"....potential Hillary Presidency"

That has been a scary thought since Bill was in office. My father was in high school with her, and has less than kind things to say just from his limited contact with her.

This is where Obama should find a way to throw those 2 animals under the bus before the end of 2016. For all those idiots who want to have Obama impeached, nothing would be better than throwing THAT kind of sucker punch to those particular idiots by dropping Bush and Cheney to the lions in the pit.

I'm pretty sure we can find high school classmates with unkind things to say for anyone, let alone any politician. Except, you know, for people who didn't go to high school, or are the lone survivors, or something.

You know, I'm only 31, and I know I'm pretty different from how I was in high school...

I'll be 35 in 2 months. I'm more out-spoken than I was in high school. Other then that, still the same person I was back then. Then again I grew up faster than most kids. Had too many responsibilities growing up.

At 41, I'm a lot different than I was in high school.
In high school I was a leftist, I've grown up since then and realize the folly of that kind of thinking.

Leftist? And you tested nukes for the government?

Hence the growing up part after high school.
The USAF was an eye opening experience and learning just what a nuclear weapon can and cannot do showed me how full of shit the anti-nuke left was in the early 90s...and that was the tip of the proverbial "ice-berg" of left-wing nonsense.

I blindly followed my Parents social conservatism in middle school. A lot of regular folks typically adopt their parents perspectives in the world, but some do experience things that changes such views.

Then the real world hit hard in the financial crisis of 2008 and I saw the vast need and efficacy of social safety programs. It was a life changing experience working with health clinics during high school and seeing the poverty working people go through even after working day in and day out. Mixed in with traditional teenage rebellions, my energies became more focused on broadening perspectives and looking at alternatives.

Then I went to college and learned a lot about developmental political economy and realized how the position of social democracy is needed to temper the inequalities wrought by the current neoliberal regime of free markets and such.

On the other hand it is still hard for me to become less hawkish in military and defense matters. I just do not really see why people individually have to take the entire thing whole hog aka liberal = pro-social programs/issues, anti-war. Still I do know why it has to be that way structurally considering the need to form strong coalitions in government, so I just make peace with the tradeoffs that come with collective bargaining.

PS. People forget Hillary campaigned for Barry Goldwater's campaign. And now she is considered the left of center Democrat. Times change. People sometimes need to respect history and learn from it I think.

I didn't politically flip since high school, but hopefully I acquired a sense of nuances.

I never said they were any better, just different, but still as full of crap as their Democratic counterparts.
The truth isn't something either side of the American political spectrum can deal with. The only real difference is that the so called "conservatives" are slightly (and I do mean slightly) better than the idiots to the left of them.

Calling anyone "to the left" or for that matter to the right, idiots, does not necessarily mean that their perspectives isn't valid.

It is just varying perspectives tinged by culture and life experiences.

I mean I could just as simply dismiss arguments made by people who do not subscribe to my beliefs, but that doesn't mean I'd call them "idiots" and not try to be friends on other more mundane things like hobbies.

When I was younger, I subscribed to the popular notion that Republicans were evil,
and Democrats were stupid.

But as I got older, and learned more about politics, I've come to realize that
stupidity *and* evil are rampant in *both* parties.

Perhaps the whole concept of political parties needs to be re-examined.

Different hands of the same beast. They can use either hand to wipe its ass with your money while fondling itself with the other. Which hand are you gonna shake?

Illusion of choice makes people pretty self-righteous.

You liked Valvrave. That's more than enough for me to like you

Anyway its easy enough to fall into cynicism and disengage from the political process overall, but turning our backs from it doesn't make it go away.

Decisions made by the political process still affects our daily lives even if we choose to disregard it.

It's not cynicism to realize that the political system is beholden to the economic system first and foremost, and that civil/social issues are used as wedge topics to distract from that.

This has been the case since the founding of nations. The fact that people rationalize economic inequality as "just the way it is" should tell you all you need about how deep the problem is.

This will change (hopefully, for the better) once the current economic system collapses (which won't be long now). On the downside, it will be painful. On the upside, it will be an opportunity to rid ourselves of the shackles of wage slavery.
