So it's like present day clone? The clones degenerate very quickly and has flaws.

Well, in case of sub-core system, I use stem cell bandage metaphor (it's new stuff in current day medical science).

You see there's this damaged core, and it cannot self-regenerate due to missing parts. Solutions? Iori cannibalized his old but continuously evolving Quantum computer (which predates I.S. core). How it work is described as:

1. The parts transplanted form Quantum computer will act as suspender and connector between cut-off parts.

2. As the core's parts connected, it'll be activated, 'eat' the computer's parts and convert it into Core's parts. Transforming the damaged core into a Sub-Core.

3. Even then, the chances that Sub-core can work is only 2:1, has evolution speed halved, and it's power output is only 60%, add to the fact that it cannot store I.S. body and armament (though still retains ability to create unlimited ammo and energy). It's also lack software for self-repair, hence has to be connected to a real core (will not interfere with said core's operation so all you need is a thick cable).

The catch? it can be used by anyone, guys included.

@ Zero - Yep, the duplicate cores are based on cloning. Eventually they'll be too strong unless Irish and Tatenashi disable the research and stop the project.

Side note - Ironically, his mother is one of the head researchers. Can't wait to write her reaction when she finds out her own son is destroying her project and screwing PT over

The sub core system is like a carnivore then? It eats machinery in order to regenerate it's lost parts or "limbs" so to say. But won't this eventually cause problems in the long run? Eating machinery makes the core smarter/more adaptable. Out of control machinery is a no-no.

Not so much carnivore/ cannibal machinery as it's works just like human bodies with stem cell applied to it.

If you use stem-cell bandage on your wounds, it'll assimilate with your body, creating green-looking skin which somewhat creepy looking but due the incredible speed of wound recovery (about 3-5 times faster than normal), color doesn't matter.

The green color will disappear in few weeks or months depending on the size of your injury (nowadays it's only used for heavy grade burns or something like that since it's expensive, but in future it'll be more commercialized).

The difference is that once a damaged core transform like a sub-core, it'll stay as sub-core for a long time until it can evolve into a proper core (which may took months or decades, only Tabane can do jack about it)

EDIT: that aside, Iori don't sacrifice his Quantum Computer at all, just sliced some part to be used by much smaller I.S. core. Those sliced section will heal overtime.

Why couldn't we just have Tabane creating additional cores and shipping them to a location, but PT intercepts it or something.

@ Zero - Extra irony because she's probably sent for multiple death squads to try and kill them since she doesn't recognize him. Only once she gets a closer look does she see that she's been trying to kill her own son.

Sub core - So it's comparable to an injured body receiving treatment? The bpdyay be crippled for a while but it will fully heal given enough time. The cores are supposed to be sentient to a degree though, will this cause any problems for the pilot?

Sub-core work more like an mentally-retarded compared to I.S. core, so it'll follow it's pilot, and it'll comply to the pilot's will at 100% efficiency, disregarding pilot's mental state (the reason Josh can use it at full sync).

But since I.S. advanced A.I. is part of it's operation, Sub-core system also has 20-35% reduced response time. Both 'Core Resonance' and 'Frame Synchronization' won't work on it.

Side note - For the plan you and Blitz have, is it really plausible? She'd probably program it to self destruct when it was intercepted. Remember, this is the woman who sends Golems after her own sister in a populated area.

@ Eratas: In my fic, PT manufactures fake cores, just like your plan. Then they distributed said fake cores and illegal IS technology through out the world, which laid the foundation for the Second Confict.

The core is simply just a basic IS core, except it's life is short and runs of different energy than the regular IS core.

This energy has hazardous effects to the pilot, wreaking havoc on the bonds that keep the body's cells together but not breaking them. The results would be intense pain, and if worse comes to blows, physical or mental warping and disfiguration, and at even worse case scenario, utter death.

This mysterious energy I haven't worked out could work as the energy powering Irish's suit, but then again, it's up to you.

@ Eratas: Sure, why not? Just don't make him seem hopelessly in love. First comes affection, appreciation, somewhat of a friendship, and then, finally, the crush and love.

And how much of an ice queen are we talking about? Are we talking about a winter, tsundere, easily thawed kind of an ice queen?

Or the much higher class, subzero, blank, ice cold heartless bitch kind of ice queen? (Hits himself for even suggesting Laura to act like that*)

@ Rain - Somewhere in the middle. She's not a bitch that's for sure, though she does get annoyed by Kyuukai and his energetic personality. This is why she gets along so well with Irish, no need to worry about him acting like an energetic ball

I'm putting ship tease with the wrong characters for humor, Kyuukai and Tatenashi are an example. They're just friends here but students comment that they'd make a good couple, ditto wih Laura and Irish.

Irish calls Kyuukai a lolicon since Laura looks like she can pass off as 13 while he looks like he can pass off as 20. Kyuukai calls Irish a shota and puts him in the middle of short jokes. Can't you just feel the love?

Side note - Do you mind if I have Tabane pull a big damn heroes and save Kyuukai from Psycho!Irish? Pretty much shows her mama bear tendencies.

Side note 2 - The skull suit doesn't power the user, it just removes the limiter. To explain, the normal human body can only use 30% of it's power or it would tear itself apart. The skull suit removes the limiter and allows Irish to use more of his natural strength. Unfortunately, this causes him ectreme pain since the body wasn't meant to handle that much use.

Kyuukai would probably think of Tatenashi as the annoying friend who constantly undermines whatever he tries to do. Such as trying to get closer with Laura, or train with his guns or work on his equipment without breaking something while she distracted him.

They'll be good friends, trying to get into relationships with the other pair of friends who constantly try to avoid them.
