OOOh that was a creepy preview >.>
I really enjoyed this episode, I loved how the atmosphere was set and the imagery used such as the condensation on the window pane. Also I enjoyed the insight into Maiyuri's past a bit more and seeing her death that time seemed even more painful that the first. |

Looks like Makise remembers what happened in the alpha line. I really want to know if it was Suzuha who stabbed her or Okabe.
x.x this episode was even more sad since we find out Mayuri always dreams about her deaths and comes back after every single one. when will it stop

Disappointing episode. I waited one week for the dramatic resolution of the Kurisu/Mayuri dilemma, only to find out that they delayed the decision for another week.
It's not that I am against character-building episodes but this episode in particular added nothing of value to the plot. Instead of wasting time with this episode they could have added Nae's backstory that was cut from the previous arc. Oh well, time to wait for another week.

The entire episode didn't really move that far, but it makes up by being soul crushing. Not even Okarin throwing his own life away is gonna save Mayuri, and going back will kill Kurisu, It left me wondering what to do.
"I came all this way for this?" 10/10

I'm really curious to find out how Kurisu reacts to this. It is unclear to me whether now that she knows her life is potentially in danger she will start working against Okabe, afraid that he might make the decision to save Mayuri at the expense of her life. At the very least she has a right to be suspicious of any action Okabe takes because she never knows when Okabe's next move might result in her death. Okabe hasn't been willing to sacrifice either of them so far, but there's always the potential that he decides his relationship with Mayuri is more important as he's known her longer. We shall see whether the final 3 episodes bring us collaboration or confrontation.

Why is this such a shock to Kurisu? I thought she knew already about her dying in the first timeline. Didn't she nonchalantly say "The first timeline is the one where I die, right?" at the end of the previous episode which is how Okabe realized in the first place?

I think it's more like that Kurisu didn't really think that was true, and thought it was all another one of Okabe's wierdness. That particular part was known to her long before they had the ability to timeleap afterall. It was only really a matter of convincing Kurisu of the gravity of the situation, that it was not a mere joke.

We already know that there was a second Okabe in episode 1, the beta world line. If we go in reverse from there, we can guess that the D-mail was cancelled, which would allow Okabe to go back to the beta line, and eventually use Suzuha's time machine (in order for there to be two Okabe's, since D-mail doesn't support physical time travel). But the important thing is that Makise either agreed to cancel the D-mail or sent it herself. Either way, we can predict her reaction next week to support saving Mayuri, simple as that. Is anyone else confused by the end of the episode, when Makise goes to Radio Kaikan's 7th floor (where she died in episode 1)? We know it's not the beta world line because the building has Suzuha's crash site. Did she somehow remember? |

edit - rewatched, you're right, she must be starting to remember since he doesn't mention which floor it is when he tells her. When she's staring at the floor, I don't get what the black screen with the red line of numbers in the corner meant though.. |

even if it's as no way as awesome as *that* episode 10, this episode serves the same purpose as the final breathing space before the possible frantic finish. It didn't progress the plot much, but builds up the character relationships much better, and make the viewers realise the importance if they haven't yet.
Gah how I wish more anime studios will learn their lesson and actually use the great music from the VN themselves. (Yes I'm looking at you DEEN) What moved me is when just as the cemetery scene starts my thoughts were that the only salvation Okarin could find is the endless timeloop like in a certain character's good end, only to hear that each timeloop adds to the burden of Mayushi. The dilemma experienced by that character in *that* episode 11 is once again portrayed here.

Oh, man, again?! I admire Okabe's persistence to save Mayuri but in the end seeing her die so many times is gotta be killing him inside... He should just tell her what he feels for her and let her go since all attempts to save her are just one big failure after another.

This episode did a wonderful job to emphasize and strengthen the relationship between the three leading characters in the series. Okabe's protectiveness and determination, not to mention his love for Mayuri, are possibly the only things that're keeping him from descending into madness, and now the knowledge that Kurisu will die if he saves Mayuri is tearing him apart even more, causing further confusion in him. The ep did a magnificent job of showing that, and it looks like it'll all come into play in the following eps.

I loved this episode because it was long overdue for Mayuri to get some screentime again. Kurisu had been stealing the show a little too much lately. They had to put things into perspective and remind us how strong Okabe's feelings for Mayuri are, as well as why he loves her so much. If I had had no choice but to chose between Kurisu and Mayuri last week, I would have eventually chosen Kurisu I think, but now... I really don't know. Thankfully, there's a good chance Okabe will manage to save them both.

I have been wondering for a while, we only have seen two word lines, alpha and beta. Are there more? Couldn't theoretically Okabe find a word line where Kurisu and Mayuri doesn't die during that summer? It might take a lot of D-mails and it might change the world as he knows it, but isn't it an option?

Do we know that Makise agreeing to cancel the D-mail is necessary for it to be cancelled? The D-mail was not sent to her phone, nor was it sent from her phone. I'm not sure how one could "cancel" the D-mail if the important part of it was that SERN detected it rather than the content of the D-mail, but I don't think Makise needs to be in on it for a cancellation to happen regardless.

it's just based on instincts and on the timing of the events, but I think that:
1. Kurisu definitely is going to switch to the original worldline, whatever may mean to her (it was her fate anyway, being the responsibile character she is I guess this would make her decide to take the burden on herself) I just can't figure out if she will talk about it with Okabe (probably, given the ep 22 preview) or do everything with the help of Daru without Okabe knowing. Kurisu vaguely crucified-like pose in the ED could go well with it, drinking the bitter cup that was meant for her from the very beginning - that is, ultimately accepting her fate. 2. Somehow, after all this suffering for the leads, I guess the show is going to give us a good ending, with only minor bitter aspects just to make it more believable. I can't see how the producers would go for having one of the two actually die; they've been toying with the concept a for a bit too long for that. Indeed, a dying Rintaro would have been a reasonable finale, but that possibility has just been ruled out. what puzzles me is how all this worldlines jumping actually would make any good, probably I'm not getting something very important. I mean, if I understood correctly all the possible alternative worldlines are all "already" existing (otherwise people would have complete memories, and not just glimpses of them, since the "alternative new future" - freshly baked - would then be "the" direct chronological descendent of the present), and switching worldlines mean travelling among them (with the viewer's mind), and not actually "avoiding character X to die" in the worldlines in which that's their destiny, right? so Okabe going back to the original worldline should mean that his point of view will go back to the original line where Mayuri doesn't die (*) - and that has already been true anyway since "forever" - it's just that Rintarou couln't witness it because his "self-awareness" was copied to the new worldlines' Rintarou together with the show narrative point of view did I got it all wrong? :scratcheshishead: (*) and would die anyway in all the alternative worldlines Okabe visited, regardless |

Just a thought, but what if going back to the Beta world line, with Kurisu killed, does not prevent Mayuri from being killed? We are all assuming that going to that Beta line will solve his current problem, but we do not know that as a fact.
If that happens, Okabe will lose both of them.
