Not sure you understood Westlo correctly.

You do realize that nowhere in his post did Westlo say sales/popularity have any sort of influence on what he decides to watch.

Saying you care about sales numbers because it affects the odds of a show you like getting a sequel isn't the same thing as saying it influences what you decide to watch.

still, hearing an anime isn't continued (or made at all) because of sales, is still a case of "too bad"
I'm more miffed not seeing a continuation of Dominion Tank Police because Masamune Shirow apparently has more interest in softporn calendars

Not really, you're ignoring that massive push by Shogakukan for their Weekly Shounen Sunday manga titles. You might as well have posted the Zettai Karen Children spinoff instead... they have started 8 new anime projects and considering they only run like 24 titles, some of which are way too new for an anime, others which either have some running already...

Thought it was a lock to get OVAs anyway... especially since they've been bundled with the manga, I guess they wanted to push one more time with the tv series, who knows might be a new studio.

Hopefully this was the last of additional anime for their properties and the last 3 spots are all brand new, Silver Spoon is a lock obviously...

Hard to say with external factors like Shogakukan's anime push, but probably not, I mean maybe Manglobe are doing a third season of TWGOK because they feel like breaking even again instead of going into the red like with every other show they've made lol.

Also tbh I was kinda bullish about a 3rd season even with the low sales...

Kami Nomi is their best selling anime in Japan after all... if it was selling like Michiko to Hatchin and Sarai-ya Goyou...

One other thing I'd say is that I suspect that CDs and concerts are a big part of the TWGOK strategy, particularly with Kanon (which is why I'm not surprised she is getting the spin-off). They've had a full Kanon live concert and multiple CD releases (both singles and full albums) now, so I think that part of it is working well for them. In the end, if the anime can keep the profile raised or another round of events and CDs (and even average DVD/BD sales), that may still make it a reasonable bet. It is another example, of course, of where video sales don't tell nearly the whole story.

Of course I'd be happy if something I liked sold well, but in the end, I voted for the last option.

Besides, most things I like anymore are usually the series that bomb with Japanese viewers...
