I felt it little funny when Asuna stated that usually people defeat boss with raid teams... Isn't she forget that she only need three people (Asuna, Kirito, Klein) to finish off a boss at lvl 74?
The Army guys probably cost the boss a few HPs, and Klein's whole guild was there. (Six guys? I forget.)

I just have a hard time seeing Kirito taking the time to actually increase his cooking skills unless the cooking system is different for ALO.

Yea, Kirito is something of a well-known figure in ALO after the events in Faery Dance.

Not to mention Kirito recovered Excalibur very recently in the story and that would of been announced to the players at large, so yeah he'd be pretty well known. He participates in the floor boss fights too so he'd be known by a hardcore boss hunting guild like this.
