with Fate T. Harlaown one day by pure chance. After hearing about Caro's past, Fate decided to take her in and become the girl's guardian. Similarly on how it was with Erio Mondial, the circumstances prevented Fate and Caro from living together from the beginning. Instead, the girl started to live and work at a wildlife preservation area in the TSAB-administrated world No. 61, Supools, where she discovered that her talent as a summoner also helped her to deal with all sorts of animals. Caro remained there until the day that she was invited to be part of the Mobile Division 6.

She met Wang Liu Mei who was “holidaying” (she was actually looking for a secondary forward base for Celestial Being in the Core Worlds) in the area just prior to the beginning of Operation StrikerS. For the first time in her life, Caro discovered what luxury was, but Chao observed that the more Caro found herself to like it, the more she tried to withdraw from it.

Although talented, Caro is held back by her inner demons and still has much to mature as a mage. At the beginning of StrikerS, she was "C+" ranked, ground-based summoner that had little to no control over the dragons that she invoked. Caro eventually overcame this flaw after her ingression in the Division 6 and, after being assigned to the Lightning Squad under the sign-name of "Lightning 4", soon became a reliable member of the Forward Team. She seems to harbor romantic feelings towards Erio.

As Voltaire has a companion spirit, Ampere the White Tiger Queen, Caro would eventually choose Erio to be Ampere’s master.

At the end of the series, Caro goes back to TSAB-administrated world No. 61 and continue to work at a wildlife reserve.

Powers

A user of the Mid-Childa magic system, Caro's area of expertise is known as Summon Magic. Specifically, she is skillful at summoning and controlling dragons (hence the name Dragon Summon). Furthermore, she is quite proficient at Increase-type Support spells. Taking that, plus her blatant handicap for direct combat (she is highly dependent of her summoned dragons in order to be functional) into consideration, Caro was assigned to the position of Fullback of the Forward Team. Like most users of Summoning Magic seen so far, Caro possess a Boost Device named Kerykeion.

Defensive Abilities

Active Protection - Caro's variation of the basic Protection magic. It seems to be more tuned to defend against attacks from a single direction.

Barrier Jacket - The primary defensive measure of most mages. Caro's Barrier Jacket possesses a white cape that is very similar to Fate's and she wears a white hat, giving her a very stereotypical “mahou shoujo” look.

Wheel Protection - Similar in principle to Nanoha's Active Guard, a pair of wings appear on Kerykeion's jewel and conjures a magic typhoon that repels a target that is far away.

Booster Protection – A defensive shield that reduces the effects of AMF on a target.

Offensive Abilities

Blast Flare - Not a real spell, but actually Fried's inherent fire-breathing ability boosted by Caro's magic. Its power is nothing remarkable, but it would be expected of a auto-shot type attack.

Blast Rain - A variation of the Blast Flare used while Fried is in his true form. Unlike the original, Blast Rain is very strong, with a destructive power in par with an AA magic attack.

Shooting Ray - One of the few offensive spells in which Caro herself attack the enemy, two wings of light appear over Kerykeion's jewels and turn into one magic beam each.

Wing Shooter - Another of Caro's personal attack magics, multiple magic bullets are conjured and shot at the enemy. Akin to Fate's Plasma Lancer, the bullets can only be directed towards the target but not controlled during flight.

Summons

Dragon Soul Summon (竜魂召喚, Ryūkon Shōkan) - In order to keep Fried always by her side and, at the same, time have his true powers available when necessary, Caro makes use of the Dragon Soul Summon spell. With this magic, she can seal away Fried's real form and strength and then temporally summon them back when they are needed. On a side note, Soul Summoning is very advanced summoning spell known only by a few experts.

Dragon Mount Summon (竜騎召喚, Ryūki Shōkan, Dragon Mount Summon) - The magic that summons Alzas' guardian dragon: the Dragontiger Lord, Voltaire. It is important to be aware that Voltaire is an ancient creature of great power that only allows himself to be summoned when there is real need to.

Wrought Iron Summon (錬鉄召喚, Rentetsu Shōkan, Wrought Iron Summon) - This spell allows Caro to summon, transmute and control any inorganic matter on the nature. Although not restricted to it, the form of a chain is Caro's favorite and she dubbed this variation Alchemic Chain. She was once praised as being very skillful and imaginative in the usage of this magic. And when Caro is attempting Wrought Iron summons, the magic circle she calls upon, the chants and hand-claps involved are a heavy nod to the Alchemists from Full Metal Alchemist.

Rockbell Arm – Caro creates an arm’s gauntlet of magical steel for Erio to wear over his left arm, allow him to block attacks with it and strike with his other arm. Caro can further transmute parts of the Arm to add a massive blade to its cuff, or summon other parts and gizmos that can be mounted onto the arm.

Support Abilities

Boost up, Ready - Caro's and Kerykeion's exclusive Increase-type Support magic. Each variation raises only one single and specific attribute.

Enchant Word: Acceleration - The target's speed is increased.

Enchant Word: Barret - Increase the destructive power of a target's ranged magic. It does not help the attack penetrate certain defenses like an AMF.

Enchant Word: Strike - As the name suggests, the target's striking power for melee attacks is increased.

Enchant Word: Fortitude – Increases one's physical defence.

Enchant Word: Shield – Strengthens one’s barrier defence.

Enchant Up: Field Invade - This spell is similar to Kha’s Blessing of Sauctuary, but instead of a solid defense, this spell grants the target the capacity to penetrate a Field-type magic defense (such as AMF) and negate its effects.

Enchant Up: Energy Boost – Like Kha’s Blessing of Energy, this magic allows Caro to assist another mage in her spellcasting.

Physical Heal - Basic healing magic, it is meant to treat minor injuries only.

Spell Program Advance – As each spell is a magical program, using Kerykeion’s built-in mechanic, Caro can cast two “Boost Up” spells simultaneously, which then stack and meld into a totally new spell of power greater than the sum of the lesser spells. This only works from stacking the correct spells in a proper sequence. However, as this stacking is governed by the spirits of the runes in magic, it is usually due to trial and error, and the experience of other mages to learn a new program advance.

Caro knows of 1 Program Advance, and later found out 2 more. She is experimenting to discover more. Erio encourages Caro to try finding more Spells and Program Advances, both to increase her capabilities in battle, and to keep her busy from making health drinks.

Slash & Strike – Made by stacking Energy Boost with Enchant Word: Strike. It increases striking strength and cutting capacity.

Total Defence – Made by stacking Enchant Word: Shield and Enchant Word: Fortitude. This allows Erio to use Lightning Shield and tank a hard blow without being forced backwards, and then return the favor with Lightning Shield’s strengthened orbs.

Gun X Sword – Made by stacking Enchant Word: Barret and Enchant Word: Strike. Caro used on Erio, allowing him to shoot and hit much harder at the same time. Erio uses this spell for daring swings, like rappling down on an armored target, using the shots to severely weaken the target’s defense before finishing with a slash.

LIMITER BREAK: Princess of Voltaire

A mark of a great summoner is the closeness he/she is to her chosen guardian, and the best summoner and summons fight side-by-side as one unit.

After summoning Voltaire, Caro gattai’s with Voltaire, entering via his back and into a plug-like cockpit, while changing her battle costume to a more skin tight version, as seen being worn by this person. This gives Caro the ability to share knowledge and boosts with Voltaire and at the same time allow Voltaire to protect Caro, allowing him to focus fully on the prey. And he needed to, as Lutecia did the same.

As the pilot of Voltaire, Caro can help Voltaire with whatever tricks she picked up from watching Kha and Erio practice, allowing her to wrestle Lutecia’s summons to the ground twice. They also gain access to several new skills:


Rastaban Beam - Energy beams are launched from the eyes, after Caro stammers the spell “Ra-ra-ra RASTABAN BEAMUU!!!”

Laevanteinn– Voltaire summons his blade from his tail by yelling, “Howl, Laevanteinn!”, then charges to attack.

Fire Breath – Voltaire blasts the enemy with fire.


Caro knows that Voltaire has a companion spirit, Ampere the White Tiger Queen, and after growing to trust Erio, she and Voltaire agree to choose Erio as Ampere’s bearer. However, the boy has to win the capricious spirit’s favor before she agrees to be in contract to Erio.

Voltaire noted that, at the end of his battle as he was returning to his astral plane, he commented that Caro had grown much stronger than when she first called him to make a contract, and someday, he hopes that she can use Dragon Soul Summon on bigger things. This makes her recall that Voltaire had another form, which the Elder called Shin-Voltaire, and she promised to the vanishing creature that she’ll strive to attain that, so he could once again “Voltaire can dance his dance in the sky.”

Later, when Erio proved his worth to Ampere, Erio, Caro, Ampere and Voltaire can gattai into a powerful, summon creature that no living person has seen, and that the Lu-Lushe villagers call by only one word out of sheer reverence:

Jin.

Whiffy.

It's official; Lightning Squad is my favorite, with Kha's waifu Fate (), Lamia Signum Loveless, Kha's little boy Erio and the non-Tomino talented female mecha pilot summoner Caro!

Not at all, like we've said in the past, if canon refuses to propperly develop Hayate, we will. I mean, even Nanoha, who also focusses on ranged attacks, can fend of Signum in a one-on-one.

Hayate: No... way...!

Nanoha runs off alone. Hayate instead turns to face Sophia.

Hayate: One-chan.
Sophia: ?
Hayate: One-chan. Sorry. For everything... up till now...
Sophia: (forces a laugh) Well no haha... I... We... (face contorts, and she quickly buries her face and weeps)

Carim: Turn the fleet around 180 degrees! We must not let the daemons reach Allison!

Several TSAB ships banked hard a-starboard and begin launching ion cannon fire at an unseen foe.

Acous: The summoning... (opens his eyes) It's almost complete!

A storm of vile beings gather and blot out the moon before descending by the thousands. We then cut to Kha landing and skiding to a stop.

In the Takamachi household, the front door opened. Inside stepped a tall figure, draped with long blonde hair and wearing a tight black uniform. Closing the door quietly, she took off her shoes and walked up to the couch, where Nanoha slept with the Sankt Kaiser report tucked between her head and arm. Sighing, the blonde walked past her and up the stairs, heading for Vivio's room. Knocking gently, the woman slowly opened the door. "Vivio? Are you awake?"

There was no answer. Peering in, the woman couldn't help but smile. Vivio was asleep, using an arm as a pillow with the other stretched across the desk. Amidst the chaos of her room, Vivio was the pinnacle of peace, a whirlwind that was abated. Walking slowly up to the girl, the woman pushed gently on Vivio's shoulder. "Vivio, wake up... mama's home."

Vivio stirred, slowly. Opening her eyes, she looked up to the soft and gentle face of her mother, Fate T. Harlown. A small smile came to Vivio's face as she sat up and stretched. "Uwah~ ...hi, Fate-mama..."

"Just a 'hi'?" Fate asked, acting hurt and standing up straight, looking away. "After not seeing me for all this time? Mou..."

"Oh, please, it was only for two weeks," Vivio said, standing up and nearly tackling Fate, giving her a tight hug. "...but it's still good to see you, Fate-mama." Fate's heart warmed at the gesture as she returned the hug. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you, too," Fate told the girl. "You and Nanoha-chan." Vivio stiffened a bit in Fate's embrace, but said nothing. "Are you two still not getting along well?"

"Well it's only been a month," Vivio said as the two let go. The younger girl grabbed one arm with the other as she stared down a bit. "I mean, I am trying, Fate-mama, I really am... but some days, I just get so frustrated..." I want to be a good girl to my mothers... but there's something...

"I understand," Fate nodded. "When... some things happened, a long time ago, I latched on to Nanoha, but at the same time I found it difficult to really trust her, though I'd never admit it. Enforcer Training actually helped me solidify my feelings for Nanoha, and I definitely trusted her after I got out of that hell." She smiled and put an embarrassed palm to her face. "Oh, my, I'm saying those things that embarrass you again."

Vivio smiled back. "It's okay when no one else is around, Fate-mama, you know that." Putting a finger to her lips, she thought for a bit. "Hm... when do you leave again?"

Fate's expression darkened a bit. "...Three days," She sighed. "I'm to help Kha's unit on another world... something about hunting a violent criminal and fighting off monsters of all things." she chuckled. "Sounds like something out of a bad thriller, ne?" Vivio snorted a laugh at that. "I'm sorry I can't stay longer, Vivio."

"It's okay, I understand," Vivio replied almost too quickly. "I'm just glad I can see you while I can."
"That's good," Fate nodded. "I know things have been difficult these past several years, but together, we can all build something better. I can see myself and Kha, Nanoha and-" Fate blushed and stopped herself. "Oh, nevermind." When Vivio tilted her head and gave her a questioning look, Fate rapidly changed the subject. "Eto... how about you get started on dinner, and I'll wake up Nanoha?"

"Uh... sure," Vivio said, seeing through the weak effort. She nodded nontheless. "I'll get to it."

Together, the two walked back downstairs, Vivio slightly trailed behind. Fate and Vivio got along far better than Nanoha and Vivio; the two kept some form of contact over the years, as sometimes Fate's missions would send her off for months at a time. As Vivio's home life spiraled downward and out of control, taking her with it, Fate was one of the things keeping her from jumping over the edge.

But there was a wall; Vivio knew it, and she wasn't sure Fate did - but the two would never really be as close as they would like. Years of nothing but letters and phone conversations would do that. They could laugh, talk, and love each other dearly... but Vivio would never tell Fate of her days at school, or how she was feeling, or anything like that... well, not willingly.

Vivio, lost in thought, made her way to the kitchen and grabbed some veggies to make dinner with. Without any clear indication on what to make, she instead focused on a particular vegetable and listened in on the conversation behind her as she cut it.

Fate knelt at the side of the couch, gently pushing Nanoha's shoulder. "Hey, Nanoha-chan... time to wake up..." The body stirred, slowly, much like a tired adolescent, as Nanoha slowly rolled over, her uniform wrinkled as she moved about on it. Slowly, Nanoha opened her eyes and stared dully at Fate. "Ah, hello, Nanoha-chan."

"...hello, Fate-chan," Nanoha said quietly. "It's nice to see you again." Nanoha smiled in such a way that Fate couldn't tell if she was forcing it or not. "How... are things?"

"Same as usual," Fate told her, grabbing one of the Takamachi woman's hands and squeezing it gently. "How are you? Feeling any better?" Nanoha shook her head. "Worse?"

"..." Nanoha didn't answer, instead staring at the report in her hand. "Eleven years..." she whispered. Fate sighed. "What?"

"Why do you have to stare at that, every night?" Fate asked her. "Why do you have to remind yourself of that?"
"..." Nanoha looked away. "I... I don't know... because when I do... it lets me know that..." she shrugged. "There's nothing I can do..."

"I just... don't get it, Nanoha-chan." Fate stood up. "Because of one thing, you let yourself go... do you even care about her, anymore?"

"I do!" Nanoha blurted. "Really! I... But I..."
"Ow!"

Fate's head snapped up. "Shit..." she cursed under her breath, nearly toppling over herself to check on her daughter. Nanoha simply continued to lay there, her mind shutting down by reflex.

"It hurts!" Vivio whined. The knife she was using to cut with lay on the kitchen floor, spattered with blood, as Vivio's own right index finger bled rapidly, a clean cut along the top from just below her fingernail to just above the middle knuckle. Fate opened the cabinet and tossed stuff around, searching quickly for a bandage while simultaneously handing Vivio a clean dish towel.

"Apply pressure," she said. "It'll stem the bleeding till I find- ah!" Finding a set of large bandages, she pulled them out and ripped one open rapidly. Taking Vivio's hand, Fate wrapped up the finger with the bandage, applying pressure on it as she did. "We might need to take you to a doctor, Vivio; that's a large cut." she told the girl. "Are you feeling alright?"

"I... I think so..." Vivio stared at her finger as Fate let go, sighing with relief. Staring at the bandage, she couldn't help but feel amazed that Fate had literally dropped the conversation to help Vivio, despite being such a small part of her life. "Fate-mama, you didn't-"

"Oh, bother," Fate chided, patting her daughter on the head. "Look, I'll make dinner, you relax, okay?" Vivio nodded, looking ashamed of herself. "Look, Vivio-chan, it's nothing to be upset about, okay?"

"I... I guess..." Vivio sighed. "Hey, I'm gonna call one of my friends before dinner."
"Okay. I'll shout for you when its ready."

Vivio turned and walked out of the kitchen, cradling her injured finger and wondering why had she done what she did. When she had heard Nanoha's cry that she did care about Vivio, it was like... like something snapped, the young mage decided. Like she needed to see if Nanoha was telling Fate the truth. So she raised the knife into the air and-

Vivio's eyes met Nanoha's.

Nanoha's were full of fear and regret.
Vivio's... were simply disappointed. Huffing, Vivio stalked back up to her room. Nanoha watched the girl go before burying her head under her hands, disappointed in herself. In the kitchen, Fate sighed, feeling the tension behind her swell. I'll help them fix things. she vowed as she began dinner preparations. Even if it's the death of me, those two will reconcile, and we can close this chapter of their lives. They're my family, too!

"It appears that things are nearly set."
"Indeed."

A room of the HQ cloaked in shadows. Only the lights of monitors and a faint blue glow emanating from a shard of glass hanging from the ceiling illuminated the room. Within the room, six figures draped in Barrier Jackets shaped like cloaks sat on a hexagonal table, each one a different color.

The green one spoke first. "The outbreaks are getting to the point where we can't contain it."
The blue one was next. "So what? Let the Spawn spill out. The chaos may serve our purpose in the long run. If we can bring it out sooner, then all the better."

"There's still a problem," The violet one interjected, bringing an image of three familiar girls. "These two, Takamachi and Yagami, may pose a threat if they find out."

"You can forget about Takamachi," One in white said. "But Yagami is powerful, and Georashi is also a threat..."
"Indeed, as is Testarossa's daughter," An image of Fate was brought up. "I will compile a list of other threats to our Project."

"Very good," Their leader said: a mage cloaked in yellow. "Project OMEGA must go off without a hitch if we are to acheive total control," Looking at one of the others, he said, "Do you have it?"

"Yes, sir," The one in brown answered, pulling out a cage. Inside, with gnashing teeth and bound arms, an Infection Form hissed at the group. "We are in the process of studying it. If we can control the Abomination..."

"Then we will be one step closer to acheiving our goals... and it will be ours!" The one in yellow said. "The Belkan Prophecies spoke of the mythical City on the Hill, and soon, with the help of the monsters and Project OMEGA, we will be crowned its kings!"

"...or better than kings... Gods."

Nanoha and Fate cleared up the issue, saying that Aurion was just better than them in terms of experience and skill back then. However, they wouldn’t reveal how they lost despite Subaru’s inquisitions. Unfortunately for the two of them, Hayate and Keroko all too cheerfully revealed how they all lost, showing Nanoha’s and Fate’s most embarrassing losses due to smart and yet completely asinine use of Aurion’s illusions, much to the embarrassment of the leaders of Stars and Lightning Squads. Subaru, despite herself, was sent to the floor laughing over the ‘Large Ferret!’ tactic that Aurion used to defeat the then younger Nanoha, much to the Ace of Aces’ chagrin.

Teana – One of the first two forwards he met during his visit. Out of the four prospective Strikers, she was the only one who knew who Aurion was prior to the visit. Interestingly, Aurion showed more interest in Teana than in any other forwards. This is mainly due to their similarity in styles, illusion magic coupled with range attacks. He actually took her aside for a few minutes and told her that if there is time, he is willing to teach her more about illusion magic and tactics, citing her as one of the more unique young mages he knows since he only knows few other mages who uses illusion magic. Teana was delighted by the offer. She was skeptical about Aurion’s rumored victory over the four Aces, particularly over Keroko, her idol; which Subaru exploited to drag her along the ‘Aurion Dauer Combat Capability Investigation’ plan despite Teana’s reservations. In the end, she actually felt quite proud that Keroko was defeated thru ‘sane’ means, accepting the gap in experience of several years ago. She tried hard not to laugh on how Nanoha and Fate were defeated, but was encouraged by Keroko to not hold back, much to Nanoha's further indignation. Several months after StrikerS, Teana had already learned a few tricks from Aurion, as well as several tactics of applying her illusions properly in her attack plans.

Not nearly as crackish as you suggest. In fact, I quite like it.

So I've encountered another problem with writing my story, which is that I need to refer to some things which have, shall we say, inconvenient names.

Specifically, the Turing Test. (I might include the Drake Equation or the Kardashev scale later.) Basically, concepts and ideas which have a specific name set to them, but which should technically only make sense on Earth, as opposed to Midchilda.

This goes into rather basic things, sometimes: Newton's Laws of Motion. Murphy's Law, and the technically "correct" Finagle's Law. Hanlon's Razor. Occam's Razor.

I can think of four ways to deal with this:

• Use the name anyway. This completely ignores the problem of how a random person on Midchilda can use a term from the 97th Non-Administered World and have it understood by the other random person he or she is talking to.
• Use a made-up name. This makes more consistent sense, but is jarring and requires me to describe the concept at least the first time, so the reader knows what I'm talking about. This is also rather smeerp-like.
• Explain the concept every time I bring it up. Unwieldy and exasperating.
• "You know, there's a term for this on the 97th Non-Administered World..." How the heck did so many things on Midchilda develop in parallel to ours and not have an equivalent or close basic principle? Also, to avoid playing favourites, I have to come up with more terms for the other worlds; otherwise it would seem that Earth is the only planet with any sort of codified scientific knowledge.

I'm not happy with any of the choices. Currently I'm using choice one (using the names anyway, and pretending that it's a "translation"), but it just makes no sense.

Why not 2? The smeerp-ness and explanation will be for the first time anyway.

And all that myths and rumors bloated up their 'supposed' existence into a small legend in that particular world, which is later made even more popular there by a supposed 'true story' with input by people in that conflict (( and some not )) which dramatizes the whole story in the novel "Tales of Black Wing" aka "Ala Altra Fabella."

If/when Aurion found out...

Heh, I doubt they'd ever translate the game into English. A visual novel on a console feels weird after all, and unlike the Japanese other people might not buy into the whole concept.

Here's Aurion's relationship data with the Stars Forwards from the revamped profile... This is filled with a little crack and my own little take at the latest chapter of the manga, except that this happens after the final battle...

Subaru – One of the first two Forwards he met during his visit. Aurion knew much of Subaru’s background, but Subaru didn’t even know who he was until after the introduction. She was the one who spearheaded the ‘Aurion Dauer Combat Capability Investigation’ plan that she and the other Forwards formulated (with help from Shari and Alto) after hearing that he actually defeated the Aces before. The process was, suffice to say, full of comedic events (and lots of whining from Teana) that revealed nothing more than the fact that Aurion defeated the Aces when they were 11 and nothing more. Finally manipulating Vivio to confront Aurion about his wins, he simply replied, “I cheated.” before walking away, laughing. Nanoha and Fate cleared up the issue, saying that Aurion was just better than them in terms of experience and skill back then. However, they wouldn’t reveal how they lost despite Subaru’s inquisitions. Unfortunately for the two of them, Hayate and Keroko all too cheerfully revealed how they all lost, showing Nanoha’s and Fate’s most embarrassing losses due to smart and yet completely asinine use of Aurion’s illusions, much to the embarrassment of the leaders of Stars and Lightning Squads. Subaru, despite herself, was sent to the floor laughing over the ‘Large Ferret!’ tactic that Aurion used to defeat the then younger Nanoha, much to the Ace of Aces’ chagrin.

Teana – One of the first two forwards he met during his visit. Out of the four prospective Strikers, she was the only one who knew who Aurion was prior to the visit. Interestingly, Aurion showed more interest in Teana than in any other forwards. This is mainly due to their similarity in styles, illusion magic coupled with range attacks. He actually took her aside for a few minutes and told her that if there is time, he is willing to teach her more about illusion magic and tactics, citing her as one of the more unique young mages he knows since he only knows few other mages who uses illusion magic. Teana was delighted by the offer. She was skeptical about Aurion’s rumored victory over the four Aces, particularly over Keroko, her idol; which Subaru exploited to drag her along the ‘Aurion Dauer Combat Capability Investigation’ plan despite Teana’s reservations. In the end, she actually felt quite proud that Keroko was defeated thru ‘sane’ means, accepting the gap in experience of several years ago. She tried hard not to laugh on how Nanoha and Fate were defeated, but was encouraged by Keroko to not hold back, much to Nanoha's further indignation. Several months after StrikerS, Teana had already learned a few tricks from Aurion, as well as several tactics of applying her illusions properly in her attack plans.

Very nice. But didn't Erio and Caro also participated in the investigations as well?

In a sense, it's kinda Aurion and Zerstro had a short stint together by chance of Aurion being a temporary technician and Zerstro going undercover TSAB somewhere where it wouldn't stand out which was unknowingly caught up in something and they helped each other out for a while.

And since they're never actually seen together in the TSAB camp TOGETHER all of them at most 2 at a time... since all of them are in different departments, so all sightings are out in the field. Though some people involved know which is supposed to be Ala Altra, no one ever found out who all the members are.

And all that myths and rumors bloated up their 'supposed' existence into a small legend in that particular world, which is later made even more popular there by a supposed 'true story' with input by people in that conflict (( and some not )) which dramatizes the whole story in the novel "Tales of Black Wing" aka "Ala Altra Fabella."

If/when Aurion found out...

So Ala Altra is not even affiliated with the TSAB?

Which is mildly annoying. In the A's manga, Nanoha made an effort to improve mobility upon seeing her own advantages and strength in power, etc. Hayate pretty much 'lol I'm good in this, that's enough.'

Yeah. It does get annoying. The justification was that Hayate decided to be a leader rather than be at the frontlines, so improving her combat skills didn't seem that important. Weak, I know. That's 7arcs for you.
