I haven't read the manga but the anime is a mess. It just lacks focus and they made the plot seem so convoluted. I do think the manga can be good though since they may explain things better.

If you read the manga first...... and haven't see the anime.
Then I say don't watch it, just stick with the manga.
Changed too many stuff in the anime.

I have read the first volume and am halfway through the second and can't seem to get interested in the series. Is this a story that you liked immediately or did it take a while to grow on you? I may just give up on it.

I only read manga, it's much faster. I'm at volume 23 now (not English translation).

SDK manga >> SDK anime.

Having watched 15+ eps of anime before it got subbed, I can say it's... well, different - I can't explain how stupid it is. They have big monsters and all that. If you like, then you can like it.

After reading 5 (translated) volumes of the manga, I can say it is more realistic (if you can say "realistic" here :P). It also contains more ecchi material! Go manga! What's more, all the people slain are really people, not big monsters. :P

I stick with the manga.
