The holding hands one is understandable (though there are clingy girls), but being alone together is mind boggling. The high "cheating" rate I suspect is mostly due to teens trying to figure out who they would like to go out with.

Either way, I'm always weary of these results.

At this point, I'm semi-derailing the topic, so I will say Simon is clearly the best character in the show.

What's amusing is that the picture above that article shows a guy cheating.

It's good to be leery, the Sankaku article is indeed the one I was referring to, I guess it wasn't as in depth as I remembered (after I read it I recall following a bunch of links so I must have just lumped it all together in my brain ). However when you look at overall articles, like the one Sensei linked it does paint an interesting picture of relationships in Japan, and family life there as well.

How close is it to reality? Dunno. Numbers can be spun in some pretty interesting ways. And media does like to exaggerate for ratings.

Anyway, unintentional thread derailing aside, (which I do apologize for instigating), I still find myself praising this episode for handling the subject in a mature way without trying to dress it up heavily or hammer the message into the viewer into a preachy sermon. That there's all of these other bits of social commentary I find interesting in addition to that just really hammers home how much better I felt episode two was compared to one.

And what do you think happens when people are "alone together"?

It's the outcome of that scenario that is fueling the answers imo.

I don't think it derailed. The father was cheating in the second ep.

That made me laugh so hard.

Angst or not, if I remember correctly suicide among young people in japan is quite high so one can see where the storyline comes from

Izaya is definitely high on my list of "interesting" characters but I totally digging the vending machine throwing guy at the moment XD

Thanks. (I do wish Sankaku had less questionable content...)

I've actually had conversations about this, and one of the points that comes up is 'state of mind' - i.e. if the person thinks what he/she is doing is cheating, then that's what they label it as. Keep in mind that Japan is a society where male-female friendships are extremely rare. If you're seen in public with a person of the opposite sex, most people automatically assume you're dating.

======

I'm also stuck on Orihara (Izaya) and vending machine guy. Loving how Kamiyan is voicing the former too... ack, though I'm finding Kida darned amusing too, in the kind of way...

Izaya and Shizuo by episode 2 is so far the most interesting character...
But i'm kinda expecting Seiji plot...
What happened to him so he will ditch school forever?

Well, in the novel we know the reason WHY Yagiri didn't want to attend school, but for some reason the anime cut (or maybe they'll showed that part later) that particular part, it was supposed to be in the first episode.

Clue: It has something to do with the girl who was with him in the OP and ED.

lol, given what Superknuckles said about asian societies percieving suicide as a way to send a message (since I was reading all the spoilers people were posting before I watched the episode) I just kinda assumed from Yagiri's speech ('something to do that's more important than my life', 'may never come to school again' , etc.) that he was planning to be a jumper too. So he's not suicidal? Just doesn't want to attend school? Alright, guess I'll find out next episode then.

Yeah, i know it had something to do with the girls that have marks in her neck...
But, i'll patiently wait until the anime reveals the reason...

Good anime supposed to be chew slowly...

@xKeen
