her master IS and ISN'T King Arthur. Her master was a hunter of campiones, and was the prototype of King Arthur. He appeared after the Roman departure of Britain and was hailed as a great hero after he killed the warmongering Roman general who was not only a campione but also the ruler of Britain at the time. But he's not at the same time as 'King Arthur'. In order to revive her master, Guinevere, in the middle ages, spread false romantic tales regarding Arthur and his court--in hopes that his resulting popularity would revive him. It backfired badly, and a new god of steel--Arthur was born a few years before Campione took place.

He does, but it's also a bit sad. Because in reality
Spoiler:
Lancelot is actually a woman in disguise. She was one of Ares' daughters, one of the Queen of the Amazons. But because of necessity, her tale twisted so differently from the original that Lancelot, the one he knew, would never come back after killed her because even if the god lancelot gets revived, a different male would take her place .
Why was Godou sad about killing the person who killed Athena? Wasn't that what he wanted to do? Or was the female Lancelot not at fault? And I thought Lancelot was a Campione, not a god? Finally, how the HELL did Arthur hunt Campione's? How badass would he have to be to kill godslayers? Besides, weren't there only supposed to seven of them ever?

I can't answer all of that, but in regards to their numbers. There are 7 currently, but there have probably been quite a few campiones in history. Didn't it say one of Erica's ancestors was one?
The problem is that while they don't age, they are constantly put in opposition to gods. Eventually they lose and die, or they accumulate enough authorities so as to be almost invincible.

Spoiler:
He is sad partly because unlike Athena, he knew that Lancelot would never return. Because of the chivalric tale of king arthur and his knights, fabricated by Guinevere, the modern image of lancelot was that he was a romantic, chivalric male knight--not the Queen of Amazons, worshipped by the ancient Sarmatians that she was. Hence, by killing her the female lancelot would never return. Even if lancelot once again descend on earth, this lancelot would be an entirely different existence--in correspondence with the one depicted by the arthurian legends. The 'revived' lancelot would be a man.As for Guinevere's master, he was a god who hunts campiones. He goes to 'sleep' after killing all the campiones in the world--only to 'reawaken' after a certain number of campiones are born. And no, there weren't just seven campiones ever. There were more in the past--but they all died. The seven campiones are only those who are currently active. One of Erica's ancestor, for example, was a campione.

My memory is fuzzy, but I can still answer some of this
Spoiler for answer:
Can't remember the first question.
Lancelot is not a Campione. There are only 7 and it's been listed out before. I don't think we know exactly how Arthur kills Campione, but he has been foreshadowed as early as volume 5. Prometheus and the mother of Campione have both consistently warned Godou in his dreams that he must be wary of the Campione Slayer that is currently sleeping around Japan. Of course, Godou would always forget his interaction with his "mother", but he always has this feeling that he's forgetting something very important.
Further, there are also numerous hints throughout this novel that Godou would eventually fall at the Slayer's hand. Aside from his "mother", when Athena was dying and moving on, she hoped that she could be revived and meet Godou again. In particular, she hoped to meet Godou before he meets "that person". The implication is that if Godou meets that person first, Godou would die and she will not see him. Like before, it's consistently hinted by various characters that Godou and the other Campiones would perish in the hands of the Slayer.
What makes Godou special in this whole thing is that if the Slayer awakens, Godou would be the first person he fights because of proximity.

Spoiler for about gods:
The thing about gods is that they don't just "die". So long as there is a belief and following of a certain god, he or she will be revived in time. Athena will revive. Vethprega will revive. The only question is when.
In the case of Lancelot, she will truly "die" because the current belief in Lancelot is the King Arthur Knight of the Round Tables Lancelot rather than the Amazon one. As such, if she disappears, she will truly disappear. "Lancelot" will revive, but not as the Lancelot Godou personally knew and fought.
gods maybe someone existed in the past; consider it as a history data(Amazoness queen), God is worshiped and given shaped by human through myth, legend, consider it as Tales data( male chilvarous knight), though the name of the data and decription may be alike but the content is not the same - same with Lancelot, her history data is the final one while tales data still have many backup in people brain, current Lancelot die =data lost so if Lancelot revived, it will be from tales data which have many backup - thus the new Lancelot will be shaped by the image human belief the most - which is a chilvarous male knight
so the campione slayer is a god? Must be quite gar to be able to consistently kill campione. Also, campione arent immortal, just likegods there is a small chance they will fall. If the current Gods are this powerful, imagine if God of the Bible descends
Given that the Egyptian campione is over 1800 years old,
Spoiler:
I bet she must have known a thing or two about the campione slayer. Since the guy turned up in Britain after the romans left it in fifth century A.D.E.

Thing is, maybe the reason why she's hiding
Spoiler:
is because she knows he is coming. So my guess is that she will be revealed before him and imagine how many powers she has at 1800yrs old?!. Also i think he migh possibly be the Mid-boss and the big boss would GOD with the archangels as mini-bosses(speculation)

Spoiler:
No one knows when 'he' is coming. Ever since the last 'hunt' more than 1000 years ago, that man stopped to revive, and instead hid his location of slumber from his followers. Even when there were times that the world was filled with campiones, he failed to turn up--as if he's tired of killing. This was the reason why Guinevere and co. desperately tries to revive him--because he didn't revive on his own anymore.

Spoiler for about gods:
I wonder what would happen if Verethragna were to revive? Would Godou lose his Authority?
Anyway, this thing about the campione slayer sounds interesting. To kill campiones so flawlessly, either he's freakishly strong or he has an ability that works on campiones.
Another thing I'm wondering about is Arthur. Apparently his identity as popular version of King Arthur came about because of Guinevere's rumour spreading, like Lancelot. So just who is he, really?

Spoiler for maybe:
there is the possibility that gods can't revive unless the campione who stole their authority completely dies(100% no chance of revival)
oh and won't the problem with lancelot be fixed if he spread the true legend of lancelot there's a high chance it can be fixed

Thats impossible, think about it, the legend of king Arthur have circle around for hundreds of years, even if you spread, no one will believe it, if it a small legend then maybe but the legend of king arthur and lancelot is too famous and they are event recorded in the book. The only way is Godou become the final person who believe in her legend and hope that she will come back

What's curious though, is that the stories of the Amazonian Queens are still in circulation in the modern world--albeit less famous than the tale of Lancelot.
Spoiler:
In addition, Lancelot was not the real name of the Goddess either, it was just a name given to her by the Sarmatians who are the descendants of Amazons and a group of Scythians. Although exactly who she was has never been revealed, it is known for certain that she is either Penthesilea, Hippolyta,Antiope, or Melanippe--one of the sisters. I think that the most effective way to 'revive' 'Lancelot' would be to promote a cult based upon the Amazonian Queens in hope that the female Lancelot would be revived based upon her original tale.
You know, if the gods want to keep revived they should have a lot amounts of money to make movies/books or other literature/art works to keep themselves known.
