You might want to look into a Kindle or a Nook then (or better yet an iPad or Xoom). SO then you could appear to be bad-ass techie, and still read whatever you want.

For the English version, there are many bookstores that ship online. For the Japanese version, Amazon Japan has a 1-9 set and is still taking reservations for the Surprise First Press Limited Edition. Search using 涼宮ハルヒ in books.

Thanks to 7netshopping, we have the official cover for Surprise (Latter Part):

(My preview lacked the (後) beside the title among other things that were barely noticeable)

Edit: Amazon has uploaded a good quality version of Volume 10's cover. I've spoiler-tagged it due to size, not for content.

What's with the hand thing that Sasaki's doing? It's like an awkward peace greeting

It's the usual V sign. Sasaki's only adding her personal touch to it.

I've seen that used a lot in anime and manga, especially by the mangaka of Haruhi.

May 25 is, ahem, a day before my birthday. They had better not pick this day to Nice Boat, because this time... it's personal.

Yen Press should write a volume that's designed to teach English people Japanese....

But then people would just import everything and not buy the English versions!

But in all seriousness, I agree with what you're saying. It wouldn't even be all that hard to make, really, as they could just use the "teach English to Japanese fans" one as a base. Though I'd imagine that could end up feeling weird, depending on how they went about making that.

I would think they would love us to import them. They would get a bigger cut of the profits that way. But it would most likely cost us more than the licensed Western English versions.

Both websites have been updated with entrance exams into the respective Haruhi brigades. The 2nd website is no longer static.

I've posted about this in the Spoilers and Speculation thread as it involves a lot of spoilers and speculation as to what the next two novels will be about given the questions on the SOS Brigade version. I felt it would better fit in that thread considering the depth of the quiz compared to the available English publications. The questions/requirements are translated. Free free to try your best at the North High Entrance Examination.

It's counting down until midnight on May 25th in Japan as that's the first time anyone can purchase the first press edition of the novels. Previously the beta website had static in place of the information (besides the FAQ) but now the website shows the information almost exactly the same (the North High/SOS Brigade examinations) with "corrupted" data instead.

There's a new listing at a store titled MangaOh club that likely gives us some new information on Surprise. On June 15th, the same day that the regular editions of Surprise (Former) and Surprise (Latter), Kadokawa Publishing will be releasing a new Haruhi Suzumiya Official Fanbook. In the description of the new mook, they state:

It appears as though we will be getting some new characters in the new novels. Only 42+ days to go!

Whoa, two new novels are being released on May 25th? Badass.

I've always wondered if Tanigawa took such a long hiatus because he felt overwhelmed by the levels of popularity the anime brought the franchise to. I know that I'd feel flustered and pressured if I were in his shoes by the first season's insane popularity.
