Ahhh I'm reminded of why Higurashi is so great again.

So to be able to commune with Hanyu, Rika needs her identity as the "reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama". And for her to get that, her mother must DIE! mwahaha.

Can't Rika just live normally in the new world though? Her mother would probably die first due to aging, then Rika would have the powers back and then redo the world where she was splatted by a truck. She could live another two lives, and there's no need to murder anyone.

Then again, that would be too boring... XD

Bern has a pivotal role in Umineko, so there's no chance that they'll remove her.

Like it was mentioned in this episode, Hanyuu's power can't reach the sinless world so Rika's dead for good if she dies there.

A big theme in this story was how random occurrences can change even important events and relationships that you might hold very dear. They concentrate heavily on Satoko's relationship with Rika in this alternative world but possibly even more interesting is the implication that the Shion of this world isn't particularly (Or possibly not at all) interested in Satoshi. She mainly hangs out with Rena and doesn't go out of her way to spend time or hang out with him whatsoever. It could be that we were just seeing things from Rika's perspective and she wouldn't care to investigate their interpersonal relationships but I think it''s likely the writer was trying to tie it with the previously mentioned theme. It's funny to think about, considering how it defines her entire character in the main series.

Wow... I never noticed that before, it is kinda odd that she doesn't seem especially close to Satoshi now. Maybe it's because they basically grew up together? So their past and feelings towards each other would be different... also, Shion's mental state is A LOT different than it was before... so maybe, that somehow affects the situation as well...

Satoshi treated her kindly at the time and that's why she fell in love with him. In this world the switch never took place and thus she has no reason to develop feelings for him.

In the regular worlds, "Shion" has lost her position as the future head years ago. That happened when they put the tattoo on the original Shion to make her "Mion" when they were kids.

The main trigger is that Satoshi saved "Shion" from the three ruffians, after "Shion" escaped from St.Lucia; the emotional instability comes from being locked away in St.Lucia for a year or two, and as you mentioned, the guilt of pushing the position to "Mion". Meeting him later again in the park and going to shopping with him sealed the whole deal.

It isn't a perfect world...just a sinless one. One where none of the bad things happened. As one might guess, Rika sees it as less than perfect.

Pretty cynical stuff.

Except that 'love' is a rather strong undertone to a lot of the answer arcs. Well, friendship, and then love. The romance isn't furthur explored than it already is because that would deter from the main purpose of the plot, and the story he is trying to tell. At least, that is my opinion on the matter.

What I mean is that he cuts the epilogue short of including things like Satoshi waking up or Keiichi revealing that Shion told him about Mion loving him. Apparently he's said he wanted to leave what happens after to be left to the imagination but since then he's done some post-epilogues (This and the one comic that just ended which I don't know much about.) to the main story which seem to consciously avoid this topic. I can't read the guy's mind though, so this also is just speculation on why he wrote things the way he did. This story in particular however paints the author as being highly cynical of his fellow man, it's not a a huge stretch to extend that to him not believing in romantic love. If everything's to chance, there's no such thing as a soul mate.
