So why is "Son Goku" higher than Tonari no Totoro? "Dragon Ball" and its successor "Dragon Ball Z" was a highly popular anime as it was being shown in the mid 1980s to mid 1990s as the golden age of Shueisha/Toei collaboration. The majority of twenty-some-year olds who are the youngest group of the current work force has grown up by watching this show in elementary school. As much as asking twenty-some-year old the question "what show defines your childhood" will give a prompt answer of "Dragon Ball" and "Son Goku." I too am in that generation - and as the children who have watched this in elementary school are now in the work force, they will remember watching this show. Twenty years from now, one might expect "Naruto" to pop up as the kids watching them today grow up and enter the work force. |

I'd say Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Too bad he is only ranked number 6 on that list, but i guess i should be thankful he is popular at all, Fist of the North Star was just created too early to be widely popular here in America. T_T
ah well, gotta love a cold bastard who can blow your brains out his punches. |
