And to the original question asker, don't forget that Angel Beats isn't just a 13 ep anime, it's also two manga and a light novel. Unlike usual, each isn't just another person's interpretation of one main source; the anime, manga, and novels all complement each other, and Maeda says the best way to get the most out of Angel Beats is to indulge in all three media branches. As a multimedia project, they're doing a little bit of everything, not mastering at everything. You either master one thing, or just be pretty good at a lot of things. Angel Beats is just dipping toes into many forms of storytelling. |

Reference from Episode 5 to Episode 1
was Tenshi's motive in Episode 5 the same as in Episode 1?. Where in Episode 1, it seems the wants to stop the band from playing any further. While in Episode 5, she just wants to buy dinner. |

Yes, that's why the SSS didn't stop her. In episode 1 she was planning to stop the guerrilla concert as part of her duties as student counsel president, whereas in episode 5 she was relieved of those duties and simply wanted to buy something to eat.

Also the mechanics of the afterlife are not necessarily set in stone, so any writer can decide whether it is freedom from physical needs or a simulation of life. So really, it's because the writer wanted them to. |
