Usually its idiot things like "top honors student suspended for a Revolutionary War project that included a stryofoam replica of a period musket" or "student suspended for nail clippers == weapon". Sometimes its for "think of the children" idiocy like LOTR=witchcraft or D&D=witchcraft. We have school boards composed of witchhunting authoritarians with too much time on their hands, principals who don't seem to have learned a thing in college, and teachers who are stuck in either left or right soundbite-thinking ... its a wonder any students manage to escape.

Personally, I think Ron Paul is nuts, but that just isn't right. They guy is running for president, and while he probably doesn't have much of a chance, that's a deliberate snubbing. Did he run over Drew Griffin's dog or something?

TANGERANG, Indonesia — Irzen Octa, a down-on-his-luck Indonesian businessman, suffered a torment familiar to millions of Americans struggling with debts racked up in better times: He feared losing his home. In the end, he managed to keep the ramshackle two-story house where he and his wife raised their two, now-teenage daughters. Instead, Octa lost his life, pursued by Citibank over a $5,700 debt on his platinum credit card. The 50-year-old businessman, invited to a Citibank office in Jakarta in late March, collapsed in a tiny room set aside by the U.S. bank for questioning of deadbeat debtors. He died shortly afterward — a casualty of a “harsh interrogation,” said Jakarta police spokesman Baharudin Djafar. Citibank, Indonesia’s biggest foreign bank, said its internal investigation found no evidence of physical violence. i am beginning to think, maybe it wasn't good idea to bail these guys out.

Until we as average American people begin to stand up and say we're done with over reliance on credit AS AN INDIVIDUAL SOURCE OF WEALTH, nothing will change. It's easy to blame the government but we won't give up the plastic.

Apparently, more Americans are making their minimum payment on time... but the average American added over $4000 to the average credit card debt this quarter.
Now... we can say that they're all lazy bastards living beyond their means... or just as likely they have NO choice if they don't want to get kicked out of their home because they're unemployed and no one is hiring them. They're buying *food* with their credit cards, for example. Many corporations have recently been caught specifying "no unemployed need apply" in their ads. They only want you if you already have a job. Then there's the job sectors that have just vanished... and guess what - retraining for a new profession costs a lot of money. And of course, you're probably unemployed while you're retraining. So.... good luck getting hired.

Hmm, what? It makes no sense for companies to be looking for people who already have a job. People who're unemployed are readily available, for one thing. I don't know how it works in the US, but here in the UK, you have to give at least a month's notice before leaving, so an employer would have to wait at least that long before they can actually start working for them. Also, it makes more sense if they specified that the candidate needs experience from previous jobs which is relevant. What's funny is how if they hire the candidate, they won't like it if they eventually apply for another job while still under their employ
