I think the age difference is 4.5 years... But I don't know how old Sasuke was when the clan was slaughtered. I guess at least 8.5 according to this timeline.

We know that during part1 Sasuke and Itachi were respectively 12-13 and 17-18 years old from the manga and data book, ie a difference of ~5 years depending of their birth month.
We know from the chapter 145 that the day of the slaughter Sasuke was the same age as when Itachi graduated, ie 7 years old.

Which means it happened betweeb 5 and 6 years before part1 which means Itachi was either 12 or 13.
Given that he also became Anbu leader at 13 it can't be 12.

Ah ok... my translations from 145 and the chapter in the flashback at the Naruto-Sasuke fight differ. That's the last piece I needed.

But that does mean Sasuke was 5 when he entered Academy, does it?

The thing is that these numbers aren't as clear as it could seem.
The possible gap is near two years as when it is said that Itachi became Chuunin at 10 for example he might be 10 years and 2 months or 10 years and 11 months and it's the same for Sasuke. Add to this that they don't have the same birthday and one can pass a years will the other do not.

Age difference between Itachi and Sasuke : 5+ to 6- years
Age of Itachi when Sasuke enters the Academy : 10.5+ to 11.5-

Hence age of Sasuke when he enters the Academy : 4.5+ to 6.5-
The max possible doesn't allow Sasuke being the best at the academy several times and Itachi's father not talking to Itachi for a while so it's between 4.5 and 6.
More probably between 5 and 5.5.

If you want to start the manga straight after the anime chapter 239 is the next part you should start from.

If you want to refresh your memory from where you stopped read from chapter 238-239 onward.

First up, in case you haven't heard by now, there will (well shouldn't be anyways, sometimes there is) not be a release of Chapter 319 from the Japanese Naruto manga series this week. This is due to the fact that last weeks issue was a double issue, and this week happens to fall on one of Japan's many holidays, Obon. This is of course a Japanese Buddhist holiday to honor the departed spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist festival has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people from the big cities return to their home towns and visit and clean their ancestors' graves.
