How can you compare KyoAni with Dream Theater? One is your fave studio and the other is your fave band?

I mean, the music in K-ON! is (so far) not bad, but nowhere near DT's level.

If there is something about this series that is top notch, it's those two things.

It's kinda relative, though. This isn't as pretty as Haruhi, but then, little is.

K-ON is good so far
but i am not just saying this about K-ON
i am saying this on kyoani work as a whole
its like dream theater in that it has to be messured by a different standrad then pretty much anything else

its for example possible for dream theater and say iron maiden (just to choose one) to release an album in the same time frame and to have a "bad" dream theater album (like say octavarum, which i dont really like personally) and an awesome iron maiden one
but the dream theater can only be called "bad" when messured against OTHER DREAM THEATER albums
and if you messure the iron maiden album with the dream theater one then the dream theater one would be head and shoulders above in terms of music level
it can be called bad by dream theater standards
but it would still kick the crap out of any other band in the field by the sheer level of musiceianship (sorry if thats not a word

)

and its the same thing with kyoani
they can (and in fact HAVE TO) be messured by different standards then almost any other studio out there becouse the level of work that is put into their shows is so far beyond avarage
thats what i ment
kyo ani is (in my mind at least) to the anime studio world
what dream theater are to music
and what valve are to the video game indestry
smaller and lesser known then some of the bigger names
but a class by itself that is far beyond the cookie cutter crap that the other 99% of the indestry is feeding us

One thing I can critisize about the animation are the legs. The blacken skirt parts on Yui are probably panty shots later on the dvd's will be released.

Also and thanks to the end song, Mio now probably is the most popular girl, she got me on the group pic I firt saw her manga and anime promo. After the end song, Iam hooked.

different standards, different opinions, also if you look at kyoani's folio... this would be a step down, unless this is the actual intended style for the show. It's just kyoani has presented us with their "signature" or style of show like haruhi, clannad, kannon, air and what not and this just isn't up to snuff. Its an observation not bitching.

character designs are not the same as crappy animation
key character designs are key character designs
and haruhi was designed specificlly for the anime
this on the other hand was made from a 4 kuma manga
so its not really kyoani's fault
the animation level is very high on the whole (just watch the "live" show part)

Yui wears black pantyhose, not stockings. Probably to avoid upskirts, heh.

Don't expect much fanservice outside of beach/hot springs episodes.

Lucky Star, Lucky Star, Lucky Star.

Several episodes of Haruhi and Clannad used a style pretty similar to this too.

It's not BAD. Just different. And yeah, I'm pretty sure this style is intended.

Man, I wanna watch the episode again. KyoAni Quality is so great...

Kyoani has never censored fanservice and later added it for the DVD for the sake of it. So no, those are meant to be that way.

The only KyoAni work K-On is really comparable to is... surprise, Lucky Star.

Just saying, it's still higher animation quality than a lot of stuff out there today.

hehe well if the anime keeps with the manga then a beach ep will probably be the only service however it will be great ep, especially for Mio fans!

If anything, they're more comparable to A1's Kannagi... not surprising, since I believe the same animators and art designers worked on it? And Kannagi always reminded me of Lucky Star, art-wise.

And I was more referring to what each show is based off of than the individual art styles... both K-On and Lucky Star were 4koma.

Edit: K-On and Kannagi share no staff, huh. Why the hell do they look almost the exact same then?

Yes I know k-on and lucky star are 4 koma, but of all kyoani works the character designs are most comparable to haruhi, and not lucky star, which is why comparison of "weak" art is brought up. Thats an opinion and nothing else, does it mean I'm gonna hate this show? No, as long as the art style is consitent thats all I want.
