Maybe I'm just old and jaded, but reading some of the comments about the trailer made me wonder if I'd downloaded the wrong version. Sure there are overtones of sex and violence, but we're hardly talking Hello Kitty Extreme Guro Vol 3 here - maybe people are just shocked by an anime that has characters over the age of 15? (Admittedly it's a pretty radical departure from the norm.) I for one welcome our post-pubertal overlords. |

Probably the biggest disappointment of this season, IMO. I'm sure gore fans will learn to appreciate it, even though it gives off a very bland feeling. OK, Noto Mamiko's voice was a good fit for Rin, but Kugyuu just threw me off the balance.
Not my blend of anime, to say the least. EDIT: The OP and ED: |

First, it was aired on a payable digital satellite channel, so it's not your average U or UHF cable channel, and second, most censorship on Japanese TV are self-imposed by TV networks. But you're right; AT-X--the TV channel in question--aired School Days with black blood and other forms of censorship.

The censorship of School Days was a reaction to the hype over a mruder committed by a highschooler that was making the front pages all over the country. If there had been an instance of lesbain tortrue in the news sometime last week, I bet this would have been censored beyond recognition

This is certainly not my normal fare, so I probably don't know how to judge it. The story seemed awfully artificial, but it was amazing how much happened. The violence and gore worked. The atmosphere worked. The animation was good. The voice of Noto Mamiko was outstanding, in my opinion. Tanaka Rie was good, of course. And I really loved the smooth voice of Hiyama Nobuyuki

the atmosphere and the characters were interesting enough, good enough start to be interested in what they're going to do with the next 5 episodes.
its a little early to be judging the story imo, good or bad. as one should expect from any series, not much goes on in that department in the first episode (or even first two from the whole "its going to match the amount of time of a 12 ep series" standpoint). all you should really be expecting is enough of a hook to make it seem interesting and get you to want to see the next episode, and i thought it hooked well enough. beyond that... not much to say... the action was good the fanservice nice it was gritty and certainly got in your face with the violence it wanted to grab attention and it did rather well at getting it it tossed out an introduction, it was a good introduction; and has me wanting to see where this is all going to go. 'bout all you can expect for an episode 1, and...thats what you get. |
